The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack...

While Washington, D.C. was riveted Jan. 6 on events at the U.S. Capitol, the FBI quietly released a trove of files from an "urgent" — yet seemingly controlled — investigation 60 years ago into Nancy Pelosi's father.

President Joe Biden regularly touts his Catholic faith despite advancing a policy agenda deeply unpopular with religious Americans. He has now nominated the co-chair of Catholics for Biden, California attorney general Xavier Becerra, to be his secretary of Health and Human Services. Catholics tempted to welcome this nomination may be surprised by Becerra's record.

You have to see it to believe it.Peter DeBoer said those words after the Vegas Golden Knights coach put the team through a fun, spirited pregame practice Friday on the NHL's makeshift rink built atop the 18th fairway at Edgewood Tahoe Resort, a slap shot away from Lake Tahoe with the Sierra Nevada in the distance. "I think the pictures, as beautiful as they are, don't do it justice," DeBoer said. "I grew up in Canada and I know anywhere in the Northeast of the United States or Minnesota, anywhere they can build outdoor rinks, there's always a competition on...

A bubonic plague outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has seen several dozen people succumb to the long-feared disease, which caused Europe’s Black Death pandemic in the 14th century. Multiple cases of the plague were identified in the Biringi area of Ituri Province in northeastern DR Congo between November 15 and December 13, Anne Laudisoit of New York-based NGO, Ecohealth Alliance, told AFP. At least 520 people have become ill and “more than 31” of them have died, Ituri Health Minister Patrick Karamura told the outlet. The vast majority of cases involved bubonic plague, with the exception of five...

... Engineering challenges can be solved, but the real menace is an unwillingness, expressed through politics, to pay for the greenhouse reductions we say we want. Power lines are unwelcome. Solar arrays and wind farms are not everybody’s idea of pretty and so must be located in unpopulated areas. Batteries can’t yet cure an intermittency problem, leaving only conventional plants. Coal is the worst of greenhouse offenders, gas is better and yet still opposed by greens, and forget about nuclear. Texans had a rough week, say it again, because of an outlier cold snap that its system was designed to...

In this "Dark Winter," I suggest a fun little exercise. Let's collectively write a novel, ONLY using dialogue from movies. Only rule: You must quote the dialogue correctly and source it (i.e., "Wizard of Oz," 1939). Now, I'm NOT going to start this. I will leave it to a brave Freeper to begin. However, Brave Freeper #1, remember that whatever foundation you lay, almost everyone is going to be constrained by that. . . at least at first. That said, fire away.

“Fool me once,” Stephen King wrote, “shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, shame on both of us.” His adage certainly applies to the myth (and fake math) of green jobs. During the 2020 election campaign, Joe Biden asserted that more than 3 million Americans are already “employed in the clean energy economy.” He then boasted that, “if executed strategically, our response to climate change can create more than 10 million well-paying jobs in the United States that will grow a stronger, more inclusive middle class … and not just in cities along the...

One of the costs of a censorious society is clarity of writing, and consequently of thought. If one must write, evasive thinking is an easier way to dodge cancellation than purely evasive writing. “Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man.” That’s Francis Bacon, and probably the best thing he wrote (unless it’s The Tempest after all). The act of writing is exacting, and it improves with the care and precision of the effort. But this means—as illustrated by the hubbub around the New York Times’s treatment of Scott Alexander, the pseudonymous blogger behind...

It’s just the flu, bro. https://youtu.be/jlSWqJwtGoE Yesterday we posted that cases were plummeting. This is normally good news. But the MSM says that any differentials in infections between various groups of people is a cause for concern. In this article they talk about the children and in a future article they will discuss how women and minorities are “hardest hit”. - https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3936190/posts Lehigh university students face punishment for “COVID party”. It is good to see young people embracing freedom and liberty and not getting sucked into the wokeness associated with thinking that social distancing and masks among young people does...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., raised more than $2 million for relief efforts in Texas as of Friday afternoon before traveling to Houston to help in the recovery effort. “Charity isn’t always a replacement for good governance, but we won’t turn away from helping people in need when things hit the fan,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. The funds raised by the progressive lawmaker will go toward 12 food banks and relief organizations, including the Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, Ending Community Homelessness Coalition, Family Eldercare, Feeding Texas and the Houston Food Bank, according to the donations page.

It didn’t take long for Joe Biden and Democrats to start pushing their radical agenda in Washington. Starting just hours after he was sworn into office, Biden’s White House began pumping out dozens of executive orders, many advancing extreme policies that might shock even some of his voters. But for those of us who have been following leftist groups like the Black Lives Matter organization, Biden’s early actions have not been surprising. In fact, last year BLM gave us a playbook for what we can expect from Biden’s administration for the next four years. That playbook is BLM’s signature legislative...

The cognitive dissonance required to accept these numbers is stunning. This is all part of a narrative supporting an agenda to keep the masses in the dark, compliant, and terrified. Conning people into conceding control to our "betters" is how they keep us in line.. Flu season came and went without ever actually existing this year. Doctors and mainstream media are putting forth every possible excuse for why it went from 400,000 hospitalized cases and 22,000 deaths last season to an infinitesimal 165 hospitalized cases this season, but very few of them are stating the most obvious reason. They claim...
