FAIRFIELD, Conn — Earlier this month, a school and store were found graffitied with anti-Joe Biden rhetoric. Police said the woman responsible, 65-year-old Emily Winters, of Fairfield, turned herself in Wednesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. According to a release, Winters was identified as as potential suspect after police received several tips from local residents. She confessed to defacing the exterior walls of TJ Maxx, the foundation of the Tunxis Hill Corner Plaza and the driveway of McKinley School. Winters had spray-painted the phrase "United States of China" on a sidewalk at McKinley Elementary School. The same...

A young Rita Moreno tried to emulate Elizabeth Taylor in her appearance, but when it came to her hair she maintained her cultural identity. During the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, Moreno, 89, opened up about her early years in Hollywood and Gene Kelly’s request to cut her hair for her role as Zelda Zanders in the 1952 film “Singin’ in the Rain.” “I did something that is so Latina because I was the shyest person on earth, and I said no,” Moreno, who is the subject of the documentary “Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for...

The covert disinformation campaign was secretly codenamed ‘Operation INFEKTION’. In July 1983, an Indian newspaper in New Delhi published an article alleging “U.S. experiments” were the likely cause of a new mysterious disease dubbed ‘AIDS’. Five years later, CBS anchor Dan Rather announced to millions of concerned Americans allegations that their own military might have been behind the deadly virus. On that very day, a few KGB operatives in the secret agency’s Lubyanka headquarters in Moscow likely praised each other for a job well done. The story about U.S. military experiments that might have produced AIDS caught up slowly but...

AIDS likely made the leap from chimpanzees to humans because of a starving World War I soldier who was forced to hunt the animals for food, according to a new book. The unknown “Patient Zero” was part of an invasion force of 1,600 Belgian and French troops who, along with 4,000 African aides, had traveled from Leopoldville in the Belgian Congo to a remote outpost in Cameroon, says Canadian microbiologist Jacques Pepin, who once worked as a bush doctor in central Africa in the 1980s. Pepin, a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Universite de Sherbrooke...

Emails to Blouin and Randolph weren’t immediately returned. The Trump Organization has said it’s legal for Trump to live at Mar-a-Lago.

The European Union recognised it "made a mistake" in triggering an emergency provision in the Brexit deal to control Covid vaccine exports, the Cabinet Office minister has said. Michael Gove said he was "confident" of the UK's vaccine supply and said its programme would continue as planned. He said the UK was "on track" to deliver 15 million jabs by 15 February. It comes after the EU reversed a decision which could have seen checks at the Irish border amid a vaccine row. Mr Gove said he had spoken with European Commission vice-president Maroš Šefčovič and both had agreed "we...

Now that the world has successfully completed history’s fastest development of a new vaccine, you might be wondering why we don’t always just make one this fast. If the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are safe and effective and the process to produce them didn’t cut any corners … well, why does it normally take around a decade to do something we just did in less than a year? The answer to that question is inextricably tied up with another question floating around: Once you get the vaccine, can you just go back to your normal life full of hugging people...

"They are coming for us," Newsmax's Greg Kelly warned his viewers this week. SNIP Biden is trying to "radically change the nature of the country", said conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. He warned listeners about a coming "dictatorship", one that could be orchestrated through his presidential orders. SNIP The actions from the new administration in the White House come at a moment when conservatives feel attacked from all sides. The former president has been silenced on Twitter and they allege that the social media companies are censoring conservative voices on their platforms. SNIP "It's a running theme," says Howard Polskin, publisher...

“Exclamation Mark: Immediately! Authority! Astonished!” (Mark 1:21-28) The featured gospel in our lectionary this year is the Gospel according to St. Mark. While all four gospels are telling the same story, the story of Jesus, and all four are inspired by the Holy Spirit, each gospel writer tells the Jesus story in his own individual style. And what all readers notice about the way Mark tells the story is the sense of urgency and action he conveys and how the story moves along. Jesus is thrown into conflict right away. We move from one event to another in rapid fashion....

Axios has a small squib about “The Mischief Makers,” a handful of idiosyncratic congressional backbenchers who make trouble for their respective party leadership. The leading Democratic mischief-maker is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who advocates some left-wing views I consider simplistic and impractical and, in some cases, poll badly. The top example of a conservative mischief-maker, presented in perfect symmetry, is Marjorie Taylor Greene. The most recent Greene view to be unearthed comes via Eric Hananoki. Just over two years ago, Greene suggested in a Facebook post that wildfires in California were not natural. Forests don’t just catch fire, you know. Rather, the blazes...

Palladino was robbed and critically injured just outside his San Francisco home San Francisco police have arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery and assault that left Jack Palladino, the famed private investigator who once worked for former President Bill Clinton, on life support this week, according to local reports. Authorities were also on the hunt for at least one other assailant, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday evening, citing a source familiar with the investigation. The 70-year-old gumshoe reportedly cracked his head on the pavement outside his Haight-Ashbury home when muggers yanked a new camera from around his...

WASHINGTON D.C.—For a long while now, the climate has been undergoing a change to become more like the climate it feels it should be. While many have embraced this, a number of intolerant people just won’t accept this change. This includes 78-year-old President Joe Biden, who, in another example of executive overreach, signed numerous executive orders to try to stop the climate from evolving. “I remember how the climate was back when I was a kid and going to the movies only cost a nickel,” Biden rambled to the press, “and that’s the way it always should be!” This is...

An Orange County woman has filed a $10 million civil lawsuit against a former employer she claims wrongly fired her for attending the Jan. 6 protests that culminated in a riot at the U.S. Capitol. Attorneys representing Leah Snyder, in a lawsuit filed Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Santa Ana, contend Snyder didn’t enter the Capitol building or take part in violence, but allege her employer, Alight Solutions, “adopted a version of the events” that were “advanced” by an unnamed “cancel culture media outlet.” According to the lawsuit, Snyder spent more than 20 years working remotely as a computer...

A new forecast from the University of Washington's pandemic forecasting team is frightening. Even in a best-case scenario, close to another 200,000 Americans are likely to die between now and May 1. More than 430,000 Americans have already died in the pandemic, and even if the entire population started doing everything right -- wearing masks, avoiding gatherings, staying two arms' lengths away from one another -- the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation predicts at least 130,000 more people would die in the next three months. And now the new variants are here. Virologists predicted from the beginning that the...
