The conflict in Ukraine is driving a modernization of NATO weaponry, honing the alliance’s ability to face off against Russia and adding to the list of unintended consequences from Moscow’s invasion of its smaller neighbor. Former East Bloc NATO members have been arming Ukraine with Soviet-designed equipment similar to Kyiv’s existing gear. That has permitted a military housecleaning of their own arsenals on a scale that would have been unimaginable months ago. In turn, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization will help its eastern members replace those arms with newer ones, greatly improving efficiency.

Virginia “Ginni” Thomas’s lawyer sent a response Tuesday to the January 6 Select House Committee, just over one week after they formally requested her testimony. Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, has become embroiled in the investigation into the January 6 riot, and the committee noted in their formal testimony request that they believe she has “information relevant” to their probe.

The vote is 5-4. Clarence Thomas dissents, joined by Alito, Gorsuch, and Barrett. The is the second and final opinion of the day.

Russia said on Wednesday that restrictions imposed by Norway were blocking the transport of goods to Russian-populated settlements on the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard and called on Oslo to resolve the issue as soon as possible or face consequences. The ministry said that it summoned Norway's Chargé d'Affaires to protest the restrictions, which it said were blocking the transport of food and medical equipment. Svalbard is part of Norway, although Russia has the right to exploit the archipelago's natural resources under a treaty signed in 1920 and maintains a diplomatic presence in the largely Russian- and Ukrainian-populated settlement of Barentsburg.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump rebuffed his own security’s warnings about armed protesters in the Jan. 6 rally crowd and made desperate attempts to join his supporters as they marched to the Capitol, according to dramatic new testimony before the House committee investigating the 2021 insurrection. Cassidy Hutchinson, a little-known former White House aide, described an angry, defiant president who was trying that day to let armed protesters avoid security screenings at a rally that morning to protest his 2020 election defeat and who later grabbed at the steering wheel of the presidential SUV when the Secret Service refused to...

Why Are So Many Young People Dying Suddenly? If the push notifications on my computer are any indication, an alarming trend is unfolding before our eyes: young, seemingly healthy individuals are dropping like flies, dying suddenly. It wasn’t always like this. Sure, the death notifications of high-profile figures would come occasionally, but they were usually for those in their 80s or 90s who had simply come to the end of a long life, or for young individuals who had committed suicide. Now it’s different. The other day, it was Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson. He was 26 and had played three seasons of...

It was January 2007 when Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs walked onto a stage at the MacWorld convention and introduced the world to a new kind of phone. It was called an iPhone, and it became available to the public June 29, 2007. Little did anyone know it would change the way we communicate in general and, in particular, the way we look at our phones. Carnegie Mellon University professor and computer scientist Tom Mitchell said the iPhone was a “game changer” when it first came out. “Even though there had been portable phones, they were still a phone,”...

In the wake of a leaked draft decision from the U.S. Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade, its 1973 ruling that made abortion legal across America, a TikTok user said in a now-viral video that "hookup culture" would be destroyed if abortion is no longer federally protected. What are the details? "In case you're a man who doesn't care about Roe v. Wade, just know that if abortion gets banned, hookup culture will be absolutely decimated," Bridget Gwyn wrote in text accompanying her Monday night TikTok video, according to the Daily Dot. "Hookup culture" is a synonym...

I am having a discussion with my hard leftist cousins regarding Trump and Epstein - among many other things they believe with out evidence. I did a serach for images of Clinton and Obama with Epstein, and notice that using 'Clinton and Epstein' returns a couple that match the request, and Obama and Epstein' return none. However, both searchs return mostly the same results: pictures of Trump with Epstein. Crazy huh? /s

One reason the genuine right considers National Review a joke is that the magazine long ago lost the ability to distinguish between friends and enemies. NR spills considerable ink cozying up to the left and trying to show that they are not like those unacceptable bad conservatives but are instead harmless and reliable good guys. It attacks and backstabs those who ostensibly are, or should be, its friends and sucks up to its supposed enemies. Or perhaps NR is simply lying to its readers—and donors—and is playing Schmittian politics after all, but having switched sides? I couldn’t say, but that...

Secret Service Lead And Presidential Driver Both Prepared to Testify Under Oath That Trump 'Steering Wheel Lunge' Never Happened, No 'Assault' Took Place Former Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson's "bombshell" testimony to the Jan 6 Committee was undermined within hours on Tuesday after NBC News reported that the Secret Service's lead agent and the presidential driver are both prepared to testify under oath that neither were assaulted and Trump never lunged for the steering wheel. "A source close to the Secret Service tells me both Bobby Engel, the lead agent, and the presidential limousine/SUV driver are prepared to testify under...

The United States Mail steamship Marion, Lieut. J.D. PHILLIPS, United States Navy, commanding, arrived at this port yesterday morning, from New-Orleans on June 21, with merchandise and passengers to SPOFFORD, TILESTON & CO. Our exchanges by this arrival contain very little intelligence of interest. Four companies of the Twelfth Maine Regiment, under Col. KIMBALL, had broken up a camp of 1,800 marauders at Manchac, who were holding intrenchments mounted with heavy guns. On the approach of the national troops, the whole force fled, leaving behind its camp equipage, guns, &c. The former was destroyed and the latter spiked. On June...

The Baz Luhrmann Elvis movie is as good as it is frustrating. The movie might serve as a good introduction for those who don’t know much about Elvis (which, sadly, is becoming most people). I say it might because it is more than likely that viewers will come away knowing more about Col. Tom Parker, Elvis’ manager, than Elvis himself. And it is this focus on Tom Parker that makes the movie so incredibly frustrating. Some may argue that this focus allows viewers to get an overview of Elvis’ life without being bogged down in the details. What it does,...
