U.S. job openings rose in April to a fresh record high, along with the number of people who voluntarily left their jobs, underscoring fervent labor demand and turnover as businesses emerge from pandemic-related restrictions and the economy strengthens. The number of available positions climbed to 9.3 million during the month, the highest on data back to 2000, from an upwardly revised 8.3 million in March, the Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, showed Tuesday. The increase in vacancies was broad. The number of people who voluntarily left their jobs increased to 4 million in April, while...

[Catholic Caucus] The Enemies of Mass “Are Going to War Again”The decision of Dijon Archbishop Roland Minnerath, 74, France, to kill his Roman Rite community is not that of a pastor who governs his diocese like a father, Raymond Pierre an expert on the situation in Dijon told Paix-Liturgique.com.He calls Minnerath “a ‘classic’ bishop who is rather conservative.” For Pierre, this was not Minnerath’s decision who has been in Dijon since 2004 and could have killed the group a long time ago. What happened in Dijon is a trial run, Pierre believes. If it is successful, the enemies of the...

Investors were thrilled that the company had developed a solid coronavirus vaccine candidate, but were then shocked by its logistical problems. Is now the time to buy the dip? What happened? When one evil empire falls, another will inevitably rise to fill its place. I have worked in the American conservative movement for decades, and for part of that time I had the immense privilege to work for---and to know---Ronald Reagan. I had a front row seat to Reagan’s historic efforts to win the Cold War, and we remember well the day the Evil Empire that was the Soviet Union collapsed thanks to Reagan and like-minded world leader like Pop John Paul II and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Reagan won the Cold War through action, the power of the pulpit,...

At least 16.9 million of the masks were distributed for use in hospitals and pharmacies in 2020. They are rated FFP2, contain ‘biomass graphene’, and were manufactured by a Chinese company At least 60.5 million face masks rated as FFP2 and distributed to health workers should no longer be worn to protect against Covid, as inhaling their particles could be toxic for the lungs, health authority Santé publique France (SPF) has said. The masks, rated FFP2, contain “biomass graphene”, and should no longer be worn as they can cause respiratory issues, the authority said. The masks are being recalled from...

Did we ever need masks? It’s a touchy, complex question. People may not want to learn that millions of us covered our faces for 15 months for no good reason after all. But asking the questions is exactly what we must do. Last week, a trove of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s emails were released to the public. In a Feb. 5, 2020, email to a Team Obama health official, the virus guru wrote that masks were for infected people, and that “the typical mask you buy in a drug store is not really effective in keeping out the virus, which is...

On this date in 1953, Istvan Sandor was hanged in Communist Hungary. Sandor was a printer noted as a mentor to younger Catholics — including the orphanage that shared his print-shop’s building. When his Salesian order was suppressed in 1950, Sandor had to continue this work underground, practically inviting martyrdom. At one point his superiors in the order urged him to flee Hungary; Sandor stubbornly stuck around under an alias. This shadow existence was bound to be a fleeting one. The Hungarian secret police kept close tabs on him, and when it found that he was in contact with a...

The Quebec government is asking school boards, daycares and health networks to stop using a type of mask that Health Canada warned can be toxic to the lungs. People have even been asked to "immediately store the boxes of masks in a secure and isolated location" after the alarming warning. The grey and blue masks are identified by the code SNN200642 and are from the supplier Metallifer, the province said. According to a statement provided to CTV News, the province distributed 30.6 million SNN200642 masks to networks under the ministry of family, education and higher education. Since January, the province...

The visit to the Tain-Hermitage school, which specializes in the restaurant industry, came on the eve of the French government lifting restrictions on indoor dining and other measures implemented during the coronavirus pandemic. Macron was scheduled to meet with restaurant industry representatives, NBC reported. Video of the incident shows Macron, wearing a black mask, approaching a crowd of people standing on the other side of a partition. Macron appears to pat the forearm of the closest person in the crowd, who is clad in a green T-shirt and a white mask. As Marcon looks to be moving down the line...

More than 800 suspected criminals have been arrested worldwide after being tricked into using an FBI-run encrypted messaging app, officials say. The operation, jointly conceived by Australia and the FBI, saw devices with the ANOM app secretly distributed among criminals, allowing police to monitor their chats about drug smuggling, money laundering and even murder plots. Officials called it a watershed moment. Targets included drug gangs and people with links to the mafia. Drugs, weapons, luxury vehicles and cash were also seized in the operation, which was conducted across more than a dozen countries. This included eight tons of cocaine, 250...

In the middle of a firestorm over Critical Race Theory, the general counsel’s office for the Palm Beach County School board, in an unprecedented move, emailed pro-Black Lives Matter talking points to school board members. Critics questioned the ethics of the decision, noting that the purpose of the board’s general counsel is to provide legal advice and defend its actions, not offer political or policy guidance on issues to elected officials. The document from the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, “Talking Points on Anti-Semitism and Black Lives Matter,” contains several statements suggesting that the BLM organization as a whole is...
