Why Democrats share the blame for the rise of Donald Trump
The Guardian ^ | Feb 2, 2020 | Robert Reich

I was part of a Democratic administration that failed to fix a rigged system – I know our current president is a symptom of our disunion, not its only cause

[snip]

Although Clinton and Obama faced increasingly hostile Republican congresses, they could have rallied the working class and built a coalition to grab back power from the emerging oligarchy. Yet they chose not to. Why?

My answer is not just hypothetical, because I directly witnessed much of it: it was because Clinton, Obama and many congressional Democrats sought the votes of the “suburban swing voter” – so-called “soccer moms” in the 1990s and affluent politically independent professionals in the 2000s – who supposedly determine electoral outcomes, and turned their backs on the working class. They also drank from the same campaign funding trough as the Republicans – big corporations, Wall Street and the very wealthy.

A direct line connects the four-decade stagnation of wages with the bailout of Wall Street, the rise of the Tea Party (and, briefly, Occupy), and the successes of Sanders and Trump in 2016. As Eduardo Porter of the New York Times notes, since 2000 Republican presidential candidates have steadily gained strength in America’s poorer counties while Democrats have lost ground. In 2016, Trump won 58% of the vote in the counties with the poorest 10% of the population. His share was 31% in the richest.

Reich is leftist partisan nut, and the rest of this article is full on BS about Trump being racist and etc.

HOWEVER: it's worth noting that he has realized from the left what Trump figured out a long time ago. All the political consultants told every candidate that the support of 45% of the population was a given, and the way to win is to pick up slightly more than half of the remaining 10% by not rocking the boat.

That's the point Romney was mangling when he said that 45% of the people are on government assistance. I actually heard Romney deliver the same point at a fundraiser a few months before, where he didn't mangle it, but he was explaining his strategy and why the most important thing is to appeal to suburban soccer moms.

Trump was the first one to make a real play for some of the other team's 45% that they took for granted. It took his unique combination of business acumen and political insight to adopt such a strategy in the face of all the experts.

Democrats wanted Trump to be the candidate and thought he had no chance to actually win.

Dear Ignorant Political Bigots in the Democrat Fascist Party

The same voters who elected Barack Obama twice did not magically turn racists when they voted to elect Donald Trump

That this lie is still being repeated by the mindless scum in the Fake News is utterly despicable human scum behavior.

This is an excellent rundown of Trump comments and interviews from the last several decades. He’s been on this path a long time without even knowing it:

It’s from summer of 2016.

Just contemplating our presidential elections being decided by soccer moms makes me very sad.

Cause they're all on the take from Wall Street and the Chamber of Commerce, Little Bobby. Don't believe me? Take a gander at the Clinton's bank balance.

What Robert Reichhhhhhhhh doesn’t seem to realize is that Suburban Soccer moms (and various grievance groups) ARE the Democrat Party today. Southern working class voters realized this 2 generations ago....and the Democrat reaction was the same - ie claiming they were all racists, stupid, backward, rednecks, blah blah blah.

What has happened now is that working class Midwesterners have finally realized it too. So now they’re racist, xenophobic, sexist, backward, stupid, blah blah blah. Hopefully the Democrats’ tactic of just spewing bile at them will work as well for them with Midwesterners as it did with Southerners.

Share the blame?

Hell, he ended up being our best if not our only hope to slow and/or reverse the tide as we march away from freedom and into Tyranny and citizen servitude at the aggressive urging of Democrats!!!

Excellent move on Bloombox’s part. Dust this guy off and put him in the limelight to make mini Mike look tall. Bloombox might name him his future Treasury Secretary and take him on the road as his right hand man.

“I was part of a Democratic administration that failed to fix a rigged system”

If you fixed a rigged system, the Democrats would probably never win another election.

Robert Reich, the malignant dwarf, who was extremely vocal in his opposition to any of the “0bama stimulus” money going to white men.

As I said above....as a Southerner I can tell you we’ve seen this all before. In the 1970s and 80s it was Southerners who realized the Democrats were no longer the working man’s party and the Democrats immediately started spitting hatred toward White Southerners ever since.

They will never change their Leftist trajectory. They will never take the hint when a formerly loyal voting block tries to tell them they’ve gone to far and need to move back toward the center. They will just have a giant temper tantrum and vent their hatred toward that formerly loyal Democrat voting block.

I just realized that “dwarf” spelled backwards is “frawd”.

Just one letter off. Reich’s angry fanaticism really adds up to no more than that.

“I was part of a Democratic administration that failed...”

..and never stops whiny about it.
Good luck “fixing” 2020.

Otherwise, it would be stupendous is Trump were to win the Popular vote..the left would have absolutely nothing.
Not that would cause any of them to re-assess their politics of self-destruction.
