... He Turns the Tables on ThemHouse Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) hit back on Tuesday after Democrats accused him of being racist for labeling COVID-19 as the "Chinese coronavirus." The disease has also been commonly called the Wuhan virus since it originated out of the city of Wuhan, China. McCarthy called it the Chinese coronavirus while informing people about the new government website that was created to inform people about the virus. In response, many of his Democratic colleagues said McCarthy was being racist or xenophobic.[snip] (Coronavirus Disease)

The remainder of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was canceled Wednesday as officials in both Houston and Harris County declare a health emergency. According to an alert from the Houston Rodeo app, the grounds at NRG Park will be closed as of 4 p.m. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said the new presumptive positive case of coronavirus that was reported Tuesday in Montgomery County was not related to international travel, and there was evidence of community spread in that case. That is what led to the decision to cancel the Rodeo, Turner said.

SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today filed a multistate amicus brief in two consolidated cases urging the U.S. Supreme Court to retain a previously established multi-factor test designed to safeguard the rights of workers and religious organizations. The test has been used since 2012 to determine which employees fall under the so-called “ministerial exception” and are therefore not protected by state and federal anti-discrimination laws. The defendants in each case have asked the court to broadly expand the exception, which could risk the unnecessary elimination of workplace protections for employees of religious organizations across the country.“Our nation’s...

The U.S. government's disaster response agency placed an urgent request last week seeking contractors who can deliver portable toilets, showers, and hand-washing stations throughout the United States within 24 hours notice, a potential sign of how the administration could be preparing to respond to a coronavirus pandemic. The Federal Emergency Management Agency said it was looking for vendors who are able to provide "portable facilities, to include toilets, showers, and handwash stations during a FEMA disaster response to all U.S. state, local, tribal, and territorial government locations," according to a "sources sought notice" the agency posted on the federal public...

Almost 200 people died from the coronavirus in 24 hours, Italy's Civil Protection Agency confirmed Wednesday — the highest daily increase in absolute terms registered anywhere in the world since the respiratory illness emerged in China at the end of last year. In response, the country's prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, told reporters the government would allocate 25 billion euros ($28.3 billion) to help mitigate the impact on the fragile economy. Only a week ago, he estimated it would need just 7.5 billion. From Tuesday to Wednesday, 196 people died, bringing the total number of deaths to 897, the Civil Protection...

The March 5 article was headlined "Trump's mental state — not Biden's — is the real concern, mental health professionals say." Exhibit A is Bandy X. Lee, who appeared on Stelter's show to promote her mental-fitness evaluation, insisted there is no comparison between Biden and Trump: “A few stumbled words are not the same as the extreme danger that result from a list of signs that Donald Trump has shown,” Bandy Lee, a psychiatrist on the faculty at the Yale School of Medicine, told...

A former Homeland Security adviser warned that the US is just over a week away from the nation’s hospitals “getting creamed” by the rapidly spreading coronavirus, reports said. Tom Bossert, who served under President Donald Trump from 2017 to 2018, told NBC News Tuesday the US is headed for the same sort of health care crisis Italy is experiencing. In a Monday op-ed in the Washington Post, Bossert said it’s imperative for the country to “reduce the acute, exponential growth of the outbreak” as soon as possible “in order to reduce suffering and the strain on our health care system.

Earlier on Wednesday, Chicago and Pittsburgh joined major cities including Dublin, Boston, Denver and New Orleans in nixing the Irish celebrations. Over 4.4 million people attend these six parades, among the largest gatherings affected by COVID-19. Hundreds of events have been cancelled, postponed or transformed into “digital-only” affairs. With the exception of minimal lip service, the Obamas will distance themselves from the 2020 election as it becomes clearer and clearer that it will be a blow out for Trump. Joe will offer her the VP slot to save his bid, but they (the Obamas) know Biden will loose and her being on his ticket will taint her forever. Staying off it will leave her open to a 2024 run.

SNIP The passage of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), 278-136, comes the day after the House struck a bipartisan deal on the legislation and just before the bill is set to expire on Sunday. Negotiators had worked for weeks, as both liberal Democrats and libertarian-leaning Republicans pushed for additional privacy protections, putting them at odds with lawmakers who wanted a clean reauthorization of the FISA bill, which they believed would easily pass in the upper chamber. Now the Senate will consider the bill, which extends three expiring provisions of the USA Freedom Act that touch on roving wiretaps, lone...

The submarine mysteriously went down in 1963, killing everyone on board. Thanks to a lawsuit, we're about to learn why. A retired U.S. Navy submarine commander sued the Navy to release an official report on the sinking of the USS Thresher—and won. Thresher sank in April 1963, lost with all hands, but there has never been an official explanation as to why. The loss of Thresher lead to an improved culture of safety in the Navy, and since 1968, the service hasn’t lost a single submarine. ================================================================== A retired U.S. Navy submarine commander has won a lawsuit forcing the Navy...

The pro-life movement is often criticized for supposedly imposing religious views on others. However, those in favor of abortion sometimes express devotion to a much darker aspect of spirituality. On Saturday, members of Students for Life, a pro-life group based in Virginia, had a sinister encounter with an abortion supporter. According to Kristan Hawkins, the group’s president, members of the Students for Life chapter at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Washington, were gathered to pray peacefully outside of a Planned Parenthood clinic when they were antagonized by pro-abortion advocates.
