I got an email this week from a former bow-tied bum kisser at the Globe about a book he’s writing on Fat Boy — the late Sen. Ted Kennedy. “My editors have asked me, in this Me Too era, to make sure that I have done a thorough search for incidents in which Sen. Kennedy’s behavior caused injury or harm to women.” Wow. Talk about an open-ended order. The hagiographer, er biographer, mentioned that the usual incidents — Chappaquiddick, Palm Beach, La Brasserie — will “of course” rate chapters in his tome. Of course they will. “I am writing to...

When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. New International Version ©1984, Abrdgd, EMPHASES...

Inflation is blamed on many things. But it has only one cause: It is a monetary phenomenon. Inflation occurs when the quantity of money increases faster than the quantity of goods. Why does the money supply increase? Very often, it does so to enable the government to pay its bills without raising taxes. There's only one real cure for inflation. It is a cure that's easy to describe but difficult to apply: The government must reduce spending and print less money. The alternatives are both recession and double-digit inflation.

Midwestern states dominate the Top List for states with worst potholes, with Indiana, Michigan and Ohio also ranking high. Drivers in Illinois pay the second highest gas tax in the country. Despite that, Illinois is near the top of the list for the states with the worst pothole problem. A study by QuoteWizard says Illinois is the 7th worst state for potholes. Midwestern states dominate the top ten with Indiana, Michigan and Ohio also making an appearance. Researcher Nick VinZant said pothole damage costs U.S. drivers $3 billion a year with the average cost for repairs around $300. “But you...

NEW YORK (AP) — Dr. Deborah Birx has a memoir coming out this spring that will focus on her contentious time as White House coronavirus task force coordinator in the administration of President Donald Trump. Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, announced Monday that Birx’s “Silent Invasion: The Untold Story of The Trump Administration, COVID-19, and Preventing the Next Pandemic Before It’s Too Late,” will be published April 26. “I wrote ‘Silent Invasion’ to document the full extent of what I witnessed as I tried to save lives during this devastating time,” Birx said in a statement. “In the book,...

Some black Americans love to rail about white privilege and the systemic racism that they claim permeates America even now. They are busy promoting Critical Race Theory in our schools, removing historical statues, and working to rewrite our national story through the lens of irredeemable racism. To the most radical, rejecting any of their initiatives is all the proof needed to confirm how racist you are, whether you are aware of it or not. For decades, America has worked to integrate communities and the workplace, and silently endured the racist attacks in hopes that all would gradually appreciate the progress...

Key Points The department store industry's recovery will soon be capped by waning interest that was declining well before the pandemic surfaced. Commodity metal prices are elevated right now, but both the supply and demand forces at work are both set to weaken sooner than most anyone anticipates.

Under President Donald Trump, many conservatives started calling themselves populists. The term hasn’t been popular in significant numbers since the late Ross Perot ran unsuccessfully for president as a third party candidate in 1992. He was no conservative, falling somewhere between the left and the right on the spectrum. So what is this all about, some conservatives taking the term for themselves? Just like Perot, there are elements of populism that overlap with conservatism, and elements that tilt more to the left. It sounds great; power to the people, not ruled by the elites. Trump railed against the deep state,...

Dr. Dre & Co. took the weight of the hip-hop culture on the Super Bowl stage, shouldered the pressure from skeptics and delivered a strong halftime show to prove that edgy rap can work at the world’s biggest sporting events. All it took was hip-hop’s most controversial figures — and one knee taken by music’s most prominent white rapper. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar were headliners along with 50 Cent as a special guest at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday. Their collective performance is one of the best since Beyoncé and Bruno Mars’...

Clinton, 74, is being accused of hiring a tech term to infiltrate servers at Trump Tower and the White House during the 2016 campaign. According to a recently-released filing, the aim was to try and smear Trump by linking him to Russia. Clinton's campaign repeatedly accused Trump of using a secret server to communicate with Russians, although the claim has never been proven. A growing chorus of Democrats believe 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton should be questioned by special advisor John Durham for her alleged role in the Russian secret server scandal in a poll conducted before bombshell revelations that...

For those who, like me, value freedom, the valiant protest in which the Canadian truckers are engaged is inspiring. We’ve also been thrilled to see the thousands of Canadians who turned out to support the truckers. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s response (running away, name-calling, huge threats) is beginning to disgust people across the political spectrum. Polls show, however, that even though a bare majority of Canadians dislike mandates, most of them are still inert. In the conservative blogosphere, writers have made no secret of how much Trudeau repulses them. Douglas Murray sums up the feelings of lots of people...

Two harrowing examples show the stark differences between COVID treatment in red and blue states. There is no lack of stark contrast between the way conservative/red states and liberal/blue states have handled the COVID crisis over the past two years. I live in Massachusetts, Land o' Warren, home to the biggest destructively phony RINO of all time, Governor Charlie Baker, surrounded by über-liberal Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Bernieland. It is CNN/MSNBC-style groupthink around here, to the point where the daily headlines and news stories seem like caricatures of themselves, as if no one could actually believe the stuff they're saying....
