The owner of Vince Young Steakhouse says homelessness in Austin is reaching a boiling point... The first real major incident that I had was I had my head split open,” Brown said in an interview. “We had a guy, he was knocking over tables on our patio.” When he called 911, he said the man believed to be homeless hit him in the head. He needed 13 stitches. Then about six months ago, he found a man relieving himself in the parking lot. When Brown asked him to leave, Brown said the man responded, “This is Austin. We can do...

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Rhonda Foxx, a candidate running for North Carolina's 6th District race, said she went to jail for a crime she did not commit. Now, Foxx is using that arrest as part of her campaign to win the Democratic primary on March 3. In a social media post, Foxx claimed she was the victim in the case, but the police narrative tells a different story. Foxx, who is one of five Democratic candidates in the race, posted her version of what happened. She said a neighbor at a Washington, D.C., apartment building assaulted her in September 2018, but...

A North Carolina appeals court on Tuesday blocked the state’s voter identification law from going into effect, finding it was a discriminatory attempt to suppress the black vote, in a victory for Democrats and voting rights advocates. The appeals court reversed a lower court decision that denied a preliminary injunction against a law requiring voters to produce a photo ID at the polls. The ruling puts the voter ID law on hold until the underlying lawsuit challenging it is decided, likely blocking it for the November 2020 general election. The law did include a provision allowing people without proper ID...

News that a male athlete was beaten by a girl would be a lighthearted human interest story in a sane world. Unfortunately, since falling down the rabbit hole of transgender theory, Chelsea Mitchell must now worry whether her victory on the track over a boy who identifies as female will jeopardize her court case. Mitchell is one of three Connecticut female athletes who are suing in federal court to bar boys who identify as females from competing in girls sports. On Friday, Canton High's Mitchell beat her transgender opponent, Terry Miller of Bloomfield High, by .02 seconds to win the...

If you were wondering how Nancy Pelosi has been handling the events of the past few months, it's safe to say she's not taking it well. She's been keeping a low profile after making a spectacle of herself at the 2020 State of the Union address, but over the weekend she gave an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour that must be seen to be believed. If reality won't do what Nancy wants, she'll just deny it's happening to her. ~snip~ Amanpour: What about, though, the fact that the president seems liberated? And this is about Democratic politics, so I'm not...

Mitt Romney’s vote to convict President Donald Trump in the impeachment trial, including a resolution calling for his resignation. According to local Salt Lake City news outlet 2KUTV, “the Utah Republican Party has pending resolutions on Romney: one that expresses support for Trump’s acquittal, another that supports legislation to recall a U.S Senator and a third that calls for Romney to ‘immediately resign’ from office.” The Utah GOP will possibly vote on these resolutions on Saturday, February 29, the report also states. It is unclear what kind of support...

President Donald Trump is expected to commute the sentence of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, multiple senior level sources tell ABC News. Among the causes that lead to Blagojevich's original conviction was the charge that he sought to exchange an appointment to former President Barack Obama's vacated U.S. Senate seat in exchange for campaign money. Blagojevich, a Democrat, has been a resident of the Federal Correctional Institution, in Englewood -- near Littleton, Colorado -- since March 15, 2012, where he is known as Inmate No. 40892-424.

The feast day of Saint Flavian, martyr, falls on February 18. Flavian was archbishop of Constantinople from AD 446 through 449. Though he lived long after the traditional age of Christian martyrs, Flavian is nonetheless accounted one of their number, though he was slain by men calling themselves Christians--indeed, he died either during or in the immediate aftermath of a Church Council. The deposition of Saint Flavian from Shea's The Pictorial Life of the Saints. As one of the principle parties at the so-called Robber Council of Ephesus, Flavian found himself on the wrong side of the powerful Patriarch of...

