FIFTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME MATTHEW 12:1-8 Friends, again and again in the Gospels, Jesus is portrayed as violating the sacred command to rest on the seventh day. For example, he often cures on the Sabbath, much to the dismay of the protectors of Jewish law. And then in today’s Gospel, after his disciples pick grain on the Sabbath, Jesus declares himself “Lord of the Sabbath.” It’s hard to express how breathtaking this claim would be for a first-century Jew to make. Yahweh alone could be assigned the title “Lord of the Sabbath,” so what is Jesus implying? In short,...

Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said Friday on MSNBC’s “MTP Daily” that the Select Committee investigating the 1/6 Capitol riot is hoping some defendants being prosecuted by the Department of Justice will testify against Republican members of Congress and former President Donald Trump. Anchor Kasie Hunt said, “You’re chairman of the Select Committee, Bennie Thompson, has said publicly that there’s supposed to be a meeting between Select Committee Democrats and the Department of Justice to see how willing they are to cooperate with your investigation. Has that meeting happened yet?

Andrew Cuomo has used $285,000 of campaign funds to pay his legal bills in his fight against the sexual harassment allegations brought by multiple women, according to a report. Documents filed Friday with the state Board of Elections, and seen by the New York Post, reveal the New York governor paid lawyer Rita Glavin $111,774 on May 3 for 'professional services' after hiring her to defend him in the scandal. One month later on June 2, the governor paid out another $173,098 in campaign cash to her law firm - the very same day Cuomo told reporters political donations were...

“Let them die,” Fairfax County NAACP First Vice President Michelle Leete said about people against her leftist ideology during a speech to protesters at Luther Jackson Middle School Thursday evening. Parents and concerned citizens had gathered in Fairfax, Virginia, prior to a school board meeting to protest Fairfax County Public Schools teaching Critical Race Theory (CRT), while others had come to support CRT and the LGBT agenda in schools. It was the final meeting before the school board’s summer break. Leete spoke to supporters of CRT, saying: So let’s meet and remain steadfast, in speaking truth, tearing down double standards,...

During the recent Direct Line, when I was asked about Russian-Ukrainian relations, I said that Russians and Ukrainians were one people – a single whole. These words were not driven by some short-term considerations or prompted by the current political context. It is what I have said on numerous occasions and what I firmly believe. I therefore feel it necessary to explain my position in detail and share my assessments of today's situation. First of all, I would like to emphasize that the wall that has emerged in recent years between Russia and Ukraine, between the parts of what is...

A black Republican and former NAACP chapter president slammed Democrats’ divisive rhetoric demonizing all white people as oppressors and marginalizing all black people as victims. Ruth Edmonds, an ordained minister and congressional candidate in Ohio, said the left’s race-hustling narrative encourages a grievance-mongering mentality that ignores the key principles of self-actualization, such as hard work and personal responsibility. “Caucasians are not villains and they’re not oppressors,” Edmonds told Fox News host Tucker Carlson Thursday. “And brown-skinned people are not victims and we’re not oppressed.” The former president of the NAACP’s Columbus chapter is a self-professed patriot who unabashedly “loves the...

The Department of Energy is moving to reverse a Trump-era rule that rolled back water efficiency standards for showerheads, an administration official confirmed to CNN on Friday. The Trump-era showerhead rule took aim at the 2.5-gallon-per-minute maximum flow rate set by Congress in the 1990s. During the Obama administration, each showerhead in a fixture counted toward that limit collectively -- but the Energy Department under then-President Donald Trump moved to let each showerhead reach the 2.5-gallon-per-minute individually. The new proposal from President Joe Biden's administration would revert to the showerhead standards set by the Obama administration. The proposed action is...

“The FBI, as alleged, is being used by the Biden-Harris Justice Department as the administration’s and the left’s ‘personal Gestapo,’ to stifle free speech and dissent over the near total leftist, socialist and borderline communist takeover of our body politic. And, FBI Director Wray bears personal legal responsibility and liability for these unconstitutional acts, which he has bragged about in public testimony before Congress — branding the peaceful protestors as mostly white domestic terrorists — in order to save his job with President Biden after he was blamed for not being prepared for and warning Congress and the incoming Biden...

Nearly all Americans expect the inflation under Joe Biden’s presidency will worsen still, even as the cost of gas and used cars is already up by 45 percent, and bacon up by 8.4 percent, the Washington Examiner reported Thursday. “The hashtag #Bidenflation has been trending recently,” wrote Washington Secrets columnist Paul Bedard, noting a new survey from Skynova, an online invoicing firm that found 88 percent of people in the United States believe the current inflation is “here to stay and will soar more.” Here are the items really driving up inflation:Car rental 87.7% (y/y change) Used cars 45.2% Gas...

