Charles Murray just can’t help himself; he’s been a social scientist and prolific author for almost 40 years, writing books on the American experience and societal issues. Now he is back in the mix with a book, Facing Reality: Two Truths About Race in America (Encounter Books 2021), that follows up on the book he wrote with Richard Hernnstein, The Bell Curve (1994). That magnificent work blew the top off of racial debates in America by its in-depth analysis of racial cognitive ability (IQ) differences and socio-economic mobility of Americans and factors that are associated with success in life. IQThe...

ALBANY - One man's scandal catapulted New York Gov. Kathy Hochul into office. Will alleged misconduct by another man hurt her chances of holding on to the job? Hochul's previously smooth path to a Democratic primary win hit a major bump this week when her lieutenant governor, Brian Benjamin, resigned following his arrest in a federal corruption investigation. One of Hochul's first big decisions as governor was to appoint Benjamin, then a state senator, after she took over from Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned last summer rather than face impeachment over sexual harassment allegations, which he has denied. Her leading...

A gay Democratic lawmaker in Missouri challenged a Republican representative over their state's transgender athlete bill. Ian Mackey, 35, slammed Chuck Basye, 63, for supporting the Save Women's Sports bill - a transgender athlete bill that would remove trans-female athletes from women's sports. **SNIP** Mackey used Basye's family history to make a point that he, personally, used to fear 'nice people' like Basye, 'who took me to ball games, who told me how smart I was, and then went to ballot voted for crap like this.' 'Gentlemen, I'm not afraid of you anymore,' he said on Thursday night. 'I couldn't...

In December, entirely without fanfare, Britain's National Police Chief's Council issued new guidelines for strip-searching female suspects: men can do it. The only requirement for the men is that they have "transitioned" to "be" women. We know about this new rule only because Cathy Larkman, a retired police superintendent, ferreted out the information. It is another step in the complete breakdown of civilization in the English-speaking world (because we're heading that way as well, here, in America).

The governor has been fixated on out-of-state happenings in recent weeks. Prior to departing California for Mexico, his final three tweets were all about Republican-led states. On Monday, while the governor was away, the New York Times published an article titled "A Conversation with Gov. Gavin Newsom of California" in which Newsom mostly discussed red-state legislation on abortion and LGBT rights, with only a passing mention of California-specific issues such as homelessness and housing costs (the interview with the governor was conducted prior to his vacation). It's painfully obvious Newsom wants to run for president one day. 2028 seems like...

Authorities in Russia's Bryansk region bordering Ukraine have accused Kyiv of shelling the Russian town of Klimovo and allegedly causing casualties, while the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (RNBO) rejected the accusations, calling them "an attempt to ignite anti-Ukraine hysteria in Russia." The Bryansk region's governor, Aleksandr Bogomaz, said on April 14 that two buildings were damaged in the attack, which he said was conducted by the armed forces of Ukraine. Medical personnel at Klimovo's central hospital told the Russian news agency TASS that seven people, including a pregnant woman and a child, were wounded. Russia's Investigative Committee...

When California voters receive their ballots for the June 7 statewide primary election, they will see seven candidates listed for the office of California secretary of state, which is primarily responsible for administering the state's elections. Two are openly running on "Stop the Steal" platforms and spreading debunked conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election. A third retweeted a Twitter thread giving credence to one of disgraced Trump lawyer Sidney Powell's failed "Kraken" lawsuits, but now disavows 2020 election denialism. Two other candidates have minimal experience in politics and have bare-bones campaign infrastructure. A sixth candidate is a Green Party...

Democrats would have made some marginal gains under Evers’ plan, but Republicans were projected to maintain their majorities in the Assembly and Senate, according to an analysis from the governor’s office. Evers’ map created seven majority-Black state Assembly districts in Milwaukee, up from the current six. The map from the Republican-controlled Legislature had just five. The Wisconsin Supreme Court had adopted Evers' map on March 3, but the U.S. Supreme Court overturned it on March 23. The high court ruled that Evers' map failed to consider whether a “race-neutral alternative that did not add a seventh majority-black district would deny...

Evacuation orders for close to 5,000 people are still in place as firefighters battle a deadly blaze in New Mexico Douglas Siddens’ mother was among those who made it out with just the clothes on her back when a deadly, wind-fueled wildfire ripped through a mountain community in southern New Mexico. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday repealed his traffic-clogging immigration order that backed up commercial trucks at the U.S.-Mexico border, after a week of intensifying backlash and fears of deepening economic losses. The Republican governor dropped his new rules that had required all commercial trucks from Mexico to undergo extra inspections to curb the flow of migrants and drugs and ratcheted up a fight with the Biden administration over immigration policy. Some truckers reported waiting more than 30 hours to cross. Others blocked one of the world’s busiest trade bridges in protest. Abbott, who is up for reelection in November...

Analysis of radar satellite imagery has revealed the location of the Moskva soon after she was reportedly hit by 2 missiles. The Russian Navy cruiser was the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet and is a symbolic as well as naval loss for Russia. The Russian cruiser Moskva will go down in history. The sinking will be studied and written about, both as a single event and, likely, a key moment in the War. The fog of war is still obscuring the event, and information operations are clouding it further. But we can look again at the open source intelligence...
