WASHINGTON (AP) - As the COVID-19 omicron variant surges across the United States, top federal health officials are looking to add a negative test along with its five-day isolation restrictions for asymptomatic Americans who catch the coronavirus, the White House’s top medical adviser said Sunday. Under that Dec. 27 guidance, isolation restrictions for people infected with COVID-19 were shortened from 10 days to five days if they...

What an awful year this was. I sincerely hope the coming year is better. Here are a few loose ends that need clearing up as that dreadful year drops off into memory. The first priority is to hold public health authorities responsible for the mess they made. Professor Glenn Reynolds has my vote for holding them accountable. They lied to us, manipulated us for political purposes, and completely betrayed our trust. He summarizes their acts and argues: “It’s time for a rigorous investigation -- perhaps a Truth and Reconciliation Commission with subpoena power -- to get to the bottom of...

After desperately searching his mind for an answer during his silence he finally came up with a lame bureaucratic answer: "limited resources."

French authorities on Sunday removed a large European Union flag attached to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris after right-wing and far-right opponents of President Emmanuel Macron accused him of “erasing” French identity. “Preside over Europe yes, erase French identity no!” tweeted Valerie Pecresse, the conservative candidate for the Republicans. Polls indicate she could be the primary challenger to French President Emmanuel Macron in the upcoming vote. She called on Macron to restore the French flag at the iconic war monument. “We owe it to our soldiers who spilled their blood for it,” she said. Far-right leader Marine Le Pen...

The Epiphany of the Lord Matthew 2:1-12 Friends, the Gospel for the feast of the Epiphany contains some elemental theological themes. One of them has to do with the relation between Christianity and the nations. We hear something extraordinary. Magi from the East left their home country in search of a newborn king whose star they had observed at its rising. Why, precisely, would people leave their own country in order to worship a foreign king at his birth? So this odd story should get our attention. Magi—kings, astrologers—seek out a foreign king who somehow, nevertheless, belongs to them. We’re...

Pfizer has hired the former policy director for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Hazen Marshall, as a lobbyist to support the Big Pharma firm’s efforts to shut down amendments to the False Claims Amendments Act of 2021. The trajectory of their life is an impressive story about integration, progress, entrepreneurship, scientific...

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12 (King James Version) When are the wokesters going to stop being such a bag full of hypocrisy? They are so quick to claim America is a dirty country for its exaggerated histoir of racism, sexism, and homophobia but it is the only country who has such sins according to the Virtue Crowd. When are they going to admonish the horrific treatment of China on their people? Apparently, every enemy of America is their friend. Colleges across the nation like Oregon and California claim...

I am all in favor of diversity and inclusivity in theory, but when the pilot comes on the horn and welcomes us from the cockpit, I want to feel that he or she is a Republican. I want to hear authority in the voice, a growliness that comes from having shouted orders at people. I do not want my pilot to come on singing “Off we go into the wild blue yonder” and if he does, I’m off the plane. If it’s a woman pilot, I want her to be crisp and chill, not warm and caring. If she mentions...
