For centuries, China’s Yangtze River was a torrent. Now, it’s a mere trickle, according to media reports, which indicate the once roaring river has dried up in the midst of a historic drought and heat wave. “The water would reach street level in previous years,” a 65-year-old resident of Wuhan, China, told Bloomberg News, which said temperatures this summer have exceeded 104 degrees Fahrenheit in some Chinese cities. “This year even the riverbed sand is exposed.” To those who rely on the river for water, energy, and employment, it’s as if Mother Nature suddenly turned the spigot on a hose...

This possibility was first teased 16 months ago, but in Batman the Night #8, out this week, Bruce Wayne is apparently confirmed to be gay, bisexual, or at least bi-curious as a youth. Democrats are once again meddling in a GOP primary — this time in a competitive New Hampshire House district, with the goal of elevating a far-right candidate over a moderate backed by GOP Gov. Chris Sununu. The intervention in the race to take on Democratic Rep. Annie Kuster comes from an unlikely source: Democrats Serve, a new PAC that backs Democratic candidates with public service backgrounds. The group has booked some $94,000 on cable TV to boost Bob Burns, a pro-Trump Republican who is campaigning as the “only pro-life candidate” in the Sept. 13 primary. Snip Burns has raised far...

Insider and several other news organizations have identified 71 members of Congress who've recently failed to properly report their financial trades as mandated by the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act of 2012, also known as the STOCK Act. A key provision of the law mandates that lawmakers publicly - and quickly - disclose any stock trade made by themselves, a spouse, or a dependent child. But many members...

California’s Legislature passed a bill Monday to create a government panel that would set wages for an estimated half-million fast food workers in the state, a first-in-the-U.S. approach to workplace regulation that labor union backers hope will spread nationally. The bill, known as the Fast Act, would establish a panel with members appointed by the governor and legislative leaders composed of workers, union representatives, employers and business advocates. They would set hourly wages of up to $22 for fast food workers starting next year and can increase them annually by the same rate as the consumer-price index, up to a...
