Step off the New York City subway at 125th and Lexington, and you will find yourself in what can only be called an open-air drug market. The subway entrance is an easy place to score—the day I visited, one man stood yelling, “Drugs! Drugs! Drugs!” like a ballpark vendor. On every block, people slump where they stand, “nodding out” from opioid intoxication. ---SNIP--- The Third Circuit Court of Appeals found that the sites contravene the Controlled Substances Act’s so-called Crack House Statute, which prohibits opening a space with the express purpose of facilitating drug use. Four of the city’s five...

Meet Rachel Rollins. I came across the video clip below in my Twitter feed yesterday. Brief as it is, the video tells you just about everything you need to know about her. She is a racist. She is a race hustler. She is vulgar. She is vile. She is a nut. A decent person wouldn’t want anything to do with her. And yet, as of Wednesday, she is the new United States Attorney for Massachusetts. FOX News has a good story on the video with background here. She is of course a Biden appointee. She was confirmed on a 50-50...

Explanation: During polar day, in Arctic and Antarctic summer, the Sun stays above the horizon for periods of 24 hours or more. Recorded on December 4, this fisheye timelapse image tracks the Sun in multiple frames as it completes a circle in the summer sky above Union Glacier, Antarctica. Of course on that date, Union Glacier's sky did grow dark even though the Sun was above the horizon. Captured during the brief period of totality, an eclipsed Sun is at bottom center of the composite view. Near the edge of the total eclipse path across planet Earth, the Moon's shadow...

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota lakes have lost nearly two weeks of lake ice over the past 50 years as climate change diminishes the state’s winters, officials from Minnesota’s natural resources and pollution control agencies said Friday. According to newly released data from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Department of Natural Resources, the state has lost an average of 10 to 14 days of lake ice over the past 50 years — a change officials say is hurting local economies, the environment and the Minnesota way of life. Some northern Minnesota lakes have seen steeper declines, including Lake Bemidji, which...

Kamala Harris doesn't actually do anything in her job, and maybe that's more than just her laziness. Actually, with her miserable performance, and her poll numbers bottoming even Joe Biden's, she seems to be in the throes of a power struggle with the White House to hold on to her job. That's the argument of the American Spectator, which has an interesting piece on signs of a White House bid to dump Harris: "The White House has been undercutting the vice president since Inauguration Day. She was assigned a portfolio of controversial and virtually impossible-to-achieve issues: stemming the flow across...

The Ministry of Health is investigating claims a man received 10 Covid-19 vaccine doses in one day. Stuff has reported that the man was getting vaccinated on behalf of other people and is understood to have visited several vaccination centres and was paid for the jabs. Covid-19 vaccine and immunisation programme group manager operations Astrid Koornneef said the ministry is taking this matter very seriously, and is working with the appropriate agencies. She said people who have had more doses than recommended should seek clinical advice as soon as practicable.

People currently aged 14 and under will never be able to legally purchase tobacco. New Zealand has announced it will outlaw smoking for the next generation, so that those who are aged 14 and under today will never be legally able to buy tobacco. New legislation means the legal smoking age will increase every year, to create a smoke-free generation of New Zealanders, associate health minister Dr Ayesha Verrall said on Thursday. “This is a historic day for the health of our people,” she said. ...

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A former San Diego-area police officer who pushed a Black man during an arrest last year was acquitted Friday of lying on his report about the incident, which was captured on video and sparked widespread looting and arson amid nationwide racial unrest. A jury deliberated over three days before finding former La Mesa police Officer Matthew Dages not guilty on one count of providing false testimony. Dages, 30, dropped his head to his chest in relief after the verdict was read. Defense attorney Jeremiah J. Sullivan III criticized San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan for...

"I'm so glad it's all women in here." As a family doctor and abortion provider, I hear this all the time. I know how important it is for many of the patients I care for to be seen by someone who shares their experiences. But I am not a woman. I am trans. Getting dressed for every shift, I put on my they/them and he/him pronoun pins. Like many trans folx, I use multiple pronouns. Often these go unseen. People assume my gender based on what they've been taught about which bodies look like a woman and which bodies look...

CNN can’t help itself. The network actually spun news of Americans seeing the highest inflation in nearly 40 years as positive news in an attempt to benefit President Joe Biden. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released a jaw-dropping report showing that the Consumer Price Index skyrocketed 6.8 percent on a year-over-year basis in November. The inflation was “even more than expected,” and was the “fastest rate since 1982,” according to CNBC. CNN Chief Business Correspondent Christine Romans kicked off her coverage of the inflation news on CNN Newsroom by initially characterizing it as a “gut punch that feels like it...

Chris Cuomo schemed to discredit Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean, allegedly calling her “that Fox weather XXXXX” in texts after she criticized Gov. Andrew Cuomo for transferring COVID-19 patients to nursing homes. Fox’s senior meteorologist Dean lost her mother and father-in-law to COVID in March and April of 2020, and became an outspoken critic of the governor and his deadly policy to allow COVID-19 patients into nursing homes, saying on “Fox & Friends,” “He needs to go to jail!” According to a source, canned CNN anchor Chris wanted to fight to defend his brother and texted with Andrew’s staff about...

SEATTLE (AP) — Two artists are facing federal charges that they faked Native American heritage to sell works at downtown Seattle galleries. Lewis Anthony Rath, 52, of Maple Falls, and Jerry Chris Van Dyke, 67, also known as Jerry Witten, of Seattle, have been charged separately with violating the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, which prohibits misrepresentation in marketing American Indian or Alaska Native arts and crafts. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Rath falsely claimed to be a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, and Van Dyke falsely claimed membership in the Nez Perce Tribe. The goods included masks,...

Embattled Hollywood star Alec Baldwin has seemingly gone into hiding after his name emerged in court documents, presented in the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, that linked him to deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The actor’s name appeared child sex trafficker Epstein’s “little black book” of contacts when it was unsealed in court last week. Shortly after, Baldwin and his wife mysteriously deleted their verified social media accounts and have since dropped out of public view. The Baldwins went dark shortly after Epstein’s book was revealed as evidence during the trial of his alleged trafficking accomplice Maxwell. When Alec and his wife...

First Lady Jill Biden sorted donated toys with children of service members on Friday at Arlington National Cemetery, participating in the annual Toys for Tots event for the first time. The event at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall included over 30 children and the first lady, who read part of 'The Grinch' to the group and called on them as they told her what Christmas meant to them and what they wanted for the holiday.
