The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located. This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack...

Buffalo, NY (Sat, 11/26/21) I was visiting aging father in a major hospital in Buffalo, NY. My stepmom (dad’s wife) was frantically concerned about his missing items including his vaccination card (showing they both got their boosters back in October), all while a nurse was checking his vitals. Then in an un-solicited comment, the nurse stated: “…Hospitals in the [Buffalo] area are filling up with mostly VACCINATED patients..”. She went on: “The problem is they take that shot and think they are safe, but they’re not.” She stated they should still wear the mask and do the social distancing thing....

BioNTech SE (22UAy.DE) said on Friday it expects more data on a worrying new coronavirus variant detected in South Africa within two weeks to help determine whether its vaccine produced with partner Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) would have to be reworked. Pfizer and BioNTech said that if necessary they expect to be able to ship a new vaccine tailored to the emerging variant in approximately 100 days

I am growing more concerned that recent gang smash and grab activity is going to move into the neighborhoods. Why not? Of all the troubling news I've seen lately I believe this is the beginning of something—a virus—that is going to spread like wildfire. I know all you gun types will be protected but watch for those around you too.

Never say that Biden is incompetent. His goal is to bring the country down and he is doing exactly what is necessary to succeed. Still, we can survive and fight back. Remember when Obama said that his policies would raise the cost of energy substantially and that this would be good for America? He said this in campaign speeches and was still elected. Biden has successfully followed thru on these policies. One way to do this is to write down trillions of dollars of fossil fuels in the ground as stranded assets and kill all the traditional energy companies. Then...

With everything else on the planet to worry about I don’t know if this is worth keeping you up at night or not. But I pass it on so you can decide for yourself: Inexplicable Phenomena Spur Pentagon to Launch New UFO Investigation Force. It could be anything…The order came five months after a classified US intelligence report on possible alien UFOs came up inconclusive: it could explain some reported incidents but was unable to account for other phenomena, some filmed by pilots near military testing areas.Honestly, they are far more likely to be from, oh I don’t know, China...

Smug is the word that best describes the nature of the Democrat party. Moral superiority is their claim to fame. Confidence in their ability is their currency. Complacency is their fatal flaw. Smug is the word that best describes the nature of the Democrat party. This is certainly true now but smugness has always been the primary characteristic of the American left. Moral superiority is their claim to fame. Confidence in their ability is their currency. Complacency is their fatal flaw. So confident were Democrats in the rightness of their hatred for Donald Trump, they never questioned their own criminality...

We just learned that, in Germany, you must get a vaccine before you can do this...the last thing you’d ever thought would require vaccination. Germany is a country that’s simply weird when it comes to death. During the 1930s it euthanized its physically and developmentally disabled people, including children, to 'purify' its population. In the 1940s, it slaughtered Jews, gypsies, and homosexuals to 'purify' the world. Then, for a long time, it stopped killing people. However, Germany is now one of the European countries that allow euthanasia, so it’s now killing people because they want to die. However, no matter...

We’re being told it’s Spring 2020 all over again, with the madness of masks and lockdowns looming, and Democrats doubling down on vaccines. The big news today—the one that sent oil prices and stock markets plummeting—is that there is a new variant of COVID emerging in South Africa called. It’s been christened the “omicron” variant. Currently, it’s hard to tell if it’s really something to worry about or if it’s a variation on the theme. It’s enough to know that world governments are reacting as if it’s Spring 2020 all over again, plus more pressure for vaccines, all of which...

“You can’t handle the truth,” the famous line uttered by Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men, could well be the motto of many educrats. Sheltering students from the truth when it offends the politically correct sentiments of favored minorities is all too common. And this phenomenon is not limited to the United States. Consider this from the UK Daily Mail: A Canadian school has cancelled an event with ISIS survivor Nadia Murad, saying her visit would be offensive to Muslims and foster 'Islamophobia'. Murad was scheduled to sit down with students from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) -...

Hillary Clinton is emerging from the shadows and pimping censorship as the solution to the Democrats’ ills. Hillary Clinton is emerging from the shadows and pimping censorship as the solution to the Democrats’ ills. All this is taking place just as talk builds of Kamala Harris’s disastrous performance as veep and the Democrats’ terrible presidential electoral prospects in 2024. Hillary’s never conceded the 2016 election, and the lust for power she’s exhibited in the past appears unabated. Something is going on that brings her back to the public spotlight. She appeared with Rachel Maddow the past week and managed to...

Once money and status started flowing into climate science because of the disaster its denizens were predicting, there was no going back. Climate change prophecy hangs its hat on computer climate models. The models have gigantic problems. According to Kevin Trenberth, once in charge of modeling at the National Center for Atmospheric research, [none of the] “models correspond even remotely to the current observed climate” [of the Earth]. The models can’t properly model the Earth’s climate, but we are supposed to believe that if carbon dioxide has a certain effect in the imaginary Earths of the many models it will...

  • Floridians are killing the state’s beloved manatees

What a bad year to be a Florida manatee. For the first time on record, more than 1,000 of the sea mammals have died in a calendar year — and it’s not even December yet. That could amount to 1 in every 7 of the state’s manatees gone in less than 11 months. Many of them starved, thanks to a die-off of seagrass, a problem worsened by human-made pollution. In the short run, Florida owes it to this iconic mammal to find ways to mitigate the damage. It’s also time to put the manatees back on the endangered species list,...

Earlier this month, news outlets all over the world reported breathlessly on new research which claimed to find that e-cigarette users were 15 percent more likely to have a stroke at young age than smokers. News sources as diverse as the Daily Mail in the UK, the South African Sunday Times, and all major U.S. TV stations picked up on it ensuring that a large portion of the global population were exposed to this bad news. The problem is that this “research” was at best, highly misleading and, at worst, plain wrong. First, this was not new published research as...

The criminal trial against Kyle Rittenhouse is over. He has been found Not Guilty of all charges by a jury. Although Rittenhouse has not confirmed or denied filing defamation suits against news outlets which defamed him, many speculate he will. However, some of the people Rittenhouse will not be suing are Michael Graveley, Kenosha District Attorney, or Thomas Binger, the Prosecutor who tried him. Binger was admonished in court by Judge Schroeder for what was characterized as grave constitutional violations. Binger accused Rittenhouse of staying silent to match his story with that of other witnesses, implying there was something criminal...

President Joe Biden on Friday was slammed for enacting travel restrictions on eight countries due to a fresh coronavirus variant after calling former President Trump’s coronavirus travel restrictions in 2020 racist and xenophobic.Trump issued travel restrictions on countries around the globe after the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic landed in the United States in 2020. Biden was quick to label those protectionist measures racist and xenophobic, like this tweet from February 1, 2020, following a travel-ban announcement:"We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria,...
