  • Convicting Derek Chauvin was a 'no-brainer' says juror

Finding Derek Chauvin guilty of murdering George Floyd was a "no-brainer", one of the jurors in the trial has said. Brandon Mitchell said he and the 11 other jurors could have completed their deliberations within the 10 hours they actually took - and might have finished in just 60 minutes. They did not need much thinking time, the 31-year-old high school basketball coach added. "For the most part, we did go in and come straight out," he told NBC's Today. The jury was unanimous in finding Chauvin guilty last week. The former police officer could now spend decades in jail.

When I began my “war on standards” series many years ago, I recognized that the left was trying to tear down core standards of behavior and merit for no other reason than the fact that one racial group was failing, disproportionately, to meet them. I expected the rot to spread far and wide, and it has — to the detriment of society. However, I never thought it would spread to an attack on the standard against knife fights. Yet, that now has happened, following the fatal shooting of a black teenage girl who attacked another black teenage girl with a...

"This picture is technically outstanding in its use of light and composition," awards founder and director Caroline Kenyon says. "But what raises it to the level of historic importance is the depth of its storytelling and emotion. "It tells of a year of isolation and living indoors, living in tiny communities of immediate family. "Here, the scene is bathed with love, with echoes of Madonna and Child. "An exceptional shot which perfectly demonstrates that photography need not shock or disturb to be great or memorable. "This exquisite image lingers in the mind," With the competition now in its 10th year,...

WASHINGTON — Former Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, shocked the country when he announced his resignation from Congress in 2015 and in a recent interview, he recounted how the historic visit of Pope Francis to the U.S. Capitol accelerated his decision to step down. In an April 25 interview by Punchbowl News on his recently-published memoir, On the House, Boehner explained that he had considered retiring from Congress since before the 2014 elections. He had served in Congress for nearly 24 years at that point, including almost four years as House Speaker, a length of time which he...

April 28 is the feast day of Saint Vitalis, an ancient Roman martyr about whom very little is known. The summary of his life from Butler's Lives of the Saints contains much of what is known and can reasonably be speculated about Saint Vitalis: Saint Vitalis is honored as the principal patron of the city of Ravenna, in which he glorified God by martyrdom in the persecution of Nero. He was a citizen of Milan, and is said in his acts to have been the father of SS. Gervasius and Protasius. The divine providence conducted him to Ravenna, where he...

The effort by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s office to obscure the pandemic death toll in New York nursing homes was far greater than previously known, with aides repeatedly overruling state health officials over a span of at least five months, according to interviews and newly unearthed documents. Mr. Cuomo’s most senior aides engaged in a sustained effort to prevent the state’s own health officials, including the commissioner, Howard Zucker, from releasing the true death toll to the public or sharing it with state lawmakers, these interviews and documents showed. A scientific paper, which incorporated the data, was never published. An...

Also reportedly gone are links to the late Rush Limbaugh’s site and columnist David Limbaugh. Infowars and ZeroHedge survived the purge, however one report observed ZeroHedge was delisted for a time this week. The 1700s were a time of radical reform, and as the Enlightenment reached the shores of Denmark, it suddenly became possible to be a professed atheist and not lose your head. That is, of course, as long as you didn’t also try to usurp the crown, undermine the aristocracy, and agitate the commoners while you were at it. Struensee on this date in 1772. His friend and sometime cohort Enevold Brandt (Danish Wikipedia entry) was put on the block on the same day. Struensee was born in 1738 in present day Germany and educated in Prussia, a doctor by trade...

Earlier on Tuesday, the Post temporarily deleted Italiano's two stories on the topic and republished altered versions hours later with editor's notes. White ESPN announcer Max Kellerman is suggesting NFL teams' scouts and top brass are racist when it comes to drafting a Black quarterback, despite some noting the top 4 highest-paid players are all Black quarterbacks. Kellerman said it is on his "radar" the projected top three picks in Thursday's NFL Draft are white quarterbacks, despite a pair of Black quarterback prospects being candidates to be drafted early, too. "I know it's on my radar," the "First Take" co-host said. "Sometimes quarterbacks rise, sometimes they fall, but what I've noticed, in recent years after decades of artificial barriers being put in...

It seems there are many personal stories of vaccine injuries being shared throughout many threads across the platform by fellow Freepers. Let’s try to use this one thread to organize and analyze them. Perhaps the results will surprise people who fall on both sides of the aisle. Let’s not use this thread as a place to debate either side of whether people should be vaccinated or not. 1. Describe your close relationship with the person who had the side effects and/or symptoms from the vaccine - e.g. family member and/or personal friend (you must exclude people you don’t know personally...

A growing number of black leaders across the U.S. are backing the requirement of voter ID and rejecting President Joe Biden and other Democrats' claims that election integrity efforts like Georgia's voter ID law hearken back to the days of the "Jim Crow" era. Voters nationwide overwhelmingly support voter ID efforts. As CBN News reported, a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted earlier this month found 62 percent of Americans feel ID requirements don't discriminate. Democrats hold up the Georgia voting law as "exhibit A" in what they claim to be voter suppression. President Biden even called it "Jim Crow on steroids,"...

Can People In Hawaii Stop Wearing Masks Outdoors? Not Yet The CDC updated its guidance to say fully vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks outdoors except among crowds of strangers, but the state hasn’t changed its rules. Hawaii officials are reviewing whether to change local mask mandates after the easing of federal COVID-19 guidelines to suggest that fully vaccinated people may forgo face coverings in most outdoor scenarios. Hawaii currently requires that people cover their nose and mouth in public and when near people who don’t live with them, according to an emergency proclamation from Gov. David Ige aimed...
