More than 800 suspected criminals have been arrested worldwide after being tricked into using an FBI-run encrypted messaging app, officials say.

The operation, jointly conceived by Australia and the FBI, saw devices with the ANOM app secretly distributed among criminals, allowing police to monitor their chats about drug smuggling, money laundering and even murder plots.

Officials called it a watershed moment.

Targets included drug gangs and people with links to the mafia.

Drugs, weapons, luxury vehicles and cash were also seized in the operation, which was conducted across more than a dozen countries. This included eight tons of cocaine, 250 guns and more than $48m (£34m) in various worldwide currencies and cryptocurrencies.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the operation had "struck a heavy blow against organised crime" around the world.

Most interesting. Here on FR, we often picture the FBI as a bunch of rule-following, do-nothing bureaucrats who are constantly outwitted by clever criminals. It looks like they finally smartened up, and found a clever way to catch a lot of criminals.

Don't worry, though, the vacant positions in the crime world will soon be filled. Unlike legitimate jobs, there are a lot of highly qualified applicants eager to take the positions,

I'll bet most of the work was done by the Aussies. The FIB was just there to grab the glory.

Australia?

Because we don’t have criminals in the U.S. such as Antifa or BLM that we can’t go after.

Not: If they were rule following, Biden son and Hillary would be in jail. Trump would still be President.

The only part the FBI was involved in was insuring their dem affiliates weren’t given the app.

That’s not how I would describe Strzok, Page, Clinesmith, Freeh, and many others.

BBC report that makes the FBI look like actual law enforcment. I don’t buy it. BBC is as questionable as PBS and we all know what the FBI is. I suspect they arrested a bunch of political dissedents and will hold them as long as possible until some judge releases them. At that point, every thing will be swept down the memory hole. except the people arrested will have learned to keep their mouths shut or face the conquences.

I would be careful all you new Brave users, do not think that using TOR will keep you private.

They have scrub the interweb of the fact that most nodes are NSA.

Someone who has a profound distrust of government and its armed enforcement branches is likely to ask how many people were accused of a crime for simply using the app?

To: I want the USA back

It is not an app, it is a complete customized phone that you could only get if you had criminal contacts.

The problem isn’t that they are stupid. It’s that they are on the side of the enemy. They are probably using Signal or something like that right now to monitor Trump supporters.

Obviously, the fbi reluctantly went along with the Australian operation, but with provisions to protect their many partners in crime.

But they’ll keep the money.

“Drugs, weapons, luxury vehicles and cash were also seized in the operation”

The main motivation. The people arrested are already replaced and drugs are flowing as ever. The LEs know this. But they get to take cool cars home and buy swimming pools now.

Yup.

I view all Democrats in government positions (Moles) waiting for orders to do crimes to advance the socialist agenda.

What was it, Tik Tok, What's App, FB messaging, Twitter?

The FBI worker bees are fine.

It is the politically appointed bosses and long serving senior bureaucrats that are the traitors and criminals.
