On the morning of November 29th, 1866, in the Yorkshire village of Middlesmoor, the following letter found its way to the home of one Mary Foster, sent by a local farmer named Simon Fallowfield. Mary declined his offer.

Read by Taron Egerton on Friday 14th July 2017 at Union Chapel, London.

My wife provided me with this link. After listening to this actual letter, it reminded me of two things: Mr. Guppy from Dickens' "Bleak House", and a number of Freepers who frame the value of women in the context of their dexterity with "sammiches".

LOL...reminds me of...

Daisy, Daisy, give me you answer true.
I’m half-crazy all for the love of you.
It won’t be a stylish marriage,
I can’t afford a carriage;
But you’ll look sweet
Upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two.

2. Henry, Henry, here is your answer true;
I’m not crazy over the likes of you.
If you can’t afford a carriage,
Forget about the marriage;
‘Cause I won’t be jammed,
I won’t be crammed
On a bicycle built for two.
