It is not official yet but I am hearing that Canadian politicians are discussing the possibility that the US-Canada border may reopen to non-essential travelers with the Canadian position being that it should be open to fully vaccinated U.S. citizens wanting to visit Canada.
Not sure what the U.S. position is on this.
There was to be an announcement soon as the border closure formally ends July 21st. A one-month extension is expected but after August 21st there may be some limited travel possible.
I know there are some people affected by the border closure because of the land access to Alaska, and of course in normal times there are large flows of ordinary folk crossing the border in both directions. Some border communities in America have economies that are substantially geared towards Canadian day trippers shopping for bargains (including your now somewhat cheaper gasoline). That would include Whatcom county in northwest WA. The community of Point Roberts WA where land travel requires a border crossing has been badly affected by the closure, with people finding it difficult to get through to medical appointments in bigger towns in Washington state. That's a fairly small population otherwise maybe they would have ferry travel to Bellingham but now I guess you need to go by private boat or have the medical papers in place to get across the border (twice).
This is creating a dilemma for me and my spouse. We are philosophically opposed to the vaccinations and at the same time would love to visit the desert later this year, so we'll have to decide if we want to take the unwanted jab, or wait them out for a relaxation of the policy.
Our news coverage suggests lower vaccination rates in the U.S. than Canada and higher hospital admission rates in border states. Not sure whether this is really true or some sort of agitprop, but the COVID rates supposedly have dropped off markedly in British Columbia with only a handful of recent hospital admissions. Our vaccination rates are something like 45% with two jabs and 80% with the first jab. (suckers)
Like we all can’t wait to fly to a cold socialist country where the people suck.
Vermont isn’t all that cold is it?
I hope you do not relent. I don't see how this is enforceable, especially if you can "identify" as having gotten it.
How are border officers or people in CA gonna know if you got it? In this day and age of HIPPA. And, what if you've gotten this.... remarkable "flu" itself? Then, in-theory, you are immune and don't need, nay, should not even get a jab.
Just presume you were one of those non-symptomatic COVID sufferers, and have immunity.
Shouldn’t we [the US] find out if Trudeau is Castro’s kid or not first?
After all the BiXiden regime doesn’t want any Cubans to be crossing our border.
Jamie, don’t do it!
I assume they will be looking at proof of vaccination documents like vaccine passports (as yet they do not exist in either country do they?) ... and yes I am inclined not to relent. But being in my 70s there is the natural pressure of running out of time to visit a favorite location.
By the way this applies to road travel, you can already fly from one country to the other under certain conditions. The road borders are closed to all but essential travel (as defined by the governments).
Lift Tickets used to be cheaper than in the
US.
There's another reason to avoid the jab like the plague. (it literally is a plague). Especially, the 2nd one... it's a doozey I hear.
Get some Ivermectin or HCQ. Maybe between now and then you'll have and get over COVID, and be immune.

Maybe it’s a dice roll but my wife and I have had both shots
back in Jan/Feb of this year. No problems. Our daughter had
hers afterward and no problems. I guess it impacts people in
differing ways.
Its the variants, run for your lives.....
Trudeau , only formal training : drama teacher, in black face:
You could just go to Alberta where they made Texans look tame.
Or stay home and miss these mountains, up to you heh.
I pray you never need to learn about cytokine storms.
Good news.
And what of those inoculated by actually contacting & recovering from Covid?
Didn’t think so. All hail the talisman of The Vaccine. Morons.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Most pushing The Vaccine believe in magic, and call it “Science!”.
A few years ago we went to Guadeloupe and got friendly with a guy from Alberta. When describing the province he said that Alberta is Canada’s Texas.
I pray you never need to learn about cytokine storms.

I pray also but life goes on until we’re called. I hope to
avoid an accident each time I get in an auto. I hope the boat
don’t sink when I’m a few miles off shore. I hope the plane
doesn’t fail when we are 30,000 ft up. We live till we die.
However that may be.
