Russia Accuses Ukraine Of Shelling Its Bryansk Region, Kyiv Rejects Claim

Authorities in Russia's Bryansk region bordering Ukraine have accused Kyiv of shelling the Russian town of Klimovo and allegedly causing casualties, while the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (RNBO) rejected the accusations, calling them "an attempt to ignite anti-Ukraine hysteria in Russia."

The Bryansk region's governor, Aleksandr Bogomaz, said on April 14 that two buildings were damaged in the attack, which he said was conducted by the armed forces of Ukraine.

Medical personnel at Klimovo's central hospital told the Russian news agency TASS that seven people, including a pregnant woman and a child, were wounded.

Russia's Investigative Committee said the attack was conducted by two Ukrainian military helicopters, adding that it has launched a criminal case into the attack.

A video purportedly taken in Klimovo after the attack circulated on the Internet showing a burning house.

Authorities in another Russian region, Belgorod, said on April 14 that Ukrainian armed forces shelled the Russian village of Spodorashino. No casualties were reported.

Also on April 14, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said Ukrainian armed forces opened fire at the Novyye Yurovichi border checkpoint in the Bryansk region. No casualties were reported there either.

Meanwhile, in its April 14 statement, the RNBO dscribed the Russian claims as the "implementation of plans to organize terrorist acts" by Russia on Russian territory "to incite anti-Ukraine hysteria in the Russian Federation."

The RNBO statement said that its Center for Countermeasures against Disinformation had previously warned about the "enemy's plans to organize a series of terrorist acts in Russia's territories close to the border to consolidate Russians against Ukrainians."

The RNBO's statement added that, a day earlier, authorities in Kursk, another Russian region bordering Ukraine, also claimed that Ukrainian forces attacked a border guard unit in Russia's Korenev district.

On April 13, the Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukraine of shelling Russian territories, warning that, if the attacks continue, Moscow will have to strike Ukraine's "decision-making centers," including Kyiv.

Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine on February 24. After weeks of resistance by Ukrainian armed forces, Russia withdrew its forces from Ukraine’s northern territories bordering with Bryansk and other regions of Russia.

Several points here -

— As a lover and seeker of truth and non-revisionist history, and as one who has spent most of a decade in Russia, as well as having spent significant time in Ukraine, I have many friends and contacts in both.

Over the past month, I have had Christian conservative Russian* and American friends on the ground across UA, and they have witnessed large scale civilian targeting and death of UA civilians by Russian forces.

Some of these have themselves also come under fire in multiple locations, trying to evacuate people and deliver water and food. Some of those (including Russian nationals), who were trying to help, were hunted and killed by Russian soldiers, as well as Russian backed mercenaries.

About a month ago, I put out an urgent prayer request from a Christian/Evangelical Russian evacuation team, which had three bus loads of mostly women and children, which were blocked, and several of them shot. It was the last transmission I had received from them. In this case, it was Russian forces killing Russian aid workers and Ukrainian civilians.

In these cases, this was Russian killing well marked Russian aid workers, and not merely Russian fighters killing Ukrainians Army/Guard.

Another American missionary team I have known since 1993 in Moscow, had been blocked at gun point by Russian soldiers further South, and that was the last transmission I had from them about a month ago. They had a bus of women, children, and elderly.

— There is no “Nazi” AZOV Bde as many on FR are parroting. As a matter of record, for this fight, (right or wrong, and while hated, and with pre-known Putin propaganda value), realizing they were on the precipice of another (historically the 6th RU related invasion) full scale invasion, UA “stood up several new Brigades. UA took roughly 2100 UA Guard and ordered the integration of the infamous 350-400 Azov NAZI BN.

You can argue it was wrong to integrate the “Azov BN” into a new “stood-up” Bde, but you cannot argue this is a neo-Nazi Bde. To borrow a medical term, to do so is not “clinical” (factual), and is an emotionally driven and false mis-characterization of the roughly 2100 hundred UA Army Guard regulars comprising 4/5’s of this Bde.

Additionally, many on Freerepublic continue to regurgitate patently false information as to how Eastern UA was truly orchestrated by Russia, and the available related detail. As well, the same strategies have been utilized by KGB/FSB and GRU in many countries, past and present.

— The false narrative spawns The false narrative as to what is actually well understood as UNKNOWN casualty counts from Eastern Ukraine, which are truly divided, as Russia and Russian backed forces have also killed thousands of actual Ukrainian’s, and there has been a dynamic displacement of well over 1.5 Million Eastern Ukrainian people, often having their small farms and homes stripped away. This has happened both from within Russian controlled areas, and along the slowly Westward pressing “Line of Contact”.

The actual numbers from both sides of the conflict are deliberately non-published, but are SIGNIFICANTLY DIVIDED — PERIOD.

Information from both, but predominantly Russia has been, and is kept unpublished, as it would reveal much more direct effort and long term strategy from Moscow, to take Eastern Ukraine and more.

The best info available includes significant efforts from Russian associated NGO’s, and paints worse picture than most are aware.

Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers

“There is no information on the number of deaths”

Secretary of the Union of Committees of Soldiers’ Mothers, Valentina Melnikova, noted that during the war in Chechnya relatives of Russian soldiers massively appealed to human rights activists.

However, in the situation with the aggression against Ukraine they do not appeal to them.

The reason for this can be found in the actions of the Russian authorities.

They are using the stick and the carrot method.

CASUALTY COUNT (MILITARY AND CIVILIAN) IS DIVIDED —

Both non-revisionist history, as well as Putins speeches (with have included graphics) shows Russia has been seeking to destabilize in order to ultimately retake Ukraine, as part of “Novorossiya”.

My Russian isn’t the best, but I have listened to three speeches where Putin does reveal the objective. The first time I saw this language and mapping was from 1997, (while Putin was Yeltsin’s Kremlin handler) from a speech near Arbatskaya.
