Academics are growing wary of the peer review process amid mounting evidence that it is compromised by ideological biases and that it does not effectively or reliably ensure the quality of published research. Further, it is increasingly evident that the academic publishing industry’s primary reason for being is not to disseminate new knowledge to the public, but rather to serve as a bureaucratic metric for professional advancement. While the failure of the traditional peer review process might seem to justify pessimism on the part of scholars, the good news is that some academics are reimagining how academic publishing can work....

Election audits are crucial to understanding the 2020 election, but they will not – indeed, they cannot – be the final word. They’re not designed to provide a smoking gun, and it’s reckless and counterproductive to suggest otherwise. Unfortunately, sensationalist claims, from both sides of the political aisle, have created false and exaggerated expectations for Americans across the political spectrum. Breathless claims of hacked voting machines and nefarious algorithms abound, but the most compelling evidence has always pointed toward vulnerabilities being exploited within the system, rather than security being breached from without. There aren’t foreign agents hiding in the closet,...

New Orleans became the latest American city to impose health requirements on patrons of indoor venues Thursday. Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced at a news conference that people who want to enter Big Easy bars, restaurants, music halls or other facilities — including the Superdome — must provide either proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test. “Look for your vaccination card and be prepared to show it,” said Cantrell, who added that the policy would begin Monday, with a one-week grace period before the city starts aggressive enforcement Aug. 23.

WASHINGTON — Nine moderate House Democrats told Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday that they will not vote for a budget resolution meant to pave the way for the passage of a $3.5 trillion social policy package later this year until a Senate-approved infrastructure bill passes the House and is signed into law.

CCP “agreed” to allow mention of the lab leak theory, on the grounds that they did not recommend ANY follow up investigations.. The head of the World Health Organization’s origin investigation into COVID-19 has admitted that China basically ordered his team on what to write in their report and allowed them to mention the lab leak theory, but only on the condition that they didn’t recommend following it up. Revealing what is clear evidence of a cover up, the Washington Post reports that Danish WHO chief Ben Embarek made the admission after also commenting that he believes patient zero was...

Abstract Objectives: This study was undertaken to evaluate whether the surgeons' oxygen saturation of hemoglobin was affected by the surgical mask or not during major operations. Methods: Repeated measures, longitudinal and prospective observational study was performed on 53 surgeons using a pulse oximeter pre and postoperatively. Results: Our study revealed a decrease in the oxygen saturation of arterial pulsations (SpO2) and a slight increase in pulse rates compared to preoperative values in all surgeon groups. The decrease was more prominent in the surgeons aged over 35. Conclusions: Considering our findings, pulse rates of the surgeon's increase and SpO2 decrease after...

WASHINGTON, Monday, Aug. 12. The statement that Garibaldi has tendered his services to this Government through the State or any department, has no foundation in truth. JOHN BIGELOW was to-day appointed Consul to Paris. The visit of Mrs. LINCOLN to New-York is again postponed, this time to Wednesday morning. Col. PORTER, the Provost-Marshal to-day, arrested Hon. CHARLES J. FAULKNER late United States Minister to France. The order for his arrest was issued from the War Department. A heavy detachment of infantry accompanied the Provost-Marshal to guard against any disturbance that the arrest might prompt. Mr. FAULKNER promptly acknowledged the authority,...

“‘Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven’” (Matthew 6:20). The believer is to be generous in his giving. The early church was not interested in accumulating great wealth for itself. In Acts 2, for example, thousands of pilgrims gathered in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost. When Peter preached the gospel on that day, 3,000 persons became believers, and soon afterward thousands more were added to the church. The pilgrims who became believers didn’t want to return to their former homes since they were now part of the church. So the believers in Jerusalem had to absorb them. Since many...

I want to talk with you about the word ‘unrelenting.’ It means undiminished in intensity or effort, uncompromising. To be unrelenting is to stick to a determined course and to not be persuaded by arguments. Our Lord’s love is absolutely unrelenting. Nothing can hinder or diminish his loving pursuit of both sinners and saints. The Psalmist expressed it as “You have hedged me behind and before, and laid your hand upon me…. Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend into heaven, you are there; if I make my bed...

It doesn’t get more idiotic: “The Taliban also has to make an assessment about what they want their role to be in the international community,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said with a straight face Wednesday. Oh, and the State Department has sent diplomats to “press the Taliban to stop their military offensive and to negotiate a political settlement, which is the only path to stability and development in Afghanistan.” They’re also begging to have the US embassy in Kabul left alone, warning that future US aid is at risk — and so effectively promising that we’ll actually subsidize...

Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Ed Markey and other cosponsors of the Green New Deal voted this week to prohibit adoption of their own plan — while criticizing Senate Republicans for proposing a "sham" amendment to the budget reconciliation bill. Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming proposed an amendment to the Democrats' $3.5 trillion reconciliation package to "prohibit enactment of the Green New Deal." The measure passed 99-0, with yes votes from every U.S. senator present. Despite voting in favor of the amendment, Democratic senators said their $3.5 trillion reconciliation legislation will make the "largest investment in climate action in history." "The...

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism. “The likelihood that there’s going to be a Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely," Joe Biden claimed in July. He denied an intelligence assessment that the Afghan government would fall in six months. The current intelligence assessment is that the Taliban may take Afghanistan by September 11. Biden has been reduced to bribing the Taliban with foreign aid in exchange for a promise not to attack the United States embassy in...

The Dallas County District Attorney's office shared the disclosure, since it may impact some cases. It's possible...

On Monday, the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or the IPCC, ordered a "code red," releasing a "landmark" report warning that global warming was an existential threat to humanity, "unequivocally" blaming humans for the problem, and demanding rapid action to cut greenhouse-gas emissions. "What the IPCC told us is what President Biden has believed all along," White House press secretary Jen Psaki noted on Tuesday. "Climate change is an urgent threat that requires bold action." The very next day, the Biden administration released a statement imploring the OPEC cartel to increase production of oil to help lower worldwide gas...

The first duty of any state governor is to protect the health and safety of the citizenry. In that sense, the incredibly cynical and dangerous performative politics against pandemic safety being undertaken by some (though not all) Republican governors around America is nothing less than the abdication of their duty. This list includes Missouri Gov. Mike Parson, whose uneven messaging on masking and whose abetting of anti-vaccine paranoia (he falsely accused President Joe Biden of seeking to “compel” vaccinations) have helped give his state among the worst coronavirus resurgences in America. But the poster child for gubernatorial irresponsibility is Florida’s...

Will Gov. Gavin Newsom be the second Democratic California governor to be recalled and removed from office in this (or the last) century? Polls suggest that's one possible result of next month's recall election. If so, it would be a startling result. We have just seen the second consecutive Democrat elected governor of heavily Democratic (61% President Joe Biden) New York, in both cases for alleged sexual misconduct. It would be more politically significant for a second consecutive Democrat elected governor of even more heavily Democratic (63% Biden) California get the boot for policy reasons. Gray Davis, the governor who...

Pray For the Peace of JerusalemPsalm 133 A song of ascents. Of David. 1 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! 2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. 3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage) We Are Now In the Section of Psalms Called “The Songs of Ascents”..New International Version (NIV)...
