Charles Murray just can’t help himself; he’s been a social scientist and prolific author for almost 40 years, writing books on the American experience and societal issues. Now he is back in the mix with a book, Facing Reality: Two Truths About Race in America (Encounter Books 2021), that follows up on the book he wrote with Richard Hernnstein, The Bell Curve (1994). That magnificent work blew the top off of racial debates in America by its in-depth analysis of racial cognitive ability (IQ) differences and socio-economic mobility of Americans and factors that are associated with success in life.

The 79-year-old scholar and warrior at the American Enterprise Institute is back at it, trying to substitute facts and analysis for the sloppy thinking and emotions that pervade academia and politics in America. While the chattering class and media focus on inequities and claims of social injustice, Dr. Murray (PhD MIT) points out that although there is certainly racism in every society and in America, the reality is that the inequities of socio economic status are more the result of cognitive ability and criminal activity.
The majority of the relatively short but powerful and scholarly book, Facing Reality, is focused on data and evidence. Murray repeatedly reminds us that all social science research must always be careful to consider contributing factors.
Murray disputes the fashionable assumptions that racial discrimination creates social inequities. The reality, says Murray, is that racial inequalities in America between European- and African-heritage people in health, wealth, position, status, income can be traced to a significant disparity in African Americans’ cognitive ability and criminal behavior. The inequalities are also present to a lesser degree for Latin-heritage people.

I do not believe Asian heritage allows one to have a higher IQ. It so, then China and all other Asian countries would be much more advanced than the US or Europe. We would also have had a majority of patents originated by Asian countries.
It is the CULTURES, not the race, of people, that determines overall IQ.
This “scientist” has a bizarre basis of understanding.

When I read his book_Real Education_it changed me as a teacher. As I hit retirement, I wonder if our educational system will ever change.
The field of education is going to have to change, because as it is now, being a teacher is such a miserable experience, even liberals don’t want to do it anymore. I retired in 2020 and still feel like an escaped hostage.
How do you like knowing China and Vietnam populations are inherently smarter than any non-Asian dominant racial makeups?
Do you see the result of this superiority evidenced around the world?

There will always be teachers because as decent American jobs are sent overseas Americans will need some type of stable employment; here in NJ the public school teacher caste is upper middle class - for 180 partial work days per year. It seems teachers, cops, and paid firemen are the only people having more than one or two children (due to “employment for life”), while many in the private sector have 0 (while subsidizing the former).
The left will never allow “personal responsibility” to enter the discussion; it is far easier to blame “The Man” than to accept responsibility.
The popularity of Black Lies Matter and “critical race theory” among our unassimilated permanent underclass is for this very reason, and it has dangerous results; people who believe they can never overcome an imagined obstacle such as “institutional racism” see no reason to try (despite others in their group trying and succeeding).

Bullshit. Pure unadulterated bullshit. There is no functional racism anywhere in America. Why these jackasses who write these articles purporting to get to the “truth “ constantly make this claim I don’t know. I guess it’s just a jackass thing.
Europe enjoys a higher standard of living because it developed under Christianity, particularly strains where free will was a tenet of faith. China has never had that. And China has for 4000 years been ruled by tyrannies, never by regimes that acknowledged the will of the people. So while Asians may be intrinsically more intelligent, their cultures were and continue to be deficient in wisdom.
