Happy Recession Day, everybody! Over the past several days, we’ve watched with great interest to see just how the media would find a way to downplay our ongoing economic downturn under President Joe Biden. We’ve seen plenty of hackery already, but we new that the real spectacle wouldn’t get underway until the numbers officially came out. Well, the numbers officially came out, and the GDP shrank by 0.9% in the second quarter. That’s a recession, folks. Earlier this week, Erick Erickson made an observation about the media’s treatment of the Biden administration’s shameless attempts to redefine “recession”: We're about to...

The fifth GTA doctor to die in July “radiated positivity” and “lived a vibrant and active life.” But what the world lost in the sudden and tragic death of Dr. Candace Nayman was a woman who had dedicated her life to the health of children. The 27-year-old, who was a resident doctor at McMaster Children Hospital in Hamilton, collapsed while swimming as she competed in a triathlon on Sunday. She subsequently died on Thursday. Friends kept an around-the-clock prayer vigil for the much-loved Nayman who lost her fight and, at her request, had her organs donated to help others. She...

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) had a brief response to comedian Jon Stewart calling him out specifically while criticizing Senate Republicans on Wednesday for blocking a bill to provide healthcare for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits while serving abroad. “That’s not worth responding to,” Toomey said when asked for his reaction. The military burn pits bill, or PACT Act, initially passed the 100-member Senate with the support of 34 Republicans and all 50 Democrats. It would increase spending by more than $300 billion over the next decade and dramatically boost health care services and disability benefits for veterans exposed...

I grew up a Christian all my life. I’m no stranger to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and while I’m no Biblical expert, I know enough to be dangerous.Yet, despite my Christianity, I’ve always lamented how badly Christian media has fallen short. I’ve made it no mystery how much I detest a lot of modern Christian music and movies. For me, it always felt like sub-par writing and acting pardoned by the fact that it was being sold and shipped to a built-in audience that had no other examples to pull from.(READ: Christian Film is Garbage and We Have to...

Pantothenate acid, also known as vitamin B5, stimulated the production of brown fat in both cell cultures and mice, a new study finds. "We identified [pantothenate acid] as an effective [brown fat] activator that can prevent obesity and may represent a promising strategy for the clinical treatment of obesity and related metabolic diseases," the researchers wrote. Unlike the more common white fat, brown fat burns calories to produce heat. Under particular conditions, white fat can be converted to brown fat. Scientists have been investigating the behavior of brown fat and methods of converting white fat in hope of finding treatments...

Walking for exercise at a pace that induced pain or discomfort improved walking ability among people with peripheral artery disease, or PAD, according to new research. The condition occurs when the arteries that transport blood from the heart throughout the body narrow, reducing blood and oxygen flow. It usually affects the legs and feet causing symptoms while walking, such as cramping, weakness, fatigue, aching and pain or discomfort that subside within 10 minutes of rest. At six months, participants whose walking pace induced leg pain or discomfort walked 11 feet per minute faster, and at 12 months, they walked more...

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — The Oklahoma State Board of Education voted to demote Tulsa Public Schools after violating HB 1775, which bans the teaching of critical race theory in Oklahoma. In a 4-2 vote, the board lowered TPS to "accreditation with warning," a more serious penalty than the recommended "accreditation with deficiency." Gov. Stitt expressed concern about the violation of the law in early July. That concern stems from a complaint sent to the Department of Education by a teacher from Memorial High School who had to take some mandatory courses, which she said, "includes statements that specifically shame white...

A country music star shunned so-called “woke” record labels and released a song directly to Donald Trump’s social media app Truth Social and video-sharing site Rumble — catapulting it to No. 1 in the world on the Apple iTunes song chart. John Rich, the Nashville-based musician and one-half of the duo “Big and Rich,” released his latest song, “Progress,” on Friday.
