Mask-pushing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was apparently caught addressing an outdoor crowd of mask-less Democratic big wigs in COVID-19-riddled Napa Valley over the weekend, according to video and tweets. A clip of the close-quartered fund-raiser was posted on Facebook by Democratic Party donor and winemaker Kathryn Walt Hall — and promptly blasted out on Twitter. The footage appeared to show dozens of unmasked people seated elbow to elbow at long luncheon tables as Pelosi gave a speech and masked waiters ambled between the listeners. “All the servants fully masked,” tweeted journalist Glenn Greenwald. “The almost-entirely old, white, rich crowd of...

Vice President Kamala Harris chuckled at and cut off a reporter to say that Afghanistan is the administration's top priority. Harris, who is currently traveling through South Asia, was asked about the situation in Afghanistan, where the United States and other Western countries have been rapidly working to get their own citizens as well as Afghan refugees out of the country since the Taliban took over. “Hold on. Hold on. Slow down, everybody," she said when approached with questions after disembarking from her voyage. "Hahaha. Um, I want to talk about two things. First, Afghanistan — we couldn’t have a...

Joe Biden was hit by another on-air gaffe Sunday when he appeared to forget the name of his FEMA director just moments after speaking with her. In 10-to-12-second video clips that have sparked widespread discussion about the president's wellbeing, Biden said, 'There's no one better to lead this operation than...than....umm...uh...Deanne....uh....Criswell.' Critics say the flub - which came during a press conference on his withdrawal from Afghanistan, and Tropical Storm Henri, is further evidence of Biden's cognitive decline. -snip- The president has previously suffered two brain aneurysms and a heart condition, which makes the muscle beat too fast and causes dizziness...

Now that Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett has proclaimed that jail inmates will be called “residents” from here on out, so as not to stigmatize and dehumanize them, we have a few humble renaming suggestions for him to consider. After all, why stop there? As Rep. Sheila Stubbs said, it’s “critical that we recognize people as decent people and as citizens.” Even people accused of heinous things like battery and sexual assault, apparently. And even those who aren’t, you know, actually citizens.

Governments around the world are implementing vaccine mandates and vaccine passports with varying degrees of severity, but all of them are shooting for the endgame of universal human inoculation. Mainstream media and Big Tech “arbiters of truth” at Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others are all in on the plan. They may not have all the details, but they know the basic tenets of their two responsibilities. First, they must amplify all pro-vaccine content. Then, they must suppress all anti-vaccine content. These two practices have brought the joie de vivre to authoritarians in Silicon Valley and in newsrooms across the nation....

A message from one of the truckies this morning… we are all about to learn who really is in charge in Australia. Stock up on supplies now just in case and stand up as one with our Aussie truckies and lets end this absolute madness. No wonder truckies are talking about blockading NSW roads and ports. NSW Police have told service stations that they will be shut down and hit with a $5000 fine if they serve meals to truckies.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has announced that it has successfully demonstrated the operation of a “rotating detonation engine” for the first time in space. The novelty of the technologies in question is that such systems obtain a large amount of thrust by using much less fuel compared to conventional rocket engines, which is quite advantageous for space exploration. On July 27, the Japanese agency launched a pair of futuristic propulsion systems into space to carry out the first tests. They were launched from the Uchinoura Space Center aboard the S-520-31, a single-stage rocket capable of lofting a 220...

A man examines the St. Thomas Becket exhibit at The British Museum in London, which is marking the 850th anniversary of the death of the 12th-century saint. (Credit: CNS photo/courtesy The British Museum.)LONDON — In a gallery of The British Museum, light plays on an array of medieval crosses, reliquaries and manuscripts, as an audiovisual display reenacts one of English history’s most notorious crimes. At the center, three stained-glass windows, painstakingly transferred from Canterbury Cathedral, convey images from the fabled afterlife of St. Thomas Becket (1120-1170), next to badges and keepsakes left by generations of pilgrims at his place of...

At least since mid-June this has been happening on the platformFacebook is censoring as "hate speech" the mere posting of the words "Glory to God!" or "Glory to God! Hallelujah!" in any comment to any post on its platform. At least since mid-June of this year this has been happening, and it used to be sporadic, but now it is general. Several users of the platform have done the test for themselves by typing in the comments of any post the words "Glory to God!" or "Glory to God! Hallelujah" and receiving the following message, which immediately appears on their...

Campaigners in Italy have passed the first hurdle in an effort to legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia. Both assisted suicide and euthanasia are illegal in Italy, where the criminal law says, “anyone who causes the death of a man, with his consent, is punished with imprisonment from six to fifteen years.” Since April, pro-euthanasia activists have circulated a petition with the hope of bringing to vote a referendum to remove part of the law, which would effectively decriminalize assisted suicide for adults. The Italian bishops’ conference has expressed “serious concern” about the petition, stating that “there is no expression of...

Artificial intelligence research company OpenAI has announced the development of an AI system that translates natural language to programming code—called Codex, the system is being released as a free API, at least for the time being. Codex is more of a next-step product for OpenAI, rather than something completely new. It builds on Copilot, a tool for use with Microsoft's GitHub code repository. With the earlier product, users would get suggestions similar to those seen in autocomplete in Google, except it would help finish lines of code. Codex has taken that concept a huge step forward by accepting sentences written...

In 2014, when waves of refugees began flooding into western Europe, citizens and officials alike responded with generosity and openness. Exhausted refugees spilled out of trains and buses to be met by crowds bearing gifts of clothing and food, and holding up placards that read “Welcome Refugees.” This was a honeymoon that could not last. Some of the upcoming difficulties had been anticipated: that the newcomers did not speak the local languages, might be traumatized, would probably take a long time to find their footing, and had brought their ethnic, religious and sectarian conflicts with them, causing them to get...

MOSCOW (Reuters) -President Vladimir Putin on Sunday rejected the idea of sending people evacuation from Afghanistan to countries near Russia, saying he did not want "militants showing up here under cover of refugees", Russian news agencies reported. Putin criticized an idea of some Western countries to relocate refugees from Afghanistan to neighbouring Central Asian countries while their visas to the United States and Europe are being processed. "Does that mean that they can be sent without visas to those countries, to our neighbours, while they themselves (the West) don't want to take them without visas?" TASS news agency quoted Putin...

The US withdrawal from Afghanistan was wrong and based on an "imbecilic" slogan, former PM Tony Blair has said. He described the decision to withdraw troops from the country as "tragic, dangerous and unnecessary". Mr Blair, who sent troops into Afghanistan 20 years ago, said UK involvement in Afghanistan was not a "hopeless endeavour" despite the Taliban takeover. And the sacrifice made by British troops "was not in vain", he added. Mr Blair said achievements in the country over the past 20 years - including a generation growing up without Taliban rule - was a "good cause" that "matters today,...

Dozens of students who were enrolled at the University of Virginia had their status reversed because they remained unvaccinated before the start of the semester, officials said Friday. University officials disenrolled 49 students for their failure to meet the school's vaccine mandate, which was announced in May and has been met with overwhelming majority compliance. So far, more than 96% of students have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and 335 students with religious and medical exemptions have been granted permanent waivers, university officials told the Washington Post.
