Most Americans believe children should not be able to choose their own “preferred pronoun” that does not align with their biological sex, according to new polling. A late May Harvard-Harris poll found that 59 percent of Americans believe children should be called the pronoun that aligns with their biological sex, and 60 percent believe preferred pronouns are an “excessive measure that does more to confuse kids about their sex.” Conversely, 41 percent of Americans believe “kids should be able to pick their pronouns” and 40 percent believe calling children by those pronouns “prevents discrimination.” The only three demographic groups that...

President Joe Biden officially announced a new $700 million security package for the Ukraine on Wednesday amid Russian warnings he was 'adding fuel to the fire' by including medium-range rocket systems. 'This new package will arm them with new capabilities and advanced weaponry, including HIMARS with battlefield munitions, to defend their territory from Russian advances,' Biden said in a statement. The lateset round of military aid comes as the Pentagon snapped back at the flak from the Kremlin, saying Russia didn't get to vote on U.S. assistance and describing Moscow's invasion as 'off plan.' Besides the missile system, the assistance...

I hate to hand it to the French, but the best beach/hiking/picnic sandwich is jambon-beurre (ham-butter). It’s just baguette, butter, and ham, and it is perfect. Eating food outside amongst the sand and sea (or trees and squirrels) is a decidedly summery way to dine. Sandwiches were made for such meals—after all, they were designed to be eaten while the eater is doing something else. That something else was originally gambling, but outdoorspeople can take advantage of the sandwich’s portability while hiking through a forest, sitting in some grass, or lounging on the beach. All sandwiches can be enjoyed this...

In 2010, gun-control activists thought they were on the verge of a major victory in Albany. Led by then-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and backed by his considerable fortune, activists were pushing a bill requiring new handguns be equipped with microstamping -- technology allowing a unique code to be etched into each bullet casing as it's fired. The marked casing could then be used to determine the make, model and serial number of the weapon from whence it came. The technology has been billed as an aid to law enforcement seeking to identify a gun used by an assailant....

The Biden administration is requiring schools to comply with its LGBT policies or lose billions in federal funding for school lunches. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service announced in May it will prevent low-income students from participating in its National School Lunch Program if their public school does not adopt the administration's interpretation of Title IX, which holds that the federal civil rights law's provision against discrimination based on sex includes designations of sexual orientation and gender identity. The move was originally reported by The Center Square. Critics of the administration's decision said it could unnecessarily harm...

Bad night at The Whiskey! Or a bad day for the US economy. First, ADP US jobs added flopped (only 128.2k jobs added, the lowest reading under Biden and the massive Federal Reserve stimulus). Much lower than the expected 300k. Second, nonfarrm labor productivity fell in Q1 -7.3%. Third, unit labor costs soared to +12.6%. M2 Money stock YoY is falling, but remains at 8% YoY. Here is the summary table for today. And then we have the Atlanta Fed GDPNow, real-time GDP tracker for Q2 at 1.3%. As M2 Money growth slows, US GDP is slowing as well. Is...

President Joe Biden’s policies have helped drive the nation’s foreign-born population to 47 million as of April, the largest in United States history, new analysis reveals. From February 2021 to April, Biden’s policies have helped add two million foreign-born residents to the U.S. population. The data suggests that nearly 145,000 foreign-born residents are being added to the nation’s already historically-high population every month. Today, more than 331 million residents live in the U.S., the highest in U.S. history. Put another way, the nation’s foreign-born population has quintupled since 1970, tripled since 1980, doubled since 1990, and grown 50 percent since...

Beijing (AFP) – China aims to double its wind and solar capacity by 2025, according to a new road map that also allows for more coal-fired power plants to bolster energy security. The world's biggest polluter earlier estimated it needs to double wind and solar use by 2030 to deliver on its pledges under the Paris climate accord. The latest plan -- if implemented -- means China might reach that goal earlier. But Beijing has also ramped up reliance on coal-fired power plants in recent months to support its ailing economy as the Ukraine war pushes up global energy prices....

President Biden’s Department of Energy marked the first day of “pride month” by calling for pride “this month,” “next month” and “always” as gas prices continue to skyrocket, reaching another record high Wednesday. Yhe social media post was not immediately well-received. “So comforting to know that you’ve invested your time and effort into this nonsense when the Secretary of Energy doesn’t even know how much oil the US consumes daily and Americans are paying the highest prices ever for fuel,” one user wrote. “Now if only we could celebrate any of you doing your job well,” another added. The tweet...

While natural gas has risen to supplant coal as the United State’s largest energy source for electricity, total energy has not increased in 10 years. Due to economic conditions and government regulations, coal plants have been shuttered at a rapid rate since 2010. In the period 1993 to 2009, retirements averaged .36 GW per year and totaled 6.2 GW. In 2020 and 2021 retirements averaged 7.9 GW per year and 95.2 GW in total. Over the next five years, planned retirements will total over 24 GW. All this has been supplanted in part by natural gas. Some facilities converted to...

In its evolutionary fight for survival, the COVID virus is switching strategies: It’s becoming a master at slipping past our immune systems. And that, say experts, is largely why we’re dealing with an unexpected surge. Powered by two mutations, new lineages of the omicron variant — called BA.2 and its more recent descendants BA.2.12.1, BA.4 and BA.5 — are increasing rates of vaccine breakthrough and reinfection, according to an analysis published Saturday by Trevor Bedford, a virologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, who studies the evolution of viruses.

Actor Owen Wilson had $4,000 worth of tires and rims stolen from his Tesla that was parked outside his Santa Monica mansion as crime continues to soar in the area. The Zoolander star reportedly told police that the theft happened overnight and that he discovered the missing tires the next morning. Crime is surging in Los Angeles, so much so that it has also leaked into nearby communities such as Santa Monica, Brentwood, Marina Del Rey, Pacific Palisades, and other tony areas. In fact, despite that Santa Monica is usually ranked as one of California’s safest cities, residents of the...
