Advocates of ranked-choice voting say it elevates centrist candidates, keeps campaigns positive, and promotes debate of important issues. That isn’t how it’s going in Alaska. The Last Frontier is in the middle of an experiment that has confused voters, popularized fringe candidates and could lead to unrepresentative outcomes… The whole business has sown confusion. Alaskans remain unclear how ranked-choice voting works despite millions spent on education efforts by state agencies and progressive cheerleaders like Alaskans for Better Elections. Official Division of Elections resources instruct voters to “rank as many or as few candidates as you like,” but ballots without second,...

snip FROM THE ARTICLE: Why I Support Reform Prosecutors Justice or safety? It’s a false choice. They reinforce each other. \ By George Soros Americans desperately need a more thoughtful discussion about our response to crime. People have had enough of the demagoguery and divisive partisan attacks that dominate the debate and obscure the issues. Like most of us, I'm concerned about crime. One of government's most important roles is to ensure public safety. I have been involved in efforts to reform the criminal-justice system for the more than 30 years I have been a philanthropist. Yet our system is...

On June 17 Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL) was caught on video shouting at a local diner owner and threatening retaliation for his daring to hang a campaign poster for her potential opponent, Republican Primary candidate Deborah Adeimy. Richard Kline, owner of City Diner in West Palm Beach, Florida, says that he has happily served Frankel for many years as a customer, despite completely disagreeing with her politics. Kline believes Frankel was made aware of the poster by a customer who questioned Kline’s son, who works at the diner, about the poster shortly before Frankel arrived that day. The campaign poster...

“The men were amazed, and said, ‘What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?’” (Matthew 8:27). There are no realities more overwhelming than a glimpse of God’s glory or the sense of His presence. Such occurrences make it impossible not to be utterly dumbfounded before Him. The disciples realized after Christ stilled the storm that He indeed was God standing in their boat with them. Peter displayed the same reaction of awe and terror when he briefly walked on water after his Lord did. A storm surged up and caused Peter to...

Many journalists in Washington, D.C. are taking small doses of psychedelic mushrooms to improve their performance, according to Politico.A 2020 D.C. ballot initiative made enforcement of bans on the purchase and distribution of psychedelic mushrooms the lowest priority of law enforcement, making the substance “basically legal,” according to Politico. The substance is used recreationally in full doses as well as in smaller “microdoses,” which some believe can improve brain function.“Microdosing mushrooms as a kind of performance-enhancing brain boost — already wildly popular among the California tech set — is now fairly common in Washington, especially in media circles,” the Politico...

Inflation has emerged as the top issue for most Americans ahead of the midterm elections. Rising labor costs, energy prices, and interest rates are increasingly adding to inflationary woes. And much to the Biden administration’s chagrin, the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan is the largest driver of inflation. Additionally, Democrats refuse to admit their push for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), especially in energy policy, in both the public and private sectors is also a major problem. As more financial leaders scrutinize so-called sustainable investing, there’s ample evidence suggesting ESG exacerbated the 9.1% increase in the consumer price index. Of...

In the era of peak woke we are supposed to accept any radical departure from long-held custom and tradition as the new normal. Perhaps. But if so, is the improved new code of behavior at least reciprocal? Will the radical Left really wish to live by its own novel normality when it loses power? Have leftists ever read Thucydides on the stasis at Corcyra and his warning that zealots who destroy laws, customs, and traditions for short-term gain, soon rue the day they began making such changes when, in vain, they seek refuge in the very sanctuaries of behavior that...

Is there a single agency in Old Joe Biden’s catastrophic administration that hasn’t been completely corrupted and politicized? Apparently not. Recently, the White House announced that it appointed Camille Stewart Gloster to the post of Deputy National Cyber Director for Technology and Ecosystem Security; she will lead the Office of the National Cyber Director’s “ongoing efforts to strengthen the security and development of our Nation’s cyber ecosystem — across people, processes, and technology.” That’s great, but Camille Stewart Gloster herself has other priorities in mind: she has repeatedly claimed that the real national security we face is “systemic racism.”On August...

The videos, posted online by accounts including 414HypeHouse, show car thieves targeting unlocked Kia and Hyundai vehicles, removing the under-column cowl near the steering wheel and using a USB cord to start the stolen cars. Some videos show the thieves — called "Kia Boys" — riding around in the stolen cars and crashing or dumping them.
