Image from NASA's Curiosity rover showing what looks like a doorway on Mars. The Curiosity rover took a photo of the odd structure on May 7, 2022, as it climbed Mount Sharp on Mars.Image: NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS NASA’s Curiosity rover took a photo of a Lovecraftian feature on the surface of Mars last week: a seemingly rectangular and shadowy opening in the planet’s exposed rock that looks as if it leads into the Martian underground. The image was captured on May 7 by the Curiosity rover’s Mastcam while it ascended Mount Sharp. While the grainy black-and-white image may have conspiracy theorists over...

After some extensive research into all the candidates that are running for statewide offices, and for my district in Idaho, these are the candidates I am voting for tomorrow. If you live in other districts, you will have to do a little extra research to see which candidate is best. In future primaries I may do more local districts, but for now this took long enough. Governor ---------------- Janet McGeachin US Senator -------------- Scott Trotter US House ---------------- Russ Fulcher Lieutenant Governor ------ Priscilla Giddings Attorney Generaal -------- Raul Labrador Secretary of State ------- Dorothy Moon Treasurer ---------------- Julie Ellsworth...

The former head of the Federal Reserve says the US is heading toward a period of high inflation and low economic growth as the head of Goldman Sachs and other global banks warn that a recession is coming. Ben Bernake, who led the Fed through the 2008 financial crisis, says 'stagflation' may be on the horizon. The term, coined in the 1960s, refers to low economic growth combined with high unemployment and high prices.

Low-protein diets appear to have incredible benefits for the health and lifespans of rodents, fruit flies, and yeast. A new study in mice has now identified a single hormone that is essential for these curious anti-aging effects. The hormone is called fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), and it is secreted by the liver. In recent years, studies have shown that FGF21 responds to protein restriction in male mice, improving energy expenditure and glucose tolerance while reducing body weight. Now, the same team of researchers has found FGF21 is required for the anti-aging effects, too. "Indeed, mice that are FGF21 deficient...

A new law in Oregon known as the “postmark rule” says that any ballot postmarked by Election Day is considered on time even if it arrives at elections offices up to 7 days after the election. Voters may be able to put their ballots in the mail as late as Election Day if their mail is collected by USPS and postmarked that day. The new law could mean that very close contests will not be decided on election night. Prior to this ballots had to be received by 8:00 on election night, regardless of when they were mailed.

New York City's mayor Eric Adams was seen wearing a face mask Monday after the city quietly updated its Covid guidance to recommend the coverings in all indoor public places. The mayor wore the grey mask as he shook hands with students at the Economic Development Summit in the City College of New York's Great Hall. He later removed it to answer questions from the press, where he said the city was not yet at the point of mandating the coverings, before putting it back on to leave the room.

The Case Against the CDC as We Know ItThe Centers for Disease Control (CDC) was founded in 1946 as a backwater quasi-governmental agency with a negligible budget and a handful of employees tasked with a simple mission: “prevent malaria from spreading across the nation.”Seventy-five years later it has metastasized into a multi-billion dollar bureaucratic behemoth that oversees and controls virtually all aspects of public health programs, policies, and practices across the United States. The CDC is the primary US national public health agency tasked with “protecting America from health, safety and security threats” and advertises that it will “increase the...

Journalist and videographer Drew Hernandez captured a number of rather disturbing sights and sounds at Planned Parenthood's "Bans Off Our Bodies" Day of Action in Phoenix over the weekend — the kind of stuff that one commenter called "sick and disgusting" and that local news outlets seem to have left off their broadcasts. 'Fetus = Good Snack' First up is an image of one demonstrator holding a sign that reads "Fetus = Good Snack," which Hernandez posted to his Twitter page Saturday:

We don’t wanna freak you out, but West Virginian scientists may have found a life form more than 800 million years old. In a new paper published in the journal Geology, West Virginia University geologists say that some of the microorganisms found inside the Browne Formation, an 830 million-year-old rock found in the Australian desert, may still be alive — and if they are, it could help us find life on Mars, to boot. Taking a piece of the Browne Formation, which includes halite salt crystals, the WVU researchers found organic liquids and solids using non-invasive optical techniques. Within those...

A look at streaming services catering to families and conservatives reveals some surprisingly good titles. On Wednesday, Disney announced it added only 1.5 million domestic subscribers this spring to its flagship streaming service, with anticipated higher costs in the year ahead. The company’s market value quickly dipped to a two-year low. Such weak results seem to confirm the power of a movement among conservative parents to “cancel Disney” after surreptitiously recorded remarks by Disney creative executives about their “not-so-secret gay agenda” spread online. Relaying what he has heard from Christian families about those comments, Erick Goss, head of faith-based streamer Minno,...

At least 14 people were killed and more than a dozen others injured when a bus carrying domestic tourists crashed into an advertising sign in Indonesia's East Java province early on Monday, police said. The bus -- which was carrying 31 passengers, the driver and a crew member -- hit the pole and then rolled over on a toll road connecting the town of Mojokerto to the country's second city, Surabaya. The victims were from Benowo, a village near Surabaya, and were returning home after a long weekend at popular holiday destination Dieng Plateau, about 400 kilometers away in Central...

The freedom of speech is under attack everywhere, and it’s not clear which side Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Trump-endorsed candidate for a Senate seat from Pennsylvania, is on. We have the Disinformation Governance Board, the Jan. 6 Committee, ongoing claims that Trump supporters are all “white supremacists” (and “white supremacists” are the nation’s biggest terror threat), and rampaging social media censorship. In that environment, it’s crucial for all candidates, especially America-First candidates, to affirm their support for free speech. Instead, Oz has just called for his primary opponent to be barred from the race, not for any criminal activity or,...
