Our second President, John Adams, attended Harvard, the oldest college in America, already over a hundred years old when he attended. His successor in the White House, Thomas Jefferson, attended William and Mary… and his successor, James Madison, attended the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton). Most of our earlier presidents, those who led the Continental Congress and its successor body, the Confederation Congress, were similarly well-educated men. For example, John Jay went to King’s College (now Columbia); Thomas Mifflin attended the College of Philadelphia. The various colleges of both the United States and Great Britain were well...

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A team of University of Arkansas physicists has successfully developed a circuit capable of capturing graphene's thermal motion and converting it into an electrical current. “An energy-harvesting circuit based on graphene could be incorporated into a chip to provide clean, limitless, low-voltage power for small devices or sensors,” said Paul Thibado, professor of physics and lead researcher in the discovery. The findings, titled "Fluctuation-induced current from freestanding graphene," and published in the journal Physical Review E, are proof of a theory the physicists developed at the U of A three years ago that freestanding graphene — a single...

“‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted’” (Matthew 5:4). Two crucial determinants will tell you if you are mourning over sin as Jesus commands. First, you will have true sensitivity to and sorrow for your sins. Your primary concern will be how your sin detracts from God’s glory, not how its exposure might embarrass you or hurt your reputation. The mock piety of hypocrites demonstrates no sensitivity to sin, only to their personal prestige and pride (cf. Matt. 6:1–18). Likewise, the mock gratitude of those like the Pharisees who think they are better than others (cf. Luke...

Skeptics love to come into our lives and say things like “Hey, I love your vision and passion; they’re great. But why risk it? Some people aren’t going to like it. You’ll probably get some negative feedback. You might make some people outright angry. If you offend somebody, why do what you’re called to do by God?” Why give half your money away to the poor, if your family says, “That’s a stupid thing to do”? Why go ahead and keep doing what God’s called you to do when you might provoke the wrath of the skeptics around you? Why?...

Joy Behar told her co-hosts Monday on ABC’s “The View” that Presidents’ Day should not honor “losers” like former presidents Donald Trump and Richard Nixon. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, “Today is Presidents’ Day, but not everybody is on board with it. There’s an op-ed calling to take it off the calendar, claiming that most people aren’t even sure what they’re celebrating. It used to honor Presidents Washington and Lincoln, but it expanded to all presidents depending on what state you’re in.”

...The Chinese SJ-21 satellite was seen on January 22 changing its usual place in the sky to approach decommissioned satellite Compass-G2. A few days later, SJ-21 attached to G2, altering its orbit.Chinese officials haven't yet confirmed that the apparent space tug occurred.Over the course of the next few days, the spacecraft couple started dancing westward, ExoAnalytic's video footage showed. By January 26, the two satellites separated, and G2 was kicked into oblivion. The Compass-G2, or BeiDou-2 G2, is a spacecraft from China's BeiDou-2 Navigation Satellite System that failed shortly after launching in 2009. For more than 10 years, the metal carcass...

Krystal Guerra’s Miami apartment has a tiny kitchen, cracked tiles, warped cabinets, no dishwasher and hardly any storage space. But Guerra was fine with the apartment’s shortcomings. It was all part of being a 32-year-old graduate student in South Florida, she reasoned, and she was happy to live there for a few more years as she finished her marketing degree. That was until a new owner bought the property and told her he was raising the rent from $1,550 to $1,950, a 26% increase that Guerra said meant her rent would account for the majority of her take-home pay from...

Last week, I was visiting with my step mother and were discussing Covid and it's impact on life. My step mom said that after the Covid shut down, that 30% attendance has dropped 30% at her church , although there is no live streaming any more. She said that they used to have two services--one for the old and one for the young, but now they have merged them into a single service. Apparently the young people desire LOUD music, so the church's way of accommodating the older people is to hand out ear plugs. I did attend this church...

Today, President Trump’s social media app Truth Social was released after months of hype surrounding the free speech alternative to social media platforms like Twitter. The app’s launch has been wildly successful, with it hitting #1 in the Apple Store and hundreds of thousands of accounts already created. When the app was announced months ago, the liberal media already started attacking it. One journalist at “The Independent” went so far as to call the free speech app a ‘threat to democracy’. With the app’s highly successful rollout, liberals have already aired their grievances on social media and in the press....

Gunfire erupted when violent Antifa militants appear to have picked a fight with a notorious Portland, Ore. area biker gang. Antifa lost. Sunday on New York WABC 770 AM radio’s “The Cats Roundtable,” Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) argued that President Joe Biden and his administration intended to “push people out of” fuel-based vehicles with their energy policy. Thune told host John Catsimatidis that Democrats want to be more “eco-friendly,” so they have decided to push people toward electric vehicles. “I think honestly, that’s part of the strategy,” Thune outlined. “I think it’s to push people out of, you know, fuel-based vehicles. But you are absolutely going to crush the economy and a lot of middle-income families, many of whom are...

Yogi Berra called and he says he’s got Deja Vu like it’s the 2008 financial crisis all over again. In 2008, formerly staid and respectable mortgage lenders found themselves at huge risk from stupid government policies forcing them to lend to people who could not pay back. Never fear, they had spread the risk in the secondary market, which should have had a stabilizing effect, but ended up more like a circular firing squad with banks toppling like dominoes.History does not repeat, but it rhymes:In 2021, staid, respectable, and conservative insurance companies suddenly found themselves at huge risk from bad government...

ARLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Alec Baldwin and his family have purchased a retreat in Vermont — a farmhouse and about 50 acres. The historic farmhouse, built before 1800, and a guest cottage rest on “50-something acres” and the property is “just gorgeous,” Faith Rhodes, principal broker and owner of Rhodes Real Estate, told the Bennington Banner. Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria, drew media interest when they visited last fall after a gun the actor was holding discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a New Mexico movie set. Baldwin contend it was a tragic accident. Also injured was the film’s director....

The New York Times reported this past weekend that the CDC has chosen not to publish huge amounts of COVID data, instead keeping it secret, because it fears that the information would cause ‘vaccine hesitancy’ among the American public. The report notes that the withheld data includes information on boosters, hospitalizations, wastewater analyses, as well as critical information on COVID infections and deaths broken down by age, race, and vaccination status. The justification for holding the information back? Fears that the data would be “misinterpreted” and lead to “vaccine hesitancy,” according to the report. In other words, it didn’t fit into the...

Elk hunting is immensely popular in Utah, so popular that it took fewer than 10 hours for all 17,500 of Utah's elk hunting permits to be scooped up last season. But while Utahns know when it's hunting season through a set calendar, a recent study suggests Utah elk also seem to know when it's hunting season — and where to go to seek refuge until it's over.
