Ronald Reagan dreamt of a nation focused on freedom and achieving its “destiny to be as a shining city on a hill for all mankind to see.” Known as The Great Communicator during his presidency, he never felt it was the words he used that made a difference: it was the content. He has admitted that he wasn't a great communicator, but that he “communicated great things [that] came from the heart of a great nation.” These are some of our favorite words of wisdom from one of our favorite American leaders. “The most terrifying words in the English language...

Clicking on the mute button is like a double-edged sword. You've either said too much, or well, nothing at all, like this math teacher at the National University of Singapore (NUS), who only realised that his words didn't reach his students at the end of a lecture. In a recent YouTube video, Associate Professor Wang was seen wrapping up his lecture with a Q&A section. However, he was met with complete silence from the class. Finally, a student replied, telling Wang that he had been on mute the entire time. We cannot hear anything from you since 6:08pm," the student...

Anthony Brindisi (D-NY) has conceded to former Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) in the race for New York’s 22nd Congressional District. Brindisi’s concession comes three months after the election was held in the Empire State. With a margin of 109 votes, Tenney was declared the winner last week by a judge. In a statement announcing his concession, Brindisi said he hopes Tenney will work with those in the district, no matter political party, to “heal the deep divisions that exist in our country.” He said:

Vivek Murthy, President Biden’s pick for surgeon general, cashed in last year as the Chinese coronavirus pandemic gripped the nation, making more than two million dollars off pandemic “consulting.” Several of Biden’s nominees have filed financial disclosures, including Murthy, who according to Politico made millions by consulting various companies, including those in industries severely impacted by the pandemic, such as Carnival Cruise Line. Such consulting gigs have raised eyebrows due to concerns of bias. The outlet estimated that Murthy, who served as U.S surgeon general from 2014-2017, made nearly one million last year consulting for Netflix, Airbnb, and Carnival Cruise...

An Ingham County judge dismissed charges on Monday against several hair stylists who cut hair as a protest on the steps of the Michigan Capitol in May. Several haircutters and barbers participated in “Operation Haircut,” which was organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition. At least six stylists were ticketed for “disorderly conduct” by the Michigan State Police, which carried a $1,000 fine. The executive order issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) used as the basis for the infractions was later ruled unconstitutional.

Democrats reiterated Monday a threat to punish former President Donald Trump for not testifying at the impeachment trial in the Senate, which begins Tuesday. In a short filing responding to Trump’s lawyer’s 75-page trial memorandum, submitted Monday, the House impeachment managers — all Democrats hand-picked by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) — wrote: [T]he House has invited President Trump to voluntarily testify under oath, yet President Trump immediately rejected that opportunity to tell his story. The House will establish at trial that this decision to avoid testifying supports a strong adverse inference regarding President Trump’s actions (and inaction)...

This is part one of a three part video series covering Operation MI. As you can see I spent a considerable amount of time covering Nagumo’s Dilemma. To me it's one of most striking examples of how tough it can be for a commander to make a decision based on the information at hand. I found that to be the most interesting aspect of the battle.

Numerous leaders and law enforcement personnel in New Mexico — along with locals in his hometown of Lordsburg — have spoken about fallen State Police officer Darian Jarrott in recent days. On Saturday afternoon, his family’s voice was heard, calling the 28-year-old man an “irreplaceable” officer and father of three. “We have all lost someone special and close to our hearts, and I am so honored and proud to see the amazing impact he has left on this Earth,” said Gabriella Jarrott, who shared two sons with Darian Jarrott. Authorities say Jarrott was shot by Omar Felix Cueva, 39, during...

The University of Alabama System on Friday approved removing the name of former Alabama Governor George C. Wallace from a UAB campus building over his support of racial segregation. A resolution unanimously approved by trustees says Wallace rose to power by defending racial separation and stoking racial animosity. Advertisement “This is simply the right thing to do,” UA System Trustee Judge John England Jr. said during a presentation to the board (watch above). “The UA System, the Board of Trustees, our working group and our campuses recognize Governor Wallace’s complex legacy, including the well-known acceptance of his apology by civil...

European-crafted glass beads found at three different indigenous sites in northern Alaska date back to the pre-colonial period of North America, in what is an intriguing archaeological discovery. Somehow, these blueberry-sized beads made their way from what is now Venice, Italy, to the Brooks Range mountains of Alaska at some point during the mid-to-late 15th century, according to new research published in American Antiquity. The authors of the paper, archaeologists Michael Kunz from the University of Alaska Museum of the North and Robin Mills from the Bureau of Land Management, suspect the beads were trade goods that, after passing through...

As the pandemic sends thousands of recovering alcoholics into relapse, hospitals across the country have reported dramatic increases in alcohol-related admissions for critical diseases such as alcoholic hepatitis and liver failure. Alcoholism-related liver disease was a growing problem even before the pandemic, with 15 million people diagnosed with the condition around the country, and with hospitalizations doubling over the last decade. But the pandemic has dramatically added to the toll. Although national figures are not available, admissions for alcoholic liver disease at Keck Hospital of USC were up 30% in 2020 compared with 2019, said Dr. Brian Lee, a transplant...

The Justice Department will ask U.S. attorneys who were appointed by former President Donald Trump to resign from their posts, as the Biden administration moves to transition to its own nominees, a senior Justice Department official said Monday. But the U.S. attorney overseeing the federal tax probe involving Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, will remain in place. The acting attorney general, Monty Wilkinson, called U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who runs the federal prosecutor’s office in Delaware, and asked him to remain on the job, the official said. The Justice Department has been investigating the finances of Hunter Biden, including scrutinizing some...
