California’s Legislature passed a bill Monday to create a government panel that would set wages for an estimated half-million fast food workers in the state, a first-in-the-U.S. approach to workplace regulation that labor union backers hope will spread nationally.
The bill, known as the Fast Act, would establish a panel with members appointed by the governor and legislative leaders composed of workers, union representatives, employers and business advocates. They would set hourly wages of up to $22 for fast food workers starting next year and can increase them annually by the same rate as the consumer-price index, up to a maximum of 3.5%.

Unions are *why* a burger flipper in Cali can make $22.00/hr. Of course, your burger probably costs no less than $15.00
Oops. Silly me. I meant vegi-burger since they will have outlawed meet too.
“They would set hourly wages of up to $22 for fast food workers starting next year”
Not good enough. They cant survive in california on that. Make it 500 dollars an hour.
There goes the fast food joints..Either leave or go bankrupt...
No more TacoBell, KFC, or McDonalds in California!!!!!
They also going to mandate sufficient customers are to buy enough expensive products so the Jack’s, etc can stay in business?
these clowns are going to make more then I did as a fleet mechanic in 2018 real quick. (23 an hour)
and I had to pay for trade school(2 years)
And Atlas Shrugged.
It was just yesterday they were all clamoring for $15/hr. That didn’t last long.
Sounds semi-fascist, to me.
Why don’t they declare us all serfs, property of the government.
How very Bolshevik of them.
or worm burger
cuz when they outlaw fertilizer even veggies will be scarce
so why just fast food?
why not all businesses?
why just wages?
why not hiring and promotions?
maybe the owner should just go home while the govt runs their business into the ground
It will be easy to make $22/hr, because you’ll be the only person there.
that was harsh of me
the owner should stick around to mop the floors
who wants to pay 22/hr for someone to mop floors?
“so why just fast food?
why not all businesses?
why just wages?
why not hiring and promotions?”
Fast food is the camel’s nose under the tent.
They may get away with it then in a few years declare it a roaring success and start adding industries and jobs to the pile.
And they think businesses are fleeing California now?
They ain’t seen nothing yet.
Oops. Silly me. I meant vegi-burger since they will have outlawed meet too.
Shh, don't give them ideas.
You will see an immediate reaction by the public....if your burger-menu is $17 for just one single person, then business will take a hit. Just another reason to leave the state.
Course, it’ll speed up the process of automation, with 80-percent of the burger-flipper jobs gone by 2030 (my prediction).
