Explanation: All of the other aurora watchers had gone home. By 3:30 am in Iceland, on a quiet September night, much of that night's auroras had died down. Suddenly, unexpectedly, a new burst of particles streamed down from space, lighting up the Earth's atmosphere once again. This time, surprisingly, pareidoliacally, the night lit up with an amazing shape reminiscent of a giant phoenix. With camera equipment at the ready, two quick sky images were taken, followed immediately by a third of the land. The mountain in the background is Helgafell, while the small foreground river is called Kaldá, both located...

"The text of the Constitution is clear. States select electors. Congress does not. Accordingly, our path forward is also clear. We mush respect the states' authority here," the statement said. "Though doing so may frustrate or immediate political objectives, we have sworn an oath to promote the Constitution above our policy goals." The seven Republicans began their statement by expressing outrage at the "significant abuses in our election system" through "reckless" adoption of mail-in ballots leading up to the November election. Trump and several other congressional leaders have complained of voter fraud tied to the widespread use of mail-in ballots...

President Donald Trump has filed two lawsuits - federal and state - against GaSecofState. The telephone conference call GaSecofState secretly recorded was a “confidential settlement discussion” of that litigation, which is still pending. The audio published by @TheWashingtonPost is heavily edited and omits the stipulation that all discussions were for the purpose of settling litigation and confidential under federal and state law.

On this date in 1786, Elizabeth Wilson was hanged in Chester, Pennsylvania for the murder of her infant twins. “One of the melodramas of the early American republic,” our Elizabeth (sometimes called “Harriot Wilson” in the accounts) was a farmer’s daughter of Chester County who got knocked up by a passing sailor. When this gentleman declined to make an honest woman of her after she had borne the bastards, the kids disappeared — later to be discovered dead in the woods by a hunter. The fallen woman denied having killed them directly, but “acknowledged having placed the children by the...

Kansas have endured lineup changes and internal power struggles; record company cold feet and radio station snubs; band members feeling the hand of God and afterwards singing – literally – His praises, or snorting mounds of coke, getting their hands on whole gaggles of groupies, and knocking back booze like it was labelled The Elixir Of Life , not to mention consuming King Oscar sardines - right out of the can. Basically, Kansas have gone through the kind of trials and tribulations that would have caused many bands to implode, but instead they still collectively live to tell the tale...
