In 1987, McDonald’s launched an ingenious sweepstakes based on the game of Monopoly. Customers would purchase sandwiches, fries, drinks, etc., that included peel-off game pieces on the packaging — potentially rewarding them with anything from a Filet-O-Fish to a new car to $1 million. People went wild for it and business spiked by 40 percent for the fast-food giant, which kept it up for years. But it wasn’t all happy meals. “It seemed like an opportunity for ordinary people to get ahead, but there were consequences,” said Brian Lazarte, co-director of the HBO docu-series “McMillion$,” premiering Monday, about the contest. In fact,...

President Trump wasn’t called a racist until he ran against Hillary. That’s how liberals operate. Play the race card every time. They’ve done it for decades. Fortunately, minorities aren’t falling for it as much as they used to. The black people no longer think they are victims – but free men – to do and achieve as they can. Just like all should be able to do. In November, two polls found that President Trump’s approval rating among black likely voters had reached 34%. An Emerson poll found that Trump has a 34.5% approval rating among black likely voters and...

Marine Le Pen, the president of the French populist right-wing party Rassemblement National (National Rally), congratulated the United Kingdom for regaining its “freedom” but went on to say that Brexit was a “terrifying failure” for the European Union. “After multiple twist and turns, the UK has finally regained its freedom. But this is a terrifying failure for the EU”, said Ms Le Pen. “We will no doubt see, over the coming months and years, that the UK did the right thing and will probably benefit a great deal. In fact, I have already noticed that the disaster-mongering has already given...

NBC’s Savannah Guthrie pressed former Vice President Joe Biden during an interview that aired Monday morning on the subject of his son Hunter’s work in Ukraine for Burisma Holdings. When first asked about Hunter’s work in Ukraine, Biden responded that “no one found anything wrong with his dealings with Ukraine, except they say it sets a bad image.” He additionally agreed that it “sets a bad image” when asked about it by Guthrie a second time, noting that even Hunter himself “said that.” However, the former vice president bristled when Guthrie suggested that Hunter was given the position in exchange...

NBC News Capitol Hill Correspondent Kasie Hunt lost her Delta elite status, and it’s Donald Trump’s fault. [Twitter Image] Regular readers know (and sometimes complain) that I blame President Trump for many things. However if you’re dating problems with SkyMiles, the program really started going down hill in the waning months of Bill Clinton’s second term. And someone should teach Ms. Hunt the trick of just dialing Delta Singapore reservations (+65-6336-3371) to avoid long hold times, 24 hours a day call center in English.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Democratic campaign that has cost more than $1 billion, dashed the ambitions of veteran politicians, forced conversations about race, gender and identity and prompted fierce debate over health care and taxes crests Monday in the Iowa caucuses. By day’s end, tens of thousands of Democrats will have participated in the famed Iowa caucuses, the premiere of more than 50 contests that will unfold over the next five months. The caucuses will render the first verdict on who among dozens of candidates is best positioned to take on President Donald Trump, whom Democratic voters are desperate...

The treasure hunt threatens to cause landslides. Excavations by treasure hunters searching for a hoard of gold in the Philippines, said to have been hidden by a Japanese World War II general, are threatening to cause landslides in a remote village. The search for fabled buried treasure is inspired by centuries-old Filipino folktales, according to an anthropologist. The treasure seems to be just that — a fable — as historians say it probably doesn't even exist. "People [are] spending a lot of money and a lot of time and effort looking for stuff that is probably not there," said Piers...

Mike Bloomberg is running two misleading gun control ads during the Super Bowl. One ad focuses on the 2007 Trolley Square Mall shooting in Salt Lake City, Utah where five people were killed. The other ad greatly misstates the number of children killed by firearms each year, while also overlooking the true cause of these deaths. Each 60 second ad apparently costs about $10 million. But that's only a fraction of the $248 million that the ten-week-old campaign has spent on campaign ads.In one ad, Kait Hinckley talks about how the Trolley Square shooter killed her 15-year-old sister and permanently...

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced on Saturday that he has decided to severe all relations with Israel and the US in protest against President Donald Trump’s recently unveiled plan for Mideast peace. “We have informed the Israelis and Americans of this decision through two letters,” Abbas said in a speech at an emergency meeting of Arab League foreign ministers in Cairo.

