HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit filed by a gun shop that challenged Gov. Tom Wolf’s authority to shutter businesses determined to be “non-life-sustaining,” paving the way for enforcement to begin Monday. Without comment, a majority of the state’s high court late Sunday denied the petition by a gun shop, a gun purchaser and a law firm to have Wolf’s shutdown order thrown out. The lawsuit had claimed Wolf’s edict violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms and other constitutional rights.

Margaret Novins talked to me on her cellphone from a hospital bed at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, N.J. She had been ill since March 8, toughing it out through fatigue, a cough and fevers that brought on vicious chills for five evenings straight. Finally, on March 15, she went to an urgent care center and, on March 16, to an emergency room. The attending there called it “conversational dyspnea.” “I couldn’t breathe,” she said. Novins, who shared her lab tests and medication list, got her diagnosis March 19. Next to the entry for SARS-CoV-2 were the words “Detected Critical.”...

It has been one week since I have been quarantined. Well, since I and my four sisters, three brothers, fiancé, and dad have been quarantined. All 10 of us, self-quarantined under one roof in order to avoid infection. My mother is immunocompromised so she shipped off to my grandparents a week ago in the middle of nowhere, North Carolina in hopes to avoid more people and stay healthier there. If you are following along, that means eight kids, plus one fiancé, under one roof with only dad home, who is preoccupied working from home in the dining room most of...

US President Donald Trump lashed out at China on Saturday, saying Beijing’s lack of transparency led to his administration’s late response to the coronavirus outbreak. “I wish China would have told us how bad the situation was before we had to read about it. Because they were having a big problem and they knew it,” Trump said at a news conference on Saturday at the White House. “China was very secretive and that’s unfortunate,” Trump said. Trump has pivoted this week to emphasize the outbreak’s start in China, repeatedly using the term “Chinese virus,” which has been criticized by the...

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reopened 13 of its 30 rest stops on a limited basis on the interstates and throughout the Pennsylvania Turnpike. PennDOT spokeswoman Alexis Campbell said in a statement that the sites will have five portable toilets, though the services plazas will remain closed due to a lack of cleaning staff. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission reopened all 17 of its service...

Stop calling the plan to send checks to American citizens hurt by the coronavirus crisis an “economic stimulus” or a “bailout.” This isn’t about changing the way our economy operates, or rescuing anyone from poor business decisions. This is about making people whole. While politicians of all stripes try to spin this deadly crisis into a way to pass their favorite pet policy projects, reimbursing people for the enormous costs of the new public health policies should be something we can all agree on. The chosen policy to fight coronavirus has been to utterly tank one of the best economies...

Very early my time one day this week, and very late in the U.S. I got a text from a close pastor friend in the U.S. asking, “What message do you believe God is speaking to Israel and my Jewish family in the midst of the CV situation?” I replied, “I don’t pretend to be able to get into God’s head on this.”“What are you perceiving?” my pastor friend probed.“It does give us the opportunity to be reflective and look into ourselves.” “There’s always a message,” my pastor friend added. “Some say He’s Jehovah Sneaky like that.”“Yes, I don’t doubt that,...

There is never ANY situation in which you cannot see the bright side of things. Allow me to improve your mood! The IQ of America will increase as stupid people flood Walmart for toilet paper, then succumb to the virus. Speaking of toilet paper, you now have five years worth. And, you can short toilet-paper manufacturers for vast profits! Zombies! With all the airports shut down or travel-restricted, CNN's viewership is now nearly 5 people.Globalists take one in the teeth. Everyone is reminded why single-sourcing from China is a REALLY bad idea. Democrats have overplayed their hands, showing people that...

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that states can effectively eliminate the insanity defense for criminal defendants who suffer from mental illness. The 6-3 ruling holds that a Kansas law preventing the exoneration of defendants who claim a diminished mental state is not unconstitutional. In an unusual alignment for the bench, Justice Elena Kagan, considered among the more liberal justices, wrote the majority opinion and was joined by her five conservative colleagues. Three liberal justices — Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg — dissented. "Defining the precise relationship between criminal culpability and mental illness involves examining the workings...

New York (AFP) - New York's mayor urged US President Donald Trump Monday to enforce a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus, as he pleaded for desperately needed hospital supplies. Bill de Blasio said America's federal government should roll out orders -- such as "shelter-in-place" in California and similar measures installed in New York -- across the world's number one power. "They need to be everywhere," he told CNN, describing the illness's "oxygen" as human-to-human interaction. "Unless you create social distancing... thousands of lives will be lost that could have been saved. It's as simple as...

I have news that many Americans are facing right now: my husband John has the coronavirus. We just got the test results at 7 a.m. this morning. While I cannot see him and he is of course cut off from all visitors, our daughter Abigail and I are constantly calling and texting and emailing. We love him very much and pray for his recovery. He is exhausted and sick but a very strong and resilient person. John started to feel sick when I was in Minnesota and he was in Washington D.C. and like so many others who have had...

Posted on March 22, 2020 by Msgr. Charles Pope A Solemn Reminder from The Lord Jesus in This Time of Crisis Jesus said something in yesterday’s Gospel (4thSunday in Lent) that I think we can apply to our current troubles:While it is daytime, we must do the works of Him who sent Me. Night is coming, when no one can work (John 9:4).A purely natural understanding would be that the passage is merely noting that worked stopped at sundown by necessity in those times, but of course the text is far deeper. Let’s ponder two related spiritual meanings and...
