Fewer Americans will be alive to see Joe Biden Inaugurated than were living on Election Day. This has probably never happened before. Here’s the math. Across 2019, the US averaged about 8000 deaths per day. In 2019, we averaged about 10,000 births per day. That is, by the way, the lowest figure in decades, part of a long-term, accelerating decline. By the end of 2020 it was estimated that the daily rate of new births might have declined to as few as 8800 a day. for now, though, let’s just stick with the 10,000 figure. A normal delta between deaths...

DuCharme said in a statement. More than a dozen of the highest ranking leaders of the notorious transnational gang MS-13 have been charged, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Earlier today, an indictment was unsealed in Central Islip, New York charging 14 of the world’s highest-ranking MS-13 leaders who are known today as the Ranfla Nacional, which operated as the Organization’s Board of Directors,...

Capitol Steps, the popular satirical performance group known for putting the “mock in democracy,” announced it will be shutting down this year. “Like many in the entertainment business, we simply weren’t built to survive going a year or more without live performances,” reads a statement tweeted by the Capitol Steps account. In its nearly four decades of shows, the comedy troupe’s wild takes on modern history and politics has been described as “a machine gun of comedy,” the “real thing” when it comes to satire, and a “wonky-tonk geek chorus at the wings of our political theater.” The group famously...

There are a hundred reasons why nuclear energy can play a massive role in the future of American power and prosperity. It creates high-paying jobs better than any other energy source. Its fuel sources are abundant. It fuels NASA’s most innovative projects. It offers a solution to conservation concerns without devastating the economy. And despite its sensationalist image, it is far safer than fossil fuels, and about the same in safety as solar and wind.“Nuclear provides 55% of our country’s clean energy, and about 20% of our power, and it’s one of the most reliable generators that we have on the...

U.S. retail sales declined sharply in December, as holiday shoppers stayed away amid surging coronavirus infections and the aftermath of Joe Biden’s presidential victory. Excluding car and gasoline sales, retail sales fell 2.1 percent in the final month of 2020, data from the Commerce Department showed Friday. The prior month’s figure was revised down to show a 1.8 percent decline from the initial estimate of 0.8 percent, which means December was a bigger decline from a lower starting point.

Progressives have a new confidence following the election of Joe Biden, the turmoil at the Capitol, and now the second impeachment of Donald Trump. Their newfound buoyancy of spirit is such they’ve begun vocally supporting efforts at censorship and blacklists in ways they might have shied away from before. As a final humiliation, they’re rather aggressively now demanding conservatives assume the position and apologize for believing the 2020 election might have had some security and integrity problems. Apologize so the nation can start to heal, the message goes. “Republican lawmakers who objected to the electoral vote results on the grounds...

Harvard’s cancel culture is just warming up. After Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) was given the boot this week from the Harvard Institute of Politics Senior Advisory Committee, students are now demanding that degrees be revoked from White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, Sen. Ted Cruz, and Rep. Dan Crenshaw. According to the petition that’s circulating on campus, the move is in response to them spreading “disinformation and mistrust,” Fox Business reports. The petition is entitled, “Revoke their Degrees,” and was circulated by four students who attend Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, FOX Business has confirmed. It calls on the university...

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) on Thursday wrote a letter apologizing to Black constituents for opposing the Electoral College results, saying he didn't realize the attempt would cast doubt "on the validity of votes coming out of predominantly Black communities." In a letter addressed to "My friends in North Tulsa" obtained by Tulsa World, Lankford acknowledges that his actions "caused a firestorm of suspicion among many of my friends, particularly in Black communities around the state. I was completely blindsided, but I also found a blind spot." Lankford last month signed onto a letter from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) saying he...

Dear Chuck, Is America heading towards an economic collapse? If so, how do I prepare? Worried Boomer Dear Worried Boomer, My view is we are headed towards another economic crisis with a low risk of an actual economic and/or currency collapse. In either scenario, there are ways to be prepared. Economic Crisis vs. Collapse An economic crisis is different from a collapse. America has worked through several in my lifetime: ‘70s stagflation, ‘81 recession, ‘89 savings and loan crisis, post-9/11 recession, ‘08 great financial crisis, and the 2020 coronavirus crisis we are in now. A collapse is brought on by...

In August, Russia unveiled the export version of its fifth-generation Sukhoi Su-57 fighter aircraft. Displayed at the Army-2020 International Military and Technical Forum, the Su-57E also took part in the arms tradeshow’s flight demonstration program. Among the nations that apparently expressed interest in the aircraft was India, which The EurAsian Times reported was “seriously considering exploring an initial batch of ‘off the shelf’ Su-57 jets from Russia to evaluate their capabilities – before entering into a contract for joint production.”

In her fine opinion piece for the Martin Center, Megan Zogby bemoans the “Quixotic” requirement that North Carolina college and university students take between two and four courses in a language such as Spanish, French, or German. This requirement, Zogby asserts, “appears to have no meaningful effect on the language proficiency of college graduates.” What is more, the coursework “adds to [students’] tuition bill, but doesn’t teach them a new skill for their careers.” Anyone who has struggled through Spanish 102, only to find it difficult to impossible to ask for directions to the restroom in a Latin American restaurant,...

What we’re witnessing is the dangerous normalization of a dystopian concept of “freedom” in which government dominates your life “for your own good.”When the Australian state of Victoria issued a 48-hour warning on New Year’s Eve that its border with the neighboring state of New South Wales would be indefinitely closed, it likely secured the award for the most egregious measure by a western government to curb COVID-19. The state government instructed residents to return home by 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 1. Those who did not arrive at the border by the midnight curfew were turned away by police. Thousands...

Why can’t Republicans be as smart as this caller, J.C., on Rush Limbaugh’s program on Thursday? Want to solve the problem of reaching the black community, Republicans? Then find this man and put him in charge of the whole darn party.I’m a black American conservative here in West Texas, El Paso. I’m concerned about the messaging—the verbiage from people on the conservative side to get folks who look like me who are straddling the fence to say “Hey, I’m all in.’How is it not systemic racism that if I’m in California and I go to jail and someone who is...

State officials also Thursday erected a temporary 6-foot chain link fence around the state Capitol, bolstering other temporary and permanent barriers, and the California Highway Patrol has refused to issue permits for rallies that had been planned there. California has an active effort to recall Newsom, anger over the governor’s stay-at-home orders aimed at slowing spread of the coronavirus, and ample numbers of right-wing activists. The Capitol already has been the site of weekly weekend clashes between Trump supporters and counter-demonstrators. Hundreds of Guard members were deployed in Sacramento and elsewhere in the state last summer amid sometimes destructive protests...
