Make Americans whole again

Stop calling the plan to send checks to American citizens hurt by the coronavirus crisis an “economic stimulus” or a “bailout.” This isn’t about changing the way our economy operates, or rescuing anyone from poor business decisions. This is about making people whole.

While politicians of all stripes try to spin this deadly crisis into a way to pass their favorite pet policy projects, reimbursing people for the enormous costs of the new public health policies should be something we can all agree on.

The chosen policy to fight coronavirus has been to utterly tank one of the best economies in American history, lay waste to American jobs, and throw millions of Americans into financial ruin virtually overnight. If staying home is life and death then taxpayers need to compensate those who are taking the hit from these new regulations.

The time is now. There is not a moment to be lost. Payments six months or a year from now will not be able to stem the bleeding for people who were asked to shutter their stores and restaurants at a moment’s notice. There is not time to file applications, to argue over eligibility and cutoffs. The full impact of the lockdowns has barely begun to be seen.

Send the checks now. Recoup some of the excess from the very successful on 2020 tax returns if it is deemed necessary. But if the American people are fighting this battle together, then we need to make sure they have what they need to make it through.

Seems to me it’s more of a short term high interest loan than a bailout. They’ll get it back when they raise taxes in 2021. Remember the “Peace Dividend” when the Soviet system collapsed?

One of the reasons UBI will never be implemented is that there will always be those who don't want it to be Universal, i.e. there will be salary caps, limits on how the money can be spent, etc.

Any UBI that is implemented, even this simple one time shot, will be overregulated, overtaxed, and overcomplicated.

Even if it starts off as a true UBI it will quickly morph into yet another welfare handout.

Yea..”The excesses”. What loser talk. I was a under achieving whiny little b*tch who did not save, bail me out...waaaaaaaaaa. You should bail me out with free money, because you don’t need it. I hear a man talking like that and I just want to pummel his face till it’s scarlet cauliflower. Women talk like that. The “stronger sex”..what BS, take the 19th amendment away, this country would right itself in a cpl of years. Soft-headed females and their feelings. This guy sounds like a SIMP pussy.

Wow :)

I see you feel strongly on the position :-)

from each according to his ability to each according to his needs. Of course that is going on in the United States just to a lesser extent.

It may be a much lesser extent but that’s what higher income taxes for the wealthy is.

What I would like to see is to allow us to tap into retirement savings, if one needs to, without penalty. So suspend the rules that call for 20% penalties for withdrawing from retirement accounts. This way no money is spent at all from the treasury. The rules change can always have a sunset provision that after 2-3 years after the change is passed then the penalties return.
I was laid off in early march and have enough in savings to last 4-5 months beforew I have to tap into retirement. Give us that option!!

How about we have an all out effort to bring all manufacturing back from China. disperse it across the nation to stem this kind of disruption ever again. Not just “national security” related products. everything. We need to be a self sustaining country again. Seal the borders tight and have strict immigration policy like we used to.

Confiscate financial assets held by Communist China to pay for it.

Computer entry. Boom. Done.
