Our home Outlook has stopped sending email. Using a Mac. Suggestions on a new and secure email program, anybody? email is xxx@sbcglobal.net if it matters.
I was using Outlook 2016, but I uninstall it and went back to Outlook 2010. I just can’t stand where MicroThief is taking their software to.
MS has instituted a new Authentication Code security...whether you like it or not.
It fixed mine about a week ago.
Apple “Mail” works well for me. At least as secure as Outlook, I’m sure.
protonmail
I heard Erol’s is pretty good.
I’m running thunderbird on mac.
Has the outgoing port changed? Or has your ISP changed their incoming port encryption protocol?
Use Mail instead.
Same here. I just checked and mine is working fine.
Not likely to be the Outlook program itself but rather a configuration issue with your email provider. I would check with them to see if they instituted a protocol change.
oAuth (Open Authentication) is an Internet standard for logging in. It needs a change in email software like Outlook as well as the mail host. Many mail hosts have switched to oAuth, the latest is AT&T. Past Outlooks 2016, 2013, 2010 etc. don’t know about Open Authentication. The workaround is to use what ATT calls a ‘Secure Mail Key’ (it goes under many names like App Password -- whatever it’s called, it’s the same thing.).
Do you use a desktop program or a mobile app to access and manage your AT&T email? If so, we suggest you use one with Open Authentication (OAuth) technology, which encrypts your username and password. Learn about OAuth and find out if your app uses OAuth.
If your email program or app doesn’t have OAuth technology, it will only be able to access your AT&T email program or app using a 16-character secure mail key. Be sure to use myAT&T to create a secure mail key for each of your AT&T email addresses and subaccounts, so you can continue to: Access your AT&T email with your favorite email apps Synchronize other account info, such as your calendar and contacts, to your email app
I can receive mail with outlook, but can’t send. It is very frustrating having to use Frontier Yahoo.
My Outlook 2016 stopped working about 1.5 weeks ago. Since you also have an AT&T type email I am pretty sure it is the change AT&T made to go with a secure mail key instead of a password.
Go to MyATT
- Manage profile
- Manage secure mail key
Allow website to generate your key and then paste it in password field of Outlook. At least this is what fixed my problem.
AT&T had sent our an email about going to this secure mail key quite a while back and I guess they finally made it mandatory.
Good luck.
You didn’t happen to just install a vpn on your system did you?
I have some outlook email addresses(for win 10 installs) that I have in Thunderbird
Spark works well across many devices.
Outlook will stop sending if your profile is corrupted. Deleting and recreating the profile usually solves the problem. This had always worked on Windoze machines, I’ve never tried it on a Apple/Mac.
I like my Earthlink. You can get their email capability without having to have their internet service. If you pay in 1 payment, it’s $40/year. The Xfinity email program is far beyond stupid AND frustrating, absolutely a disaster.
If you can receive mail but not send it, it is more than likely the outgoing port or SSL is not set correctly. Check your mail provider for the correct settings. They usually post those on their website.
