ANDERSON — A local woman who accepted the challenge when friends dared her to shatter the glass at the Madison County Sheriff’s Department is now facing criminal charges. Billie Jo Goodnight, 42, 1300 block of Pearl Street, is charged with Level 6 felony charges of intimidation and criminal mischief. During her initial court appearance on Monday Goodnight was granted a pretrial release by Criminal Magistrate Kevin Eads. “Somebody had me thrown into jail,” she said. Michigan, under the leadership of Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, topped the U.S. daily tally of new coronavirus cases this week despite standing as a blue state with a mask mandate firmly in place. The state reported a record number of new cases on Monday, 11,082. The figure bests its last daily peak, 10,140, which it hit months ago on November 20. The state has reported roughly 780,000 cumulative cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic.

On April 6 Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order restricting state agencies or political subdivisions from creating COVID-19 passports, or any other ‘receipt’ detailing an individual’s vaccination status. The order also prohibits organizations receiving public funds from requiring consumers to provide documentation of vaccine status in order to receive any service or enter any place. “Everyday, Texans are returning to normal life as more people get the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine. But, as I’ve said all along, these vaccines are always voluntary and never forced,” said Abbott.

A three-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was shot while riding in a car near Grant Park on Tuesday morning, police said. Several witnesses reported seeing a man get out of a dark blue car and open fire during an altercation in the traffic lanes of Lake Shore Drive around 11:07 a.m. Shell casings were found on Lake Shore Drive just north of Roosevelt. A 74-year-old woman was arrested Saturday for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report. Deborah Ellen McCauley was taken into custody at 5:47 p.m. According to the booking report, deputies responded to a Viking Way address after an open 911 call was made to dispatch where a woman was heard yelling in the background. Surveillance photos show the unhinged customer leaning through the Memphis fast-food joint’s open window while brandishing a black handgun.
