WASHINGTON — Former Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, shocked the country when he announced his resignation from Congress in 2015 and in a recent interview, he recounted how the historic visit of Pope Francis to the U.S. Capitol accelerated his decision to step down.
In an April 25 interview by Punchbowl News on his recently-published memoir, On the House, Boehner explained that he had considered retiring from Congress since before the 2014 elections. He had served in Congress for nearly 24 years at that point, including almost four years as House Speaker, a length of time which he had not planned to exceed in the position.

"his dream was realized when Pope Francis delivered the first-ever papal address to a joint session of Congress, during his visit to the United States. Boehner was visibly emotional and cried during parts of the address."
Maybe it was just BAD WHISKEY??
So much can be said about “LIQUID LUNCHES!”
He cried at everything
Especially when the ice melted in his cocktail tumbler
Wow, Bergoglio actually did something good.
He spoke to over 500 of the most powerful people in the world and never once mentioned the Gospel.
There seems to be a pattern with the comments on this thread
So contrary to Catholic arguments the Pope DOES INFLUENCE U.S. politics ... Protestants are owed an apology.
Sounds like Boner got into the sacramental wine a time or two.
Oh, I can only imagine Boehner’s crying in the Pope’s presence. Verklempt was his middle name. At that time, he (Boehner) seemed to be only one or two words away from the next crying jag.
His hypersensitivity was alarming. “What’s wrong with John?”
This was when the GOP needed somebody tough enough to slow down or divert Obama and his progressive agenda.
I recall Joy on The View called him “Weeper of The House”.
It was grimly amusing, because that was indeed the appearance. I hope he received professional help for that issue.
Weeper of the House.
I wasn’t shocked when he resigned, I was relieved. Boner was almost as bad as Ryan. Both GOP scum.
For the same reason that I wouldn't lecture to these people on astrophysics. I know nothing about it.
That’s it? He finally got the Pope to visit so he could quit? Too bad he didn’t get a papal visit a lot sooner.
Does any conservative on FR actually give two hoots about this perpetually drunk yob?
And now he’s hawking cannabis. Go figure...
“Maybe it was just BAD WHISKEY??”
LOL
The pope had “the goods” on Boehner. I wonder if Boehner was once a Catholic priest or maybe just a Catholic.