BISHKEK—A Chinese company has pulled out of a $280 million project to build a logistics center in Kyrgyzstan after protests by hundreds of locals in a fresh display of anti-Beijing sentiment in Central Asia. The deal signed during Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit to the former Soviet republic last year envisaged construction of warehouses, transport terminals, hotels and other facilities in a free-trade zone near Kyrgyzstan’s border with China. However, hundreds of locals saw it as a land grab by Kyrgyzstan’s giant neighbor and held a series of protests demanding that the project be canceled. The joint venture set up...

Remember after the 2000 election? Democrats were baffled that the voters hadn’t given Al Gore a third Clinton term in the midst of a good economy. Never mind that President Bill Clinton never won a majority of the vote and had been impeached for covering up his defiling of a young intern in the Oval Office. To the credit of those old Democrats, at least they were slightly capable of self-awareness. This crowd today would march right down the throat of a flaming volcano if somebody told them that doing so would hurt President Trump. Perhaps that should have been...

BEIJING—China will grant exemptions on retaliatory duties imposed against 696 U.S. goods, the most substantial tariff relief to be offered so far, as Beijing seeks to fulfill commitments made in its interim trade deal with the United States. The announcement on Feb. 18 comes after the Phase 1 trade deal between the two countries took effect on Feb. 14 and is the third round of tariff exemptions China has offered on U.S. goods. China has committed to boosting its purchases of goods and services from the United States by $200 billion over two years as part of the agreement, and...

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough on Tuesday credited former President Obama for the current strength of the economy, arguing that "Barack Obama’s economy was much stronger than Donald Trump’s economy." The opinion from the former GOP congressman and co-host of "Morning Joe" comes as both Obama and Trump have taken credit for an economy that includes the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years, rising wages and a soaring stock market. “Eleven years later, the unemployment rate is down, the stock market is up and President Trump is raging on Twitter. He's not happy,” co-host Mika Brzezinski said, referring to the 11 years...

Rosario Dawson has come out in a candid interview in which she discussed her relationship with Cory Booker. In 2018, Dawson shared a post on Instagram in celebration of Pride month, which many at the time took to mean she was coming out herself. During a conversation with Bustle, however, she clarified that it wasn't her intention to do so in the post — though she is now officially coming out. "People kept saying that I [came out]... I didn’t do that," she said. "I mean, it’s not inaccurate, but I never did come out come out. I mean, I...

As the 2020 campaign season heats up, the candidates are staking out their respective positions along the political continuum, looking to occupy precisely the right slot, the one that will appeal to a winning swath of voters come November. President Trump has chosen his position: He’s taking the “Make actual day-to-day life better for people by strengthening the job market, reducing taxes, making energy more plentiful and affordable, reducing the negative economic impact and civil disruption caused by rampant illegal immigration, improving our national security by rebuilding our military and enhancing the country’s balance-of-trade situation by renegotiating failed agreements such...

He was a performer on the M/S Westerdam when their two-week cruise turned into quite the saga after a former passenger tested positive for the virus... It was supposed to be the best state government money could buy, bought and paid for by Mike Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety for the purpose of overturning the Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms in Patrick Henry’s Virginia. Bloomberg overwhelmed the NRA in spending during the Virginia state election campaign. As CNBC reported last November: A gun-control lobbying group funded largely by billionaire Michael Bloomberg just helped Democrats take over the state government in Virginia -- right in the National Rifle Association’s backyard. In Tuesday’s elections, the Democrats tipped the Virginia House and Senate in their favor,...

DeBartolo, 73, gave up control of the 49ers in 2000 over his involvement in a gambling fraud case with former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards. Rice, who won three Super Bowls with the 49ers, told reporters at the White House that “I take my hat off to Donald Trump for what he did.”

Moscow (AFP) - Gripping a scalpel, Vladislav Zaitsev makes an incision in the fold of skin between his client's thumb and index finger and pushes in a small glass cylinder. Alexei Rautkin, a 24-year-old programmer in a hoodie, is having a chip inserted in his hand so he can open the door to his office without swiping a card. "It's something I decided a long time ago," he says. "Mainly because it's convenient but there's also a kind of exclusivity, because practically no one else has this." Rautkin and Zaitsev are among a growing number of Russians interested in biohacking,...
