Well, who could even have guessed that absolute kitchen disasters, war shortages, and pure coincidences are to thank for some of our favorite food and drinks we have today? Whether they’re urban legends, popular myths, or happened thousands of years ago, the stories are surely funny and entertaining. What if originally, corn flakes were the food to eat that would stop you from masturbating, pink lemonade was made out of dirty laundry water that pink tights were rinsed in, and Coke was sold as medicine that perhaps contained cocaine? Most people who set off on the journey of inventing stuff...

They started giving me the whole spiel "We're 6 seats away from getting rid of Nancy Pelosi...". I stopped her right there and said they're not going to get another dime from me until Liz Cheney is out of Congress. She started to say something like "I understand -" when I hung up.

Tiokhin’s team is not the first to make the argument that competition poses risks to science...But the model is the first to use details that explore precisely how those risks play out, he says. ...Tiokhin and his colleagues built a toy world of 120 scientist “bots” competing for rewards. Each scientist in the simulation toiled away, collecting data on a series of research questions. The bots were programmed with different strategies: Some were more likely than others to collect large, meaningful data sets. And some tended to abandon a research question if someone else published on it first, whereas others...

GameStop shares are surging again ahead of U.S. markets opening on Friday as online brokerage Robinhood eases restrictions on the purchase of certain shares. Robinhood had been faced with threats of a boycott from some Reddit users at the Wallstreetbets forum, who had bid up GameStop's shares prior to the trading ban. ... "Robinhood could have changed the rules, but a complete restriction on trading was wrong and that is why we are seeing AOC and Ted Cruz on the same side of that argument," noted Edward Moya, senior market analyst at OANDA, in a Friday research note.Already, the turmoil...

NEW YORK — Hillary Rodham Clinton has Russia on the brain, yet again. This is no surprise, since Russia has been very, very good to her. How good? At least $152 million in revenues.Referring to Donald J. Trump, with whom she also is obsessed, Hillary recently said on her “You and Me Both” podcast: “I would love to see his phone records to see if he was [sic] talking to Putin the day the insurgents invaded our Capitol.” She also proclaimed via Twitter: “Congress needs to establish an investigative body like the 9/11 Commission to determine Trump’s ties to Putin...

With the fraudulent 2020 election having been made official eight days ago, the vast majority of Trump-supporters believe there is no recourse. This is not true. The President and his team have a few different options. They’re all longshots as far as returning him to his rightful place in the Oval Office, but they can be used to get the evidence out to the people, evidence of voter fraud that has been suppressed. If the Senate impeachment trial moves forward, these actions would also give him the opportunity to defend himself in ways the Senate itself will not present. We’ve discussed...

Because of the abortion controversy, the mainstream media can’t reach a consensus over how many people were killed in a recent shooting in IndianapolisThese two news headlines are both about the same recent shooting incident in Indianapolis. This New York Times article is called“5 Killed in Indianapolis Shooting That Mayor Condemns as ‘Mass Murder’”Meanwhile, this CNN article is called“Indianapolis teen charged with six counts of murder for allegedly shooting pregnant woman and his family members”So they can’t agree on how many people were killed.I propose that DNA tests be given to each and every living being that was killed, in order...

Was chatting with my sister. A friend of hers was crying in church after services. Turns out her friend's son was seriously injured in a weight-lifting accident. My sister sat next to her, and hugged and prayed with her for her son. Some church goers passed by and expressed displeasure at my sister's "violation" of social distancing. My sister said she felt bad, and wondered whether what she did was right. I told her those people were idiots, and said it's as if we are no longer permitted to express compassion. Sorry, had to rant.

"This was not a peaceful protest. Hundreds of people came to Washington, DC, to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power," Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the DC District Court said in the hourlong hearing for Capitol riot defendant Richard Barnett on Thursday. Howell's remarks are some of the first from a federal district judge over the more than 150 criminal cases that resulted from the siege. Her decision on Barnett also marks the first ruling in an appeal from the Justice Department after a magistrate judge out of Washington denied its request to keep a Capitol riot suspect in jail....

Dennis Weidner, Amateur historian with a web site addressing many wars. There is no doubt that it is was the Red Army that tore the heart out of the German Army. Vladimir accurately quotes PM Churchill on this. President Roosevelt said basically the same thing. And there is no Western historian of any importance who disagrees. Only people who get their history from Hollywood disagree. Unfortunately this seems to be the case of many Russians who have in their head that Americans question the importance of the Red Army. It simply is not true.Several points need to be made in...

A best-selling fiction author could not have spun a more ironic tale so completely representative of our time. Just as an unprecedented situation—COVID and lockdowns—unfolded over the past year and led to massive gains for corporate titans like Walmart and Amazon while governments have crushed small businesses and individuals, a new, unprecedented situation has unfolded over the past week.Spilling off the pages of Reddit to become a substantial threat to the stock market’s stability is a microcosm of this tale of big business quashing the little guy, of Wall Street profiting despite the best, most subversive efforts of the underdogs....

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday vowed to oppose what he called the Biden administration’s bid to destroy jobs with its volley of actions targeting the oil and gas industry. Abbott signed an executive order during a press conference in Odessa on Thursday, which directed all state agencies to sue the Biden administration for any federal actions that threaten the Lone Star state’s energy sector. “Texas is going to protect the oil and gas industry from any type of hostile attack launched from Washington D.C.,” Abbott said. “President Biden’s embrace of the green new deal is a job killer...
