Prepare for supplies to tighten for the cheap, effective therapeutic treatment for early stage Covid-19 infection, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ). Just as the medical establishment in the US is relaxing its absurd and lethal suppression of the cheap, generic drug, following President Trump’s endorsement of it early in the pandemic, HCQ’s continued availability may suffer. The world’s second largest pharmaceutical facility producing the precursors for HCQ has been destroyed by an explosion and fire.Taiwan English News reports: An explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Taoyuan City left two injured and caused a fire early this afternoon, December 20.People as far as Tamsui...

What, in today's political culture, is a "centrist"? Old-fashioned political nerds define it by support for legislation and policy proposals. If you love really big tax cuts and favor abolishing several Cabinet departments, you're not a centrist. If you want to "defund the police" and "end fossil fuels," you're also not a centrist. This is one of those matters of political categorization that our most prestigious newspapers mangle on a regular basis. Liberal editors and reporters have an annoying tendency to define the center as the precise location where they stand on the ideological spectrum. Case in point: The New...

I was flying into Denver a year or so back to speak at a conference. Seated next to me on the plane was a very well-dressed Muslim woman, who looked quite professional in her outfit and her demeanor. About 45 minutes away from landing, she turned to me and spoke: “Are you a Christian priest?” I was wearing my cassock. “Yes,” I responded. “I have never met a Christian before,” she said. “Do you really believe that Jesus is God and that He died?” I was immediately put in mind of an exam I took in seminary. It was called...

When kids on a playground run out of other arguments they often resort to taunts and name calling. Adults are supposed to know better. But we live in an era in which otherwise responsible people seem to be reverting to a second childhood. Donald Trump is probably the most consequential president of our lifetime. Yet in the four years of his presidency, I can recall very few instances where one of his major policy changes was rationally discussed on the editorial pages of the New York Times. Instead, it’s been four years of diatribe. Four years of invective. Four years...

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti vetoed a plan backed by black and Latino members of the City Council to redistribute money cut from the police Tuesday because he said it was too focused on everyday needs and not on the “call of history.” The plan, which was originally passed 13-2, included funding to trim trees, improve parks, and repair sidewalks in poor neighborhoods. The mayor told the Los Angeles Times that the proposal was too focused on “business as usual.”

Hundreds of immigrants in France working on the coronavirus frontline have had their service to the country recognised with fast-track citizenship. The interior ministry invited residents helping with efforts against Covid-19 to apply for accelerated naturalisation. More than 700 have already been granted citizenship or are in the final stages of receiving it. "Health professionals, cleaning ladies, childcare workers, checkout staff: They all proved their commitment to the nation, and it is now the turn of the republic to take a step towards them," the office of Marlene Schiappa, junior minister for citizenship, said on Tuesday. Normally a successful applicant...

Many of you older Treepers remember praying for my grandson Conner five years ago last fall when he was a baby undergoing open heart surgery at Vanderbilt. The two holes in Conner’s heart were easily repaired and he is now a healthy little boy. He and his older brother are autistic. Last year I posted The Christmas Pumpkin, the story of my first adventure making a special gift for Conner. Copied from last year, here is the story behind the Christmas Pumpkin. Incidentally, if I remember correctly, the original story was my most popular post ever according to the...

Former Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) Tuesday on MSNBC’s “All In” called President Donald Trump “a grown man who can’t admit he lost” the 2020 presidential election. Discussing a video released by Trump criticizing the coronavirus stimulus bill, Hayes said, “I’m curious your reaction to this. Part of what has made this entire negotiation maddening from everyone — I’ve talked to and reporting on it is here you’ve got this president who can basically make Republicans do anything who hasn’t lifted a finger on these negotiations, hasn’t pushed them on anything, has totally checked out. If he wanted to from the...

There has been a lot of discussion about Pence's role in the upcoming counting of the elector slates. In 1797 there was a single challenge from, as I recall, Georgia, whose electors had filled out the paperwork wrong. John Adams, the veep, stood to become president by not entertaining any objections. But when he came to Georgia, he sat down for a moment. Thomas Jefferson had ordered the Democratic Republicans NOT to contest, and after a moment, Adams resumed the count . . . in his favor. A similar episode happened in 1801 with Jefferson doing the reading and an...

Dr. Steve LaTulippe is a family physician in Dallas, Ore., who specializes in pain management that bypasses reliance on opioids. He has practiced family medicine at his small-town clinic for over 20 years with what he describes as a spotless record with the Oregon Medical Board. So it came as quite a shock to him when the medical board suspended his license to practice medicine over a viral video of his speech at a Stop the Steal rally on November 7. Now, Dr. LaTulippe is sounding the alarm over the consequences of exercising his First Amendment rights, and how politics...

The coronavirus pandemic is set to make 2020 the deadliest year in US history. While final data will not be available for months, preliminary numbers suggest the US saw more than 3.2 million deaths this year, which is at least 400,000 more than in 2019 — a figure that could still go higher, according to the Associated Press. It marks a jump of 15%, the largest single-year percentage leap since 1918, when tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers died in World War I and hundreds of thousands died of Spanish flu

Christian hip-hop artist Lecrae is facing criticism on social media for his recent comments on abortion. But his story highlights a message that pro-lifers have long repeated: That Americans all too often choose abortion because they feel like it’s their only choice – a necessity.Earlier this month, Lecrae published a video where he shared his “thoughts about abortion,” including the abortion of his own unborn child. The Grammy award-winning singer, who boasts more than a million fans on social media, repented the abortion years ago. But now he’s exploring why he and his previous girlfriend once considered abortion “our only...

Fox Business host Charles Payne had no patience for incoming “Squad” member Congressman-elect Jamaal Bowman’s (D-NY) absurd claim that American capitalism is “'slavery by another name.'” During the Dec. 22 edition of America’s Newsroom on Fox News, anchor Trace Gallagher asked Payne for his take on Bowman’s sentiments. Payne didn’t mince words. He said that “we’ve heard these comments before,” and claimed Bowman’s attacks on American capitalism were “dangerous.” Payne warned that what Bowman said was indicative of the “concerted effort — a[n] organized, smart, brilliant effort — to bring down America’s capitalistic society and to replace it with something...

The unrelenting COVID-19 crisis has pushed Americans already on the financial brink to face impossible choices, and already vulnerable groups with the slimmest safety nets are suffering much of the fallout. And though no amount of data will ever fully grasp the full human toll from this past year, a new report underscores how the underlying difficulties experienced by the LGBTQ community are exacerbated by the virus. “COVID has revealed and exacerbated disparities that existed way before the pandemic started,” Logan Casey, co-author of the report and policy researcher at MAP, said. Now, a community already targeted by hate speech,...

In the weeks before he landed a deal with a Ukrainian gas company in 2014, Hunter Biden strategized with his business partner on how to leverage an upcoming official trip to Kiev by his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to clinch the lucrative arrangement, according to emails obtained a year ago by the FBI. The communications reviewed by Just the News show that the younger Biden referred to his father as "my guy" and took credit for "adding value" because the vice president made comments to Ukrainian leaders about natural gas production that might benefit his new client. The memos...
