ST. LOUIS — The Archdiocese of St. Louis cracked down on its Immigration Task Force following a webinar in which panelists appeared critical of the Trump administration’s handling of refugees. Marie Kenyon, an accomplished attorney who oversees human rights issues for the archdiocese as director of the Peace and Justice Commission, also was put on leave over the matter. The Trump administration is preparing a series of immigration enforcement actions targeting sanctuary cities leading up to the November general election, sources told the Washington Post on Tuesday. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation is known informally as the “sanctuary op” and could reportedly begin as soon as this week in California and eventually move to cities including Denver and Philadelphia. A federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld a lower court ruling that extended the deadline for counting mail-in ballots in Wisconsin until Nov. 9 as long as they are postmarked by the Nov. 3 election, AP reports. A New Jersey man’s body was pulled from 1,565 feet underwater after he drowned in Lake Tahoe, Nevada — the deepest known recovery in US history, authorities said. The remains of 29-year-old Ryan Normoyle were recovered Monday from the lake, which is the second-deepest in the nation, according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. Police said Normoyle drowned last month after he recorded himself jumping off his rented boat then was unable to swim fast enough to catch up with the vessel, which he left in gear.
