In a 5-4 decision, the US Supreme Court ruled that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's restrictions on church attendance in his state are an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment's "free exercise" clause. The original suit was filed by a Catholic Diocese and two Orthodox Jewish synagogues. In the unsigned majority opinion, the court ruled that "the restrictions at issue here, by effectively barring many from attending religious services, strike at the very heart of the First Amendment's guarantee of religious liberty. Even in a pandemic, the Constitution cannot be put away and forgotten." Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented, saying that...

[I'm excerpting to my experience. Some missionaries have chosen to return to their home countries.]... Some missionaries never had any choice. Mary Lott is currently in Alabama, hoping that next year she and her husband can go back to Indonesia. She would have stayed if she could have. A staff member with Wycliffe Bible Translators, Lott and her husband have worked at an international school since 1995. They considered the health risks when they first moved to the country—long before anyone knew of COVID-19. “We knew malaria is endemic,” Lott said. “Dengue fever. Typhoid. Typhus. Tuberculosis. We knew that when...

I have one basic rule. Anytime John Brennan is upset about something, you know it’s good for the United States. As we reported earlier, “someone,” likely the Israelis, took out out Iran’s top nuclear scientist, the father of their military nuclear program, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. First photos of the car where the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh took place today are circulating on Tabnak's Telegram account. #Iran pic.twitter.com/0iE0Aqtzwg — Jason Brodsky (@JasonMBrodsky) November 27, 2020 Now at a time when there’s a possibility that Joe Biden might come in and re-up the Iran Deal and throw open the doors to all Iran’s...

Here are some Covid realities that we’ve long alluded to that might be useful to spell out in the current surge. U.S. government scientists now estimate that 40% of cases are asymptomatic and 80% of symptomatic cases are mild—in short, 88% of subjects don’t know they are infected or have no great incentive to find out if they are suffering from Covid or some more familiar bug. An American adult typically suffers two colds a year, while school-age children may suffer 10 or more, and 20 million of us get the flu. A conservative estimate, then, is that 13 million...
