MADISON - The U.S. Supreme Court upheld Wisconsin's voting laws Monday, rejecting an effort to require the counting of absentee ballots that are sent back to election officials on or just before Election Day. The court's 5-3 ruling means that absentee ballots will be counted only if they are in the hands of municipal clerks by the time polls close Nov. 3.

Just got done voting in PG county MD. The most liberal county in MD. Some observations. It took me about an hour to vote. Line wasn't as long as in 2008 and 2012. The election worker initially gave me a paper ballot. I had to request to vote electronically. So they sent me to another line. Was that necessary? Also. There were a lot of electioneering going on past the sign that prohibited that.

Joe Biden addressed a virtual campaign event when he said: “Four more years of George, er, George, er, he – we’re going to find ourselves in a position where, if Trump gets elected, we’re going to be in a different world.” The 77-year-old Democrat presidential nominee appeared to receive help from his wife Jill as she sat alongside him muttering “Trump” under her breath. MONTEREY COUNTY — The state of California has implemented new reopening guidelines called “equity metrics” in an effort to bring down Covid-19 infection rates in disadvantaged communities and communities of color. The third metric adds another criteria for counties to reopen but has not been a hurdle for Monterey County, as it moves toward moving from Tier 1 to Tier 2 with fewer restrictions. The new metric uses ratings from the California Health Places Index, which can be found at healthyplacesindex.org and rates census tracts. The 25 census tracts within Monterey County with the lowest health place index are being...

The chief justice is an especially potent swing voter, because he also has the power to assign authorship of the majority opinion, including to himself. That can help shape a decision’s scope and direction—usually, in Chief Justice Roberts’s case, by making it more tentative. If the chief justice is in dissent, however, the assignment power falls to the most senior associate justice in the majority. Clarence Thomas is now the most senior justice, so he will assign authorship any time he is in the majority and Chief Justice Roberts dissents. Justice Thomas is something of an anti-Roberts. His lone concurrences...

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” — President John F. Kennedy, 1962 Mark Twain reputedly quipped, “History does not repeat itself, but it rhymes.” Whoever actually said it, the rhyming of history is nowhere better illustrated that the resonance of events during the last four years in America with the events that ushered in the final descent of the old Roman Republic into tyranny. From swamp creatures to political disruptors; from endless wars to corrupt and avaricious politicians; from politicians who go to any lengths to further their wealth, expand their power and control the...

On their own, a single cup of coffee or green tea daily might lower your risk of early death by 12% to 15%, respectively. "Familiar beverages such as green tea and coffee may...

There is a massive pandemic to which we have to adjust. But we must not forget who we are and what we need to be. Free beings. Freedom is the opposite of a corrupt culture of fear. Right now it is Donald Trump who is showing the world how to face the Coronavirus without fear. God Bless America

Former Biden insider Tony Bobulinski allegedly has a recording of Biden family operatives begging him to stay quiet, or he will “bury” the reputations of everyone involved in Hunter’s overseas dealings. According to The Federalist‘s Sean Davis, Bobulinski will play the tape on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Tuesday, when Carlson will devote his show ‘entirely’ to an interview with the Biden whistleblower. Google’s high-handed tactics with US regulators have come back to haunt it, with critics saying the tech giant set the stage for a dramatic showdown with the Department of Justice nearly a decade ago. The DOJ last week sued Google, accusing it of using anti-competitive tactics to maintain its search engine’s dominance over rivals. The focus of the suit — massive cash payments to smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung to make Google’s search engine the default option on their devices — is a fresh one. But industry sources say the Silicon Valley giant has nevertheless made itself vulnerable to...

Explanation: Do any shapes seem to jump out at you from this interstellar field of stars and dust? The jeweled expanse, filled with faint, starlight-reflecting clouds, drifts through the night in the royal constellation of Cepheus. Far from your own neighborhood on planet Earth, these ghostly apparitions lurk along the plane of the Milky Way at the edge of the Cepheus Flare molecular cloud complex some 1,200 light-years away. Over two light-years across and brighter than the other spooky chimeras, VdB 141 or Sh2-136 is also known as the Ghost Nebula, seen at toward the bottom of the featured image....

If there is the opportunity to vote early, should a person do so? I hear people worrying about something happening on election day that would hamper the vote and had planned on going on that day. But, interested in what Freepers think about the subject. Are we okay in waiting? Or if you were me, would you make time to travel across town to the BOE and vote early?
