TALLAHASSEE, Florida - It’s almost unheard of to go into a Southern Baptist church and not have a plate passed for donations. Until now. “It took a pandemic for a Baptist church to quit passing a plate. That’s almost unthinkable. It’s close to heresy. Real close,” said David Uth, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Orlando and president of the Southern Baptist Pastors Conference on a video conference on how to reopen churches. “It’s just not going to be the same.” The meeting was set up by the Florida Family Policy Council and had about 800 church leaders from...

  • Passport Operations in Response to COVID-19

If you are thinking about applying for or renewing a U.S. passport now for international travel, please read the Department of State's current international travel advisory. Because of public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have extremely limited U.S. passport operations. If you apply or renew now, you will experience significant delays of several months to receive your U.S. passport and the return of your citizenship evidence documents (such as birth certificates or naturalization certificates). Unless you have a life-or-death emergency, please wait until we resume normal operations to apply for or renew your passport. What if...

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued a statement on a California’s court’s denial of Judicial Watch request temporary restraining order (TRO) against California Governor Gavin Newsom and his Director of the California Department of Social Services Kim Johnson to restrain them from spending $79.8 million dollars of taxpayers’ money to provide direct cash benefits to unlawfully present aliens. Though the court found that Judicia Watch was likely to succeed on the merits (that Governor Newsom had no authority under law to spend the money), the court found that there was a public interest in sending tax money...

Pirates based in West Cork made millions from plundering shipping and they almost destroyed trade between Europe and the Americas — but were beloved by locals as they gave them three times the going price for supplies. The extent of the pirate presence in the region and their huge influence is detailed in a new book written by Dr Connie Kelleher, an underwater archaeologist, based in Killarney, who works for the National Monuments Service. Her book, 'The Alliance of Pirates — Ireland and Atlantic Piracy in the Early 17th Century,' describes how West Cork became a magnet for pirates and...

A conservative justice on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court is questioning whether Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’s stay-at-home orders are the “definition of tyranny.” Evers issued his first stay-at-home order on March 24 and then extended it on April 16. It is currently set to expire on May 26, but a case brought by Republican legislative leaders could scale it back immediately. "My question for you is, where in the constitution did the people of Wisconsin confer authority on a single, unelected Cabinet secretary to compel almost 6 million people to stay at home and close their businesses and face imprisonment if they...
  • How to Pronounce X Æ A-12, the Name of Elon Musk and Grimes’ Baby

Elon Musk and Grimes have chosen a very unconventional name for their newborn son: X Æ A-12. On Monday, after the Tesla CEO announced the birth of his child with the Canadian singer, a fan tweeted, “We need the name we literally need it.” Musk, 48, responded, “X Æ A-12 Musk,” with no explanation. He also shared two photos of the newborn — one with a filter of tattoos on his face.

Paramount is set to go to the future with 2084, a sci-fi film from The Batman writer Mattson Tomlin. The project is being described as a “spiritual sister” to George Orwell’s classic 1984, which really just sounds like they’re adapting 1984 but changing the year so it’s no longer dated. The script is also described as having a tone similar to both The Matrix and Inception. THR has the scoop on 2084, which was just snapped up by Paramount. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce. And just what is this movie about? Don’t ask, because no one is saying. Instead, the...

On Monday, the Sheriff of Crook County, Oregon, John Gautney, issued a statement that went viral for all the right reasons. In announcing that the county was ready to get back to work, he said that the sheriff’s office would not cite businesses that chose to reopen. Sheriff Gautney said that it didn’t make sense for small businesses to remain closed when large retailers could continue to operate with proper safety measures in place. He noted that Crook County has had a grand total of one case of CCP coronavirus, and that it was time to get back to work....

FBI Director Christopher Wray needs to go. He should resign or be fired. He was supposed to be the solution for the beleaguered bureau. Instead, he became the problem. During his nearly three-year tenure at the helm of the FBI, Wray has consistently defied Congress by refusing to produce documents exposing the dishonest acts of his predecessor, James Comey, and his cadre of corrupt confederates. Even worse, Wray is to blame for suppressing evidence of innocence in the criminal case against former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Under Wray, promises of transparency and reform proved to be nothing more than...

Many have been worried that the November election will be compromised should shutdowns, lockdowns, and social distancing continue, as people won't be able to vote in person. Some have suggested voting by mail or via the internet, but these ideas seem terrible to other, smarter people. But democracy seems to have been saved at the last moment as Chick-fil-A has been contracted to run all the polling places this November with the company's efficient drive-thru system. By some estimates, everyone in the country could vote within about a half-hour with the lightning-fast process of Chick-fil-A voting. Best of all, Chick-fil-A...

The White House coronavirus task force will start to wind down later this month, a senior White House official told CNN on Tuesday. The official said the task force "will be phased down around Memorial Day. We will continue to have key medical experts advising (President Donald Trump) daily and accessible to press throughout the coming months ahead." The New York Times first reported the White House's plan to wind down the task force. The move would quash the most visible nerve center for the federal government's response to the virus. But a senior administration official told CNN to expect...

Democrats have converted an AI project that was initially funded by the department of defense to combat propaganda from ISIS and other extremists, into a tool to track down and counter Trump supporters on social media. The “Defeat Disinfo” group is being advised by retired Army General Stanley McChrystal. The project is called “Defeat Disinfo,” a creation of entrepreneur Curtis Hougland. It was initially funded by the Pentagon’s top-secret DARPA research agency, when the goal of the technology was to identify and counter online narratives from Islamic extremists. Founded by technology entrepreneur Curtis Hougland, it is still advised by retired Army...
  • Mutant strain of coronavirus that makes it more infectious has 'dominated' the US and Europe - and vaccines in development may NOT work against it, study suggests

Scientists have discovered a coronavirus mutation that is of 'urgent concern' because it makes the virus more contagious and has already become dominant in the places it's reached - including part of the US. Researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico say that the mutant strain started spreading in early February in Europe. It has since made its way to the US, where it became the most common - and aggressive - strain on the East Coast by March, and the scientists say its now the world-dominating strain. In their report, which hasn't been peer-reviewed but was posted...
