WASHINGTON, Friday, Oct. 25. Gen. HANCOCK remained nearly the whole day at Vienna, with a large force, who reconnoitered the country in different directions for miles without encountering any force of the enemy. Information received to-night represents everything as quiet along the whole line. Col. BETJE has extended his pickets a mile beyond Annandale. His scouts, however, have been within a mile of Fairfax. The latest reports from the Lower Potomac state that the rebel steamer Page is at Quantico Creek. The rebels had been throwing a few shells to the Maryland shore. The Yankee, Resolute and Reliance are watching...

October 26, 2021 Tuesday of week 30 in Ordinary Time Thessaloniki, Church of St Demetrius Readings at MassLiturgical Colour: Green.First readingRomans 8:18-25 ©The whole creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal his sonsI think that what we suffer in this life can never be compared to the glory, as yet unrevealed, which is waiting for us. The whole creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal his sons. It was not for any fault on the part of creation that it was made unable to attain its purpose, it was made so by God; but creation still retains the...

If no one goes to prison for actor Alec Baldwin's accidental killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, our society will have failed a crucial moral test. We will be saying human life is not sacred; that it, in effect, is of little or no consequence. The killing was, we presume, unintentional (though we do not know for sure, as the possibility remains that someone had motive to load the gun with real ammunition). But that does not mean that no one should be held culpable and punished. Society must regard the taking of human life -- even when unintentional -- as...

The United Nations tells Texas it must move to greenie energy to remain prosperous. The United Nations, awash in greenie ideology, has decided that now would be a good time to horn in on the state of Texas's internal energy production. For its own good, of course: NEW YORK — The leader of the United Nations says Texas must end its reliance on oil and gas production to remain prosperous in the era of climate change. At a UN summit next month, world leaders will be asked to rapidly cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030. A vast increase...

When you’re doing something you’re proud of and happy with, you want nothing more than every set of eyes you can find to be focused on you like lasers. When you’re failing, screwing up completely and embarrassed by what you are participating in, you need a distraction, desperately. That’s where the administration of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Ron Klain, and whoever else is really pulling the strings behind the scenes find themselves in, in desperate need of a distraction. The border is open, the economy is sputtering, the supply chain is in shambles, China is on the rise, the United...

Alan Dershowitz, an emeritus law professor at Harvard, is one of the greatest legal minds of our time, writing multiple books and publishing hundreds of articles about the law. He has been defending clients in courtrooms since the 1970s and argued numerous cases before the Supreme Court. He was also on the team that defended Donald Trump against impeachment. Alan Dershowitz believes that Alec Baldwin’s shooting of Halyna Hutchins could be considered a homicide. Gun safety protocols are so stringent that an accident of this kind is almost impossible. Armando Gutierrez recalls that on the set of Purge of Kingdoms,...

What happens when a man dressed as a woman, not even a combat veteran, is made the first female 4-star admiral? He denies a real woman the honor. What happens when a boy running as a girl beats a girl in a track and field tournament? Well, a boy denies a girl a trophy or in some cases a scholarship. I remember when boys denying girls trophies was called sexism or some other -ism. Wasn't promoting girls' sports the objective of Title 9? I guess that no one thought about woke back then. What happens when a man dressed as...

Pete Buttigieg may be politically driven, but in his new job as Secretary of Transportation he seems as effective as a speed bump on the road to relieving the supply chain hang-up at our Southern California ports. His clueless inaction suggests that he was tapped for that cabinet post because his seven-month tour of duty in Afghanistan included occasionally driving other personnel in a Toyota Land Cruiser outside “the wire” of his camp and along the clogged streets of Kabul. Like other Joe Biden cabinet appointees, such as Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and Homeland Security...

The FDA is meeting on October 26th to give advice to parents on vaccination for children ages 5-12 and the Biden administration is poised to roll out vaccines for this age group for COVID-19. Is this a good idea and what information do parents need to make this decision for their kids? I am not a pediatrician -- I am a recently retired Internal Medicine doctor. I am not an anti-vaxxer. I have taken all the vaccines that have gone through the usual approval protocol for my age group. I have prescribed vaccines for adult patients for 35 years. I...

Most journalists and other Democrats like to pretend that they want to unite the country, but their rhetoric and actions are always meant to sow division. Most journalists and other Democrats like to pretend that they want to unite the country, but their rhetoric and actions are always meant to sow division. No matter which Republican the Democrats are running against, or what policies they are supporting, most of the media and other Democrats always resort to playing the race and sex card. They call Republican’s xenophobes, homophobes, and whatever other despicable name they can think of. They even frequently...

