Axel Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner sat down with former US Secretary of State and long-time diplomat Henry Kissinger. They discussed the pandemic's effects on global politics, China's rise as a world power, and the future of the European Union... Kissinger: In this country, the majority of people have had health and safety concerns that they've never experienced before. And they have been very occupied with maintaining a lifestyle that they used to take for granted. At the same time, there are groups who are systematically urging a new governmental and national philosophy. And while they are not the majority or...

Explanation: Why isn't this ant a big sphere? Planetary nebula Mz3 is being cast off by a star similar to our Sun that is, surely, round. Why then would the gas that is streaming away create an ant-shaped nebula that is distinctly not round? Clues might include the high 1000-kilometer per second speed of the expelled gas, the light-year long length of the structure, and the magnetism of the star featured here at the nebula's center. One possible answer is that Mz3 is hiding a second, dimmer star that orbits close in to the bright star. A competing hypothesis holds...

---SNIP--- Haverford students on strike after college officials' comments on Walter Wallace Jr.'s deathFor Haverford, an institution rich in liberal and Quaker ideals, the strike posed unprecedented challenges: How to balance concerns of Black students hurting badly amid a national reckoning over race with its obligation to provide an education for which many families pay more than $75,000 annually? How to deal with charges of bullying among young adults, while not silencing anger and protest? How to reconcile a campus divided not over the desire to end racism but over the strike itself, and how it was handled by school...

Minneapolis will be getting a woke police force if changes in police recruiting are rammed through the city government. Due to defunding, retirements, resignations, removal of qualified immunity, aggressive DA actions and police demoralization, recruiting for new police has been very difficult. The city is now considering a radical new plan to recruit ANTIFA and BLM members into the police force. There is an immediate advantage as these people are woke and will be welcomed by the communities. Additionally, since they are woke, there will be no violent confrontations with their former looter and rioter fellows. The DA's job will...

On MSNBC, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH) argued that police officers “could shoot in the air” and that “Teachers go and break up fights with knives every day.” Beatty said, “We have to have a better way of de-escalating. Here is an occurrence where the police knew they were coming with two girls fighting — or a girl and two adults fighting. You can’t say that you are trained to only shoot to the center of the body. Four shots, I mean, come on, the first shot would knock the knife, a kitchen knife to the ground....

Iranian eyes will be on Washington this week while looking over their shoulder at home. The Iranians are looking over their shoulder because a series of attacks attributed to them and their puppets in the Middle East are targeting Israeli commercial ships and firing rockets at Israel from Gaza and Syria. This is coupled with Israel’s reported retaliation against Iranian military ships, and explosion deep underneath an Iranian nuclear facility, raising eyebrows as to Israel’s reach and Iranian vulnerability. Iranians are eying Washington this week as the Mossad director, Yossi Cohen, and Israeli National Security Advisor, Meir Ben-Shabbat, will be...

It may be the largest fraud case in U.S. history — perhaps world history as well, although the oil-for-food scandal engineered by Saddam Hussein in the 1990s would give the Golden State fleecing of the unemployment system a run for its money. The stupendous size of the unemployment claims scandal in California is purely the result of incompetence. Individuals, criminal gangs, hackers, and state actors siphoned as much as $31 billion away from the California government. It was a free-for-all that even had criminals locked away in California prisons stealing billions of dollars right under the noses of the guards....

Harris has been to California and other states, but says "COVID issues" prevent her from visiting the border "The kind of work that has to happen is the diplomatic work that we have been engaged in, including my calls to the president of Mexico, the president of Guatemala," Harris said on CNN's "State of the Union." "But it's not going to be solved overnight. It's a complex issue. Listen, if this were easy, it would have been handled years ago." "This is about the Western Hemisphere. We are a neighbor in the Western Hemisphere, and it is also about understanding...

Iran’s Armed Forces chief Mohammad Bagheri on Sunday threatened to “teach Israel a very good lesson,” appearing to hint the Jewish state was behind a reported attack on an Iranian tanker off Syria’s coast over the weekend, but stopping short of blaming Jerusalem directly for the incident. Bagheri told reporters: “We don’t announce anything about the incidents that happened recently, nor do we know who did it, but the Resistance Front will teach Israel a very good lesson,” according to several Iranian journalists. “Israelis think they can keep hitting Syria and making mischievous moves elsewhere and in the seas and...

Raise your hand if you’re fed up with people on social media posting stories on Instagram or tweets on Twitter that seem to immediately virtue signal the moment news of another shooting occurs.Me too!Especially when the level of information about the alleged victim is thoroughly unknown—minus some baby picture—the media mysteriously has its hands on usually within what seems like only seconds after the incident. The unspoken assumption in it all is that these woke—usually white suburban females—who literally know next to nothing about the difficulty of police work in troubled neighborhoods—are trying to “out-care” the “hardened” hearts of everyone who...

As we wrote earlier, Kamala Harris doesn’t seem to have done much to deal with the border crisis since she was given her commission about a month ago. The White House insisted afterward that she was just supposed to be dealing with the “root causes.” But she hasn’t seemed to have done anything with regard to those either and no one seems to be doing anything to address the present crisis. Harris does plan to talk to the Mexican president on May 7 about extending a program of planting trees to Central America. I’m sure that will stop the folks...
