The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
A quote from an author I am sure you all know.
If you need a clue ask the group to send you a letter to your private reply.

If you want on or off the daily cryptogram ping list reply to this post and state your intention: ON or OFF.
Down for the count, he was.
Good one to start the day. Thank you!!!
I always look over the CG before I turn over the hour glass. Looking at the unique name of the author, I couldn’t think of another first name that would fit. So I tried it, and Voila! it opened up the puzzle like a ripe melon.
Yes, very nice way to start the day!

Keep working on your 1-2 combination.
It’s a funny one! And it carries a big punch.
Got the author first, then on from there
Same here.
About a minute and a half.
First word, then most common letter gives next-to-last word.
Those give word 15 trivially.
Then word 15 by grammar gives you.
That gives words 14 and 16, and those give you the author’s name.
That gives word 10 and you’re good to go.
Knowing what the author had done in a previous life made this a breeze for me.
H/T to Bill Stern and his Favorite Sports Stories. As a youngster I read and re-read this, Favorite Football Stories and Favorite Baseball Stories until Mom wouldn’t let me use any more Scotch Tape to hold them together.
I was full of hope when I started this one, and I fought my way through to a big win. Day late, my opponent was Buck Short. He had a bit of a left jab.
