In this "Dark Winter," I suggest a fun little exercise.
Let's collectively write a novel, ONLY using dialogue from movies.
Only rule: You must quote the dialogue correctly and source it (i.e., "Wizard of Oz," 1939).
Now, I'm NOT going to start this. I will leave it to a brave Freeper to begin. However, Brave Freeper #1, remember that whatever foundation you lay, almost everyone is going to be constrained by that. . . at least at first. That said, fire away.
“Something new, dangerous, and risky!”
My vote: Staying in this country when we all know what’s coming (think 1930s Europe).
“Well, the world needs ditch diggers, too.”
Oh, sorry one more rule: the FIRST responder to the piece of dialogue is the one who sets the next story line dialogue. So please, as you respond, do so to the FIRST reply. I know, this may get tough after a while, so everyone take a second and make sure you’re responding to the right piece of dialogue.
What I will then do is every few days-—depending on the number of responses-—I will put the dialogue in a single document and reprint here with each Freeper noted by name and movie.
Caddyshack.
A man’s gotta know his limitations
Sirius, post the movie and year.
Your’s will be the initial baseline.
“What watch?” (Casablanca, 1942)
(oops)
Klytus : An obscure body in the S-K System, Your Majesty. The inhabitants refer to it as the planet... "Earth"
(Flash Gordon 1980)
It was a dark and stormy night..Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s 1830 novel Paul Clifford:
Echoed my thoughts
So, this will look like this:
1) “The world needs ditchdiggers, too.” (Caddyshack, 1980) by Sirius Lee
I will add, “The banker said. And, he added,
2) “A man’s got to know his limitations.” (Magnum Force, 1973), by PGalt
I will add, “Looking down at the man’s arm, he said, ‘Where did you get that watch?’
3) The man replied, “What watch?” (Casablanca, 1942), by ExGeeEye
I will add, “Before Klytus, the banker, could respond, Klytus’s beautiful wife came running up.
4) “Klytus, I’m bored. What plaything can you offer me today?”” (Flash Gordon, 1980), by 1_Rain_Drop
“You don't understand! I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I could've been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am.” -On the Waterfront, 1954
“It is the easiest thing in the world for a man to look as if he had a great secret in him.”
― Herman Melville, Moby-Dick
"Klytus, I'm bored. What plaything can you offer me today?
Klytus :" An obscure body in the S-K System, Your Majesty. The inhabitants refer to it as the planet... "Earth"
Has to be a movie.
“The world needs ditchdiggers, too.” The banker said. "And", he added, “A man’s got to know his limitations.” “Looking down at the man’s arm, he said, ‘Where did you get that watch?" The man replied, “What watch?”
(Before Klytus, the banker, could respond, Klytus’s beautiful wife came running up.....) “Klytus, I’m bored. What plaything can you offer me today?”
Go away! Bait’n Idiocracy
Party pooper...:)
