SALEM, Oregon — More than 400 flag-waving, rosary-toting demonstrators huddled outside the Oregon Capitol Nov. 28 to press against state coronavirus limits on church attendance. Despite a pewter sky and frigid temperatures, the largely Catholic crowd enthusiastically declared an even deeper mission: Stop marginalizing faith from public life. “We will not surrender one more centimeter of religious freedom to any government,” said Father Theodore Lange, chaplain of the Oregon Knights of Columbus. The Knights organized the rally after Gov. Kate Brown announced a 25-person limit in churches statewide. After protests from Archbishop Alexander K. Sample and other leaders, Brown on...

Berlin — Six former European diplomats are calling on European governments to coordinate efforts to urge an incoming Biden administration to rejoin the Iran nuclear deal, from which President Trump withdrew in 2018, and to agree with the regime in Tehran on steps for mutual compliance. The call comes amid fears that Friday’s assassination of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh could complicate attempts to restore the deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). “In response to reimposed U.S. sanction [sic] since 2018, Iran has increased its nuclear activities and continues to step away from its commitments under the...

Officially, it’s all part of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s campaign to eradicate absolute poverty in ethnic minority areas by teaching local people new skills to enable them to increase their incomes and improve their livelihoods. These so-called “vocational training programs”, made infamous by the Muslim Uighur camps run in western Xinjiang, have more recently been extended to Tibet. But it is evident from official Chinese declarations in Tibet and Xinjiang that it’s not only about educating “rural surplus workers” in ethnic minority areas Beijing perceives as “backward.” Official Chinese documents on “poverty alleviation” quoted extensively by the non-partisan, Washington-based Jamestown...

WASHINGTON (RNS) — A Democratic group dedicated to representing secular values unveiled a slate of recommendations for President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming administration on Monday (Nov. 30), outlining a sweeping agenda designed to roll back many of President Trump’s actions involving religion and to “restore a vision of constitutional secularism.” The 28-page document, crafted by the Secular Democrats of America PAC, is being presented to the incoming administration by Democratic Representatives Jamie Raskin and Jared Huffman — both co-chairs of the Congressional Freethought Caucus. The SDA’s agenda offers a wide range of policy recommendations to push back against the so-called “Christian...

Dana Perino: “And the Obama Administration did this a lot too. There’s like ‘this is the first, the first, the first’ … there’s nothing wrong with that, if you think you want to get a quick hit in the media, you know exactly how to do it.” “Conservative administrations typically don’t do that, and also as a conservative woman you know you’re not going to get the glowing profile, so you just get your shit done — you get your stuff done, get your stuff done!” Greg Gutfeld: “This is the best Monday after Thanksgiving ever!”

San Jose’s Democrat Mayor Sam Liccardo has issued an apology after he failed to take his own advice and celebrated Thanksgiving with people outside of his immediate household, despite urging residents to “cancel the big gatherings” amid the coronavirus pandemic. In his apology, Liccardo said his Thanksgiving arrangement with his family was “contrary to the rules” established by the state. “In summary, eight of us representing five households sat around three distanced tables in our own family groups on the back patio, and we wore masks when not eating,” Liccardo wrote in a lengthy statement. “I have a very large...

New York City’s top doctor Tuesday warned that those vulnerable to COVID-19, as well as their household members and caregivers, should stay home when possible — and wear masks “at all times.” Urging what amounts to a self-imposed second lockdown on the group, the de Blasio administration said in a statement, “Effective immediately, the City’s Health Commissioner is advising older adults and people with underlying health conditions who are at an increased risk of severe COVID-related illness to limit activities outside the home, except leaving home to travel to work or school, or for essential purposes including medical care, grocery...

In the video, O’Keefe can be seen unmuting himself on a phone and telling Zucker, “We’ve been listening to your CNN calls for basically two months...

Political leaders from around the world have rallied behind Australia in the wake of China's newly imposed 200 per cent tariffs on wine which could cripple the $6billion industry. The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China - made up of more than 200 MPs from 19 countries - has urged millions of citizens to buy a 'bottle or two' of Australian wine before Christmas as a show of support. Australia's wine industry exports 39 percent of all its total product to China. The introduction of huge tariffs last week, brought in as apparent payback after Scott Morrison called for an inquiry into...

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said on Tuesday that electricity consumption will double if the world’s car fleets are electrified, increasing the need to expand nuclear, solar, geothermal and wind energy generating sources. Increasing the availability of sustainable energy is a major challenge as cars move from combustion engines to battery-driven electric motors, a shift which will take two decades, Musk said in a talk hosted by Berlin-based publisher Axel Springer. There’s no unicorn energy source or free lunch. Currently, electric cars are primarily powered by coal, natural gas, and nuclear. Those are the sources we use to generate electricity,...

Rudy Giuliani says he never discussed a pardon with President Donald Trump. “#FakeNews NYT lies again,” Giuliani wrote on Twitter on Tuesday in reference to The New York Times story published earlier in the day, saying the former New York City mayor discussed a preemptive pardon with the president as recently as last week. The Times cited two people familiar with the matter and said Giuliani discussed the possibility of being issued a preemptive pardon before Trump leaves office. “Never had the discussion they falsely attribute to an anonymous source,” Giuliani said. “Hard to keep up with all their lies.”...

A large new study, led by a team of geneticists from University College London and published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Communications, has investigated over 10,000 mutations to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and concluded there currently does not appear to be any variant that is more infectious or transmissible. Those closely following COVID-19 news cycles are probably familiar with the near-constant parade of headlines that have been published since the beginning of the year proclaiming the virus has mutated and we now have strains that are more infectious, or more deadly. However, as vaccine charity GAVI explains, viruses are mutating all the...

I wonder, if the election outcome in any state or several combined reaches the Supreme Court, what remedy would best suit that Court? The Court issues a rejection or a remedy. If the Court chooses to seek a remedy, the following is a suggestion of what remedy would disenfranchise the least voters who are on record as legitimate, not in question via mail-in ballots.Late in the evening of 11/3 early morning of 11/4 a command from 'someone' came to the powers overseeing the counting in Milwaukee, Detroit, Philly and Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Maricopa County, Arizona and a few other cities....
