No one should be surprised that I shut down a college classroom with debate. I’ve been doing this since high school. This particular moment happened while I was finally completing my college degree at Cal State Northridge at the age of thirty. It was within a generic business class. Why the professor decided to bring up George Bush’s push to privatize a portion of Social Security I have no idea. But this was a matter I was intimately familiar with. My ex-brother-law had happened to be the five-year financial advisor to Pinochet in Chile. What was interesting was less about...

he explained his seven-year journey from having a 1.2 GPA in college to now working for one of the world’s biggest tech companies. he was a student at California Polytechnic State University and starting to watch YouTube videos from new Google employees, sharing how they’d gotten their jobs in just a few months. The TikToker explains that he received poor grades in many classes during his freshman year. Those failures, though, ended up being a blessing in disguise, thanks to his school’s “exclude all” policy. “The cool thing here is that getting a D or an F is arguably better...

Kaden was sent to live with the Barrys in Mineral Point by her parents, who live in North Carolina, due to behavioral problems she was having at home. The Barrys say Kaden had been...

My day started as it usually does, way too early in the morning. I hopped on the scale to monitor my body weight, then jumped on the computer to see what was happening on this big blue marble.I should have stayed in bed.It started, as all too many real-life horror stories do, on Twitter. That’s where I saw this:That’s right, she wants “verified” and “trustworthy” people to be able to go and essentially edit what other people tweet as a way to provide “context.”In other words, she wants people to be able to change whatever they want on Twitter, to...

The Bible In Paintings 2 ENCOURAGEMENT FOR APPRECIATING AND APPLYING GOD'S MESSAGE 1st SAMUEL CHAPTER 16 Now the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him. Saul’s attendants said to him, “Let our lord command his servants here to search for someone who can play the harp. He will play when the evil spirit from God comes upon you, and you will feel better.” So Saul said to his attendants, “Find someone who plays well and bring him to me.” One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son...

These days it seems that Saul Alinsky has taken over the Democrat Party. This is no longer the party of JFK---not even close. JFK said in his Inaugural Address, “the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.” There is no God, says Saul Alinsky (1909-1972), the Marxist community organizer par excellence from Chicago. He perfected many of the “by any means necessary” tactics the left is using today---tactics on full display these days in the wake of challenges to Roe v. Wade. Alinsky deeply influenced some key leaders of the...

Finland's leaders on Thursday said the country would apply to join NATO "without delay." "Finland must apply for NATO membership without delay," President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin said in a joint statement. "We hope that the national steps still needed to make this decision will be taken rapidly within the next few days." Leaders in both Sweden and Finland had been expected to announce their positions on joining NATO this week, as the war in Ukraine continues to have unintended consequences for Russia by potentially pushing two more of its neighbors to the transatlantic alliance. Finland’s decision...

In 1974, when the inflation rate was 11.04 percent, President Gerald Ford came up with a slogan: "Whip Inflation Now." WIN buttons were manufactured by the millions and people were asked to wear them to demonstrate grassroots solidarity to combat the economic scourge. The campaign was later described by Martin Crutsinger in an Associated Press story titled "Ford's WIN buttons remembered" as "one of the biggest government public relations blunders ever." Today the inflation rate is 8.5 percent, up from 7.9 percent in February and the largest year-over-year rise since 1982. The biggest difference, though, is in the price of...

The Kremlin on Thursday said Finland’s push to join NATO is a direct threat to Russia as well as the stability of the European continent and vowed to respond accordingly. "Of course, all this will become elements for a special analysis and development of the necessary measures in order to balance the situation and ensure our security," he added. As Russia’s invasion chokes off Ukrainian wheat exports, pushing up bread and noodle prices, the global harvest faces an added test: extreme weather. Droughts, flooding and heatwaves threaten output from the U.S. to France and India, compounding shrinking production in Ukraine. Just about every major producing region is facing one threat or another. The one notable exception is Russia, which is shaping up for a bumper crop and stands to benefit from the rising prices and limited supply elsewhere. Wheat is hardy and its vast geographical spread typically means shortages in one place can be filled from elsewhere. But the...

North Korea raised coronavirus prevention measures Thursday as leader Kim Jong Un acknowledged for the first time that COVID-19 was spreading in the totalitarian nation. An unspecified number of Pyongyang residents tested positive for the omicron variant, leading to a nationwide lockdown, according to the country’s state news agency. Until Thursday, North Korea had said it was virus-free since the start of the pandemic more than two years ago, a claim that was dismissed as propaganda by most outside experts. The North shares an 880-mile border with China, the virus’ country of origin.

Novomykolaivka (Ukraine) (AFP) – The pudgy Ukrainian policeman taking pasta and bread to villagers trapped under bombs on the eastern front sometimes feels like he is entering enemy territory. Vladyslav Kopatskiy pulls the groceries from the back of his car and casts a quick glance at the horizon for signs of smoke from incoming Russian shells. He then enters homes where his humanitarian mission is often greeted with misgivings -- or worse. Many residents of this frontline village of Novomykolaivka and other areas of Ukraine's war-torn east are believed to back the Russians. And others who were brought up with...
