On Thursday, Cal Fire released video of the Colorado Fire burn scar as seen from the air. As of Saturday morning, Cal Fire reports that the Colorado Fire, which is burning on the Big Sur coast, is 85% contained and has burned 700 acres. They expect it to be fully contained as of Feb. 2. Wednesday afternoon all evacuation orders and road closures were lifted. The wildfire ignited when an intentional burn of a pile of debris escaped, Cal Fire said. Cal Fire reported that the pile burning appeared to have been on private property and whether the residents had...

While lots of calibers of ammunition are slowly returning to many store shelves, primers haven’t really reappeared in any meaningful numbers since The Time Before. The two major players in the market, Olin (Winchester) and Vista Outdoor (Remington, CCI and Federal) have maxxed out their production with most of the output going to loaded ammunition. This seems like a very good time to add a third producer and more capacity. Good news: investors are doing just that, starting up a new company in the great state of Texas dedicated to making primers by the truckload. This new company doesn’t appear to be...

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Thursday Border Patrol agents and Customs officers have seized more than 2,700 pounds of fentanyl in only the first three months of fiscal year 2022 as the crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border continues unabated. The large seizure of the extremely dangerous drug, which only takes 2 milligrams to induce an overdose, in only three months means CBP is on pace to overtake the amount that was seized in fiscal year 2019, 2,804 pounds, and fiscal year 2020, 4,791 pounds. Fiscal year 2021, which includes the year Joe Biden became president, CBP officers...

Norwegian Minister of Health and Care Services Ingvild Kjerkol announced that "we will not be recommending that children be vaccinated for covid. The risk for children suffering serious illness is extremely low. The side-effects of the vaccines pose a more serious threat to their health. We are also urging 12-15 year-olds who have already gotten one dose to not get the second dose because of the heightened risk of myocarditis." She went on to cite numerous recent studies supporting these decisions. In Sweden, Health Agency official Britta Bjorkholm said "we are not recommending covid vaccination for children ages 5-12. With...

House Democrats are losing sleep that the looming midterm elections could be a wipeout, and will grant Republicans firm control of the chamber, insiders on both sides of the aisles told The Post. “If we don’t fix things now, we will get mauled in November,” said one battleground Democratic member of Congress. “Anyone in a tough district knows it. The rest have their head stuck in the sand.”

During the 1992 election, Texas billionaire Ross Perot managed to get on the ballot as an independent presidential candidate in all 50 states and garnered 19 percent of the vote. It was a remarkable feat that — in the eyes of some Republicans, including President George H.W. Bush and his son, George W. Bush — tipped the election to Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton. Keep in mind, that percentage of voters chose the third-party candidate even after it was reported that Perot, who loved conspiracies, claimed he saw five men with rifles on his front lawn and, later, that the Bush...

In the wake of the 2020 election, a number of Republican-controlled state legislatures have made moves to make it harder to vote. But even amid this cavalcade of voter restrictions, a new bill proposed by a GOP legislator in Arizona stands out -- and not in a good way. GOP state Rep. John Fillmore introduced legislation this week that would, among other things, get rid of almost all absentee and early voting in the state and mandate all votes be HAND-counted within 24 hours of polling sites being closed. "We should have voting, in my opinion, in person, one day...

My take: Well, of course, for any number of modern troops, armed with whatever modern weapons you want to arm them with, there is a theoretical huge number of primitive sword swingers who could overwhelm them in a battle. So what? Fun though.

Canada has taken yet another step toward authoritarianism by banning unvaccinated citizens from entering stores and other establishments without first showing proof of vaccination and a government-issued ID card. Canadians have been informed that only fully vaccinated individuals may enter stores such as IKEA, Walmart, Costco or any other large retailer, according to CBC News. The ministerial decree covers stores which are 16,146 square feet or larger, and excludes grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations. The government also insisted that this rule is only aimed at encouraging more people to get vaccinated. Authorities in Quebec instituted further rules for the...

The First Gay PopeThe real reasons why Pope Francis is pushing Catholics to become more welcoming and less judgmental of gays and lesbians Bill Clinton has often been called the United States' "first Black president", even by many African-Americans.During his eight years in the White House (1993-2001), his policies and appointments were seen as promoting issues vital to the Black community and -- just as importantly -- helping to transcend the ugly racial divide that, unfortunately, still exists in "America".Toni Morrison, the writer who initially pinned the "first Black president" label to Clinton back in 1998, did not mean it...

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has made a change to its cartoon mascot Herbie Husker to eliminate confusion about the meaning of a hand gesture he makes that some people connect with white supremacy. In the original depiction of the mascot, which debuted in the early 1970s, Herbie’s left hand made the “OK” sign with the index finger and thumb forming a closed circle. In recent years, some hate groups have come to use the gesture as a sign for white power — three straight fingers make a ‘W’ and the circle formed next to an extended...

Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to hold talks with Germany, France and Ukraine as NATO fails to take action on the rising conflict in Easter Europe and President Joe Biden's announcement on Friday that he would deploy troops 'in the near term' without backing from NATO. The blow to NATO and exclusion of America in negotiation talks on the Russian-Ukraine crisis came after Putin accused the U.S. and NATO of ignoring the Kremlin's 'fundamental concerns' over NATO's growth during a call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday. During the call, Putin argued that the West had refused Russians...