"On March 11th, he said that 37,000 queries or logins happened in one day. That is off the charts as far as internet traffic into that system. Well why were they doing that? Because the system was set at 5mb and basically it means that every time a query that comes in new the oldest query drops off. That's evidence of a nefarious actor trying to eliminate evidence that goes all the way back to election day. Because now as far as they can go back is March 11th. So they have essentially just cleaned that part of the election...

Amid staggering rise in monthly homicides, Chicago's hapless mayor implores for all the help she can get We knew that Chicago gangs couldn't keep up the torrid pace of the first week of July – four murders per day. After all, they are only mortal, subject to the same frailties of most of humanity. You know, like Police Officers being forced to work twelve-hour-days for weeks on end, oftentimes not knowing until the very end of their shift when the clueless "leadership" sends out an e-mail – SURPRISE! – you're being held over for four more hours. We're sure that...

It is not official yet but I am hearing that Canadian politicians are discussing the possibility that the US-Canada border may reopen to non-essential travelers with the Canadian position being that it should be open to fully vaccinated U.S. citizens wanting to visit Canada. Not sure what the U.S. position is on this. There was to be an announcement soon as the border closure formally ends July 21st. A one-month extension is expected but after August 21st there may be some limited travel possible. I know there are some people affected by the border closure because of the land access...

As freedom fighters have taken to the streets across Cuba, the Marxist Black Lives Matter organization blamed the United States for the protests, defending the communist government in Havana. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), the son of Cuban immigrants, offered to help the Marxists move to Cuba, if they think it’s so peachy. “Black Lives Matter condemns the U.S. federal government’s inhumane treatment of Cubans, and urges it to immediately lift the economic embargo,” the Black Lives Matter statement began. “This cruel and inhumane policy, instituted with the explicit intention of destabilizing the country and undermining Cubans’ right to choose their...

A Turkish vessel fired warning shots at a Cypriot coastguard boat that was on patrol near the port of Kato Pyrgos, on the northwest coast of the contested island, Cypriot media has reported. The shots were fired at 3.30 a.m. local time, the Cypriot news agency reported, just west of the line that divides the Republic of Cyprus from the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Euronews has reached out to the Cypriot authorities for confirmation. An advisor to Northern Cyprus's foreign minister's adviser told Euronews: "There is no such incident. It did not happen. This is a lie."...

If I hadn’t left the Democratic Party years ago, I would leave it now. Their namby-pamby, lip-service reaction to the uprising of the Cuban people against 62 years of brutal communist oppression is shameful beyond words. Apparently, the protests are a bit inconvenient for them. AOC might be embarrassed if they said or did anything, not to mention Bernie. That Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned Cuban refugees not to come (while the border is open to practically everybody else, from Houthis to extra-terrestrials) put the capper on it. The Coast Guard has evidently already been alerted not to allow...

President Biden’s adviser Susan Rice is being ordered to sell a $2.7 million stake in the oil pipeline company Enbridge — after the Biden administration decided to allow the firm’s Line 3 pipeline project. The Office of Government Ethics ordered Rice to divest from the company on July 9, according to filings first reported by Fox Business. Although Biden has broadly taken action against oil pipelines, most notably canceling the Keystone XL oil pipeline, his administration has continued to allow the Line 3 project, which would bring Canadian oil through Minnesota to Wisconsin. Environmental activists oppose the Line 3 project,...

Astronomers have spotted a star whose shape indicates it will one day be consumed as fuel so a neighbor can become a supernova. The pair are only 1,500 light-years away, so the view from Earth will be spectacular when the explosion occurs. However, at an estimated 70 million years to ignition, there is no guarantee there will be anyone here to watch it. Astronomers find proto-supernovas all the time. Any star with a mass of more than eight times the Sun will end its life in an enormous explosion, with Betelgeuse being the most famous example. However, these are core...

When I was researching an article posting I did a couple of days ago, I happened upon this source: BikePortland. It's interesting because it contains candid discussions between members of the Portland "bike" community, all of whom are very far to the left but most of whom are quite articulate and willing to express themselves. Also, if you look at the various pictures of biker gatherings that are posted in the, it is impossible not to notice the very high percentage of members of one ... ah ... particular ... so to speak ... ethnic group. This despite lots of...