How to respond to the coronavirus pandemic has been a major issue in the Virginia’s governor’s case. Democrat Terry McAuliffe, the former governor seeking his old job, has supported vaccine mandates, while Republican Glenn Youngkin has opposed them. Youngkin has been vaccinated, and has encouraged coronavirus vaccination. But McAuliffe has labeled him an “anti-vaxxer” because, McAuliffe charges, Youngkin sends a different message when he goes on right-wing radio or speaks to conservative audiences. In speaking about the threat of the coronavirus to the state, McAuliffe frequently touts numbers — often wrong numbers about the impact on children. When we first...

Starting yesterday, the unvaccinated are prohibited from stepping inside a gym, theater, or restaurant without a negative COVID-19 test. If huge crowds at SEC college football games are any indication, much of the country has moved on from the media's ticker-induced COVID-19 hysteria. Conversely, in the dystopian Pacific Northwest, Governor Jay Inslee's reign of terror against the unvaccinated goes largely unchallenged and unabated. According to Marty Makary, a professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, citing an Israeli study of more than 700,000 people, natural immunity from infection confers 27 times more protection than the jab. And yet,...

Pray For The Peace of JerusalemJob 14 His sons used to hold feasts in their homes on their birthdays, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom. _______________________________________________________God Bless America.ML/LTOS

The supply chain crisis and fuel shortages that will harm Americans this winter and beyond have been created by dumb, but deliberate, government decisions. During World War II, U.S. coal companies ran radio advertisements cautioning people to buy only what they needed for immediate use. The government anticipated needing to use much of the available coal to keep pace with the urgent demand for it by the military. Eventually, the U.S. government rationed gasoline and oil, too. Eighty years later, electric utilities are once again warning Americans that we could be in for a long, cold, dark winter. However, the...

Tech and IT workers' resignations risk "spiralling out of control" as chronic burnout, limited career progression, and unrealistic demands from employers prompt technology industry employees to jump ship. New research by training platform TalentLMS and Workable, a provider of recruiting software, suggests that tech and IT workers are likely to be planning an exit soon. In a survey of 1,200 tech and IT workers in the US, nearly three-quarters (72%) said they intended to quit within the next year. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the quit rate in the US hit a record high of 4.3...

Inflation, empty shelves, energy prices, Chinese hypersonic missiles, Taiwan, Afghanistan and trhe border she's in charge of fixing are of less interest to our intrepid Veep. Kamala Harris took to Twitter to announce the issuance of “the first ever National Gender Strategy,” as if that were more important than her assigned duty of taking charge of the border, not to mention the multiple other crises that are making most Americans poorer and endangering out national security. Oh, and by the way, driving down the polling for the Biden administration. You’ll be relieved to know that it covers both equity and...

Old-school Democrats are screaming at the Hard Left as the storm clouds gather.A rare snippet of truth surfaced on MSNBC Monday morning, and it came from a somewhat shocking source. You’re aware of Donny Deutsch, right? He might win the prize for the most typical ruling-class Democrat in America. Deutsch comes from the advertising field — he inherited a New York ad agency from his father, which he unloaded on a larger company and pocketed $265 million. What did Deutsch like better than crafting advertising messages and placing media? Going on TV, of course. CNBC gave him a show from 2004-08,...

Once you understand how our society is almost hardwired to embrace endlessly failing leftist solutions, you can learn how to avoid those same mistakes. The whole Progressive, Leftist enterprise can be characterized as the astonishing practice of trying to improve things by making them worse. It has always been so. A hundred years ago, half of Moscow, at one time or another, languished in jail, while the other half feared being arrested. The Muscovites who were still at large were forced to wait in long lines for provisions that remained in short supply. Agriculture had been disrupted by cockeyed regulations....

The Administration hopes to sell a bill of goods to reluctant senators: Other countries are raising corporate taxes, and so should we. That’s not likely to work; if the Biden increase goes into effect, only Portugal and Colombia will have higher corporate tax rates than the U.S. Its other argument is more nefarious. Long story short, the Administration now wants to change the way companies calculate their tax liabilities on international profits. Combined with the new global tax regime just negotiated, U.S. companies could be hit hard with higher taxes.