Boris Johnson today slammed 'mumbo-jumbo' fears about US food standards and NHS interference - as he insisted Britain will be the superhero of free trade. The PM shrugged off 'hysteria' over issues like chlorinated chicken, joking that he thought Americans looked 'pretty well nourished'. He said Britain's approach would be based on 'science', although he stressed that other countries will have to accept that the UK will not slash standards or compromise animal welfare. The comments came as Mr Johnson delivered a keynote speech pledging to make the country a beacon for free trade now it has left the EU.

This block prevents any discussion, has already prepared the outcome, and will present predetermined results to the Synod for approval. The outcome of the Synod is already established The results of the synod...

Have you heard of the "Burp Gun"?, no not the Grease gun. This Russian gun is rich with history. The sub-machinegun was used as a close-quarter gun during WWII by the Russians against the Germans. The Russian PPSh-41 was known to many as the "Burp Gun" due to the sound it made when fired. With an incredibly high cycling rate of around 1,000 rounds per minute, this submachine gun is incredible. The PPSH can fire from a stick magazine that holds 35 rounds or a drum magazine that holds 71 rounds. The light, recoiling cartridge allows for very controllable firing...

I was head coach of a local swim team and was working with a 12-year-old girl who had enormous talent, beautiful technique and a gift for moving effortlessly through the water. I was pushing her hard . . . [but] Nothing would make her really try. So I called my friend Larry Liebowitz, a wonderful coach I knew . . . “Dan,” he said, “you want this more than she does.” I frowned, and realized he was right. Then he added the kicker: “You’ve got to realize, there’s nothing morally wrong with not wanting to swim.” . . . I...

Here's hoping 2020 is the best year yet!! President Trump should take the win in the Senate trial without dragging it out, then concentrate on winning the 2020 election with wide coattails, then bide his time as the cases against the various coup plotters wind their way through the justice system. Win the election, hold the senate, take back the house!! And then continue the work of making America great again: Build the wall, enforce the law, deport them all!! End DACA!! End sanctuary cities!! End anchor babies!! Continue cutting regulations, cutting government, cutting spending and cutting taxes!! Continue negotiating...

If you watched the Super Bowl for the commercials you wasted 4 hours of your life. Unless you’re a Millennial as that’s who they were made for and - I’d speculate – by. Since advertising, like bond trading, is notorious for being a young man’s (generic usage, no complaints please) game I think it’s safe to assume that most of yesterday’s ads were conceptualized and written by members of the millennial demographic. And if they are our future, gird your loins for a tedious ride. The $5.6 million for a 30 second spots were mediocre at best and dreadful at...

At a time when only 41 percent of college students graduate in four years—and only 56 percent in five years—colleges and universities across the country are phasing out the only truly objective measure of academic excellence and student success in the application process: standardized tests. Next month, for example, the University of North Carolina Board of Governors (BOG) is set to vote on a policy that would significantly diminish the role of test scores in the admissions process. To do so, however, would be a blow against academic standards for the 16 UNC schools. Currently, in order to even be...

With the Super Bowl comes a slew of commercials vying for viewers' attention. During advertising's biggest night, companies and organizations forked over up to $5.6 million for 30 seconds — with nearly 100 million people tuning into the big game. This year, Hyundai and Jeep made the "best of" list with their whimsical humor by poking fun at Boston accents and reuniting the “Groundhog Day” cast, Punxsutawney Phil included. Google struck heartstrings with a quiet message about aging and remembrance. Cheetos and Doritos both played off exaggerated dancing to good effect. Meanwhile, Pop-Tarts and a Hard Rock action-movie commercial failed...

Tomorrow night, President Donald Trump is set to give his final State of the Union address to the very Congress in the midst of impeaching him. Why? We were told by Democrats far and wide that Donald Trump was a threat to the republic and that he needed to be removed ASAP. In early December, Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke very publicly of the dark threat sitting in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. “The president’s actions have seriously violated the Constitution,” she somberly stated in an address at the Capitol.

I was part of a Democratic administration that failed to fix a rigged system – I know our current president is a symptom of our disunion, not its only cause [snip] Although Clinton and Obama faced increasingly hostile Republican congresses, they could have rallied the working class and built a coalition to grab back power from the emerging oligarchy. Yet they chose not to. Why? My answer is not just hypothetical, because I directly witnessed much of it: it was because Clinton, Obama and many congressional Democrats sought the votes of the “suburban swing voter” – so-called “soccer moms” in...
